Yes! That’s where I came to really really appreciate him!! It’s amazing! Gentlemanly, charm galore, classy and can sing at the drop of a hat like nobody’s business with no props!! ♥️🙌🏻👌🏻
Janis loved Tom Jones so much and the feeling was mutual. Tom Jones to this day mentions her when talking about powerhouse singers. This is why this is just fire!
I cherish everything Janis recorded, and listen to it again and again. Earlier, I enjoyed Tom Jones, This is the first time I heard this performance. God, what power these two generated, performing together!
Sir Tom as one of the greatest solo artists of all time had his own show and sang with the most famous singers of the day so there's a chance he's sang with a lot of your favourite singers. He was(and is) so versatile
Tom Jones was such a hottie in the day and Janis was always awesome. And now for the sad part about this video. I remember hearing Tom talk about doing this performance and he was saying how excited she was and told him how he could really sing and then he followed it with how he more or less thought she was just screaming rather than singing. It made me so sad that he couldn’t truly appreciate the gift she had. Not to say they were not having loads of fun, just that he never truly deep down appreciated her.
You guys are GREAT, we have so much FUN with YOU! Yes, music is bringing is all together, and it's truly marvelous! What's wonderful for all us BOOMERS is you are discovering the music we grew up with. We get to reminisce while you discover, and it all comes together with worldwide feelings of JOY! And I can assure you, I AM SMILING! Now, when you see & hear any, and I mean ANY, great musical artist from the 60s or 70s, let's be honest... KANYE WHO????
On the Tom Jones Show he had in the 60s/70s, he had on virtually EVERYONE who was anyone and sang with them, and much of it can be found on youtube. Duets with ....well.. look at the guests. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Is_Tom_Jones this particular show was 10 months before Janis's death.
Tom could do "black music" because people didnt understand a Welsh white man with a natural who sang soul and could dance. My mother like half the women in the USA would have hooked up with him in a hot second.
This is like you've gone to church, people!!! Raise your hands and get in the spirit! Tom is the man. The best of the best. Incomparable! Janis Joplin....DITTO! Together.....NO WORDS!
My aunties would come over every week to watch the Tom Jones show on our color tv. They adored Tom and I liked his show because he had some top notch guests and he sang with them. Lots of great performances and Tom proved week to week that it didn't matter what the genre was, he could kill it. Mad respect for him!!
I don't think you two know how much I love the two of you!! You're sooo cute, and being so young to appreciate music from my time ( and slightly before) warms my heart!
A bit late to the party but I love what this song did to you two. Pure joy to listen to and watch. Pure joy to watch and listen to you two watch and listen. I love your authenticity and that you’re experiencing this for the first time. My cheeks are sore too. Thank you.
Thit. Was. The. Best. Reaction. That. I've. EVER. SEEEEEENNNN!!! You both just made my night because you surprised me!! I've never seen this performance before and I'm so happyyyyy!!! I actually love you guys...thank you. Ugh...so good!!!
So glad you did this. I recommended this amongst other subscribers. Glad I did. Mind blowing song Tom is a soul and R&B singer up there with the best. He can break your heart as well. Two amazing artists
This performance is an example of how incredibly versatile Tom Jones is. Other examples are his duets with Stevie Wonder and Wilson Picket, and as of late, his duets with Jennifer Hudson.
He has said he has no fear of singing with other people. You can do that when you have the power of Tom's voice. Others shy away from the fear of appearing lacking alongside other singers. Tom also said he loves all genres of music, and that is one of the other reasons he has performed with so many other singers. Elvis considered Tom one of the best singers that he had come across. He would go nearly every night to Tom's shows when he was performing in Las Vegas.
This one. This one is like, TOP TIER of Janis singing live. And Tom Jones..... just so incredible. I'm not a religious woman, but this song is like church to me.
Thank God for RU-vid honestly how many people can honestly say after they've been dead for 50 plus years that people will still be celebrating their music not many
OMG! 😍😍your reactions are the best! I recommend you watch Tom with Stevie Wonder, that’s another great duet as well! He’s performed with so many legends. There’s one with him and Julie Andrews too which is pretty cool!
Tom Jones and Tina Turner were Janis's favorites, I read that in an interview of hers years ago. By the way, I watched this the night it first aired. I was a little hippy-dippy fourteen-year-old and a total Janis freak LOL. Great job as always. I shouldn't use the word job because your reactions are real
Just went to church ☮️🥰🔥🕺💃 Love TOM & JANIS together, the crazy energy is so special! Tom also did fantastic dancing & singing with TINA Turner on his show 🔥💎💋
Janis was a True Legend and a Pioneer of ALL Rockers, especially for Woman. Welcome to the days of pure talented music. Amber, you are ABSOLUTELY GLOWING !!! Love You Both . . . Love From New Jersey xxoxo
There's also another video on the tube with Tom singing with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (Don't know if you guys have reacted to CSNY but it is a great performance)
Unbelievable performance Tom with Cosby, Stills, Nash & Young singing... Long Time Gone ✌😎 Tom had CSNY smiling & laughing , they couldn't believe the notes he was hitting ! Pay attention to the first note & watch David Stills... 😆
YES! Played that song at my wedding (along with a zillion other people) For anyone who does not know it's a movie loosely based on Janice's life. Plus the song is just beautiful. Although I have seen one reaction to it (kind of looks like a Vegas stage show?) that wasn't the best video or sound of Bette. Not sure if there is an official or not?
About Tom Jones when you think of how many Legends he has sang with over the years what the heck does that make him a super legend? Or just a real legitimate legend the words used to offering sometimes that's why I had to put super in front of it for Tom, it's got to be close to a 50 or 100 Legends not just singers Legends he sang with
Janis appeared many times on the Dick Cavett Show and there are several RU-vid videos of those appearances. Dick Cavett was a popular talk show host in the 60’s and his affection for her seemed unlikely but he knew soul snd talent when he saw it. Hats off to him for these gems we can enjoy now. 🌺💐✌️
Try to find the clip where she's talking with Dick Cavett about going back to her high school reunion. Talk about the joy of anticipation! Janis in her beads and bangles was loving the thought!
One line from Janis to Dick Cavett that I always loved - "Yeah man, I could tell you were a swinger cuz of the shoes" and the camera pans to his very boring loafers. Then she went on to sing Move Over live in satin and purple boas.
@@guichogf5636 The other classic clip is when DC says to Janis: "I'm wearing my hip shirt." Janis looks at him for a minute and replies:" You are?" She was very down to earth and had a great laugh.
@@guichogf5636 Imagine if there had been a performance of Janis singing with Stevie Ray Vaughan. What wild fashion statements would have been seen in that performance...and the blues to match!
Janis was a massive fan of Otis Redding. Her version of "Hard To Handle" was epic. At the peak of her powers, she was unbeatable. Gone, never to be forgotten.
Go right now and watch the clips of Tom singing at 81 then, on The Voice UK, especially the song Its Not Unusual and I'll Never Fall In Love Again...HE'S STILL GOT IT!! We love your reactions!!🎶💜🎵
I love Janis, she was great and she always had fun and did everything her way, from the clothes she wore to the bottle of whiskey that was almost always in her hand...If you didn't like it get over it because she wasn't going to chance...
Since you both love Janis so much, you really must get a copy of the film "The Rose", starring Bette Midler. It's a biopic of Janis and it is amazing. (Her family hated parts of it so they had to change the names.) It's a great portrait not only of Janis but also of the music industry in the late 60's when it's set. It was Bette's film debut and she hit the screen like a grenade, capturing Janis's intensity, pain, and problematic nature as well as her ecstasy onstage and her crazy, fun-loving side. It's a must for anyone getting into the rock world! :)
Rob and Amber Would you react to TOM JONES SONG SHES A LADY FROM 1971, This song you will thank me for big time,,,, Tom was a huge STAR in the 70s BABY
Tom Jones never lost that energy! Check out his cover of Prince's song "Kiss". Also, Janis Joplin "Me and Bobby McGee". Bette Milder played Janis in the movie The Rose. Which is also the name of the theme song.
They treated her like absolute garbage in TX. Practicly ran her out of town and the college she went to voted her "Ugliest Man on Campus". TX didn't and doesnt deserve her.
There is video on RU-vid of her when she returned to her hometown for a class reunion after she became famous. The obvious pain she felt being back there was palpable. I understand her parents didn't exactly welcome her home.
@@adampardoen6541 Don't blame all of Texas for some cruel college kids who instigated the diss and the mindless sheep who went along with it. Texas is mighty proud of her native sons and daughters who struggled but followed their muse and gave their talents to the world.
You would really love hearing the Hollies "The Air that I Breathe" and "He ain't Heavy he's my Brother" live versions...they were an Awesome 60's band...
Janis made a number of appearances on "The Dick Cavett Show", a popular 60's talk show. On one of those appearances she sang an old Bee Gees song, one of my favorites, "To Love Somebody". Take a look at that video on RU-vid. She put her own spin on that song.
I've heard that the Bee Gees said this was their favorite cover of this song...have you seen her do Work Me Lord live in Stockholm 1969? If not check it out, amazing!!!
i remember when this was live on the Tom Jones show my mom loved him and Janis too like we all did . when they did this duet my whole family was up and dancing , jumping up and down in the living room except for my dad who just sat drinking his beer laughing and enjoying the whole scene .those were great times a very special time, i really miss those days...
his show was a lot of fun, he sang with so many people, this duet was my favorite. He sang a duet with Ella Fitzgerald one of the greatest blues/jazz singers. The duet is with her when she was older and she had diabetic issues which is probably why they are sitting. I was so fortunate to see her 2 years before she passed. She still could sing.
Plz......check out “Little Girl Blue” Janis Joplin puts every emotion she has in this song and Amber I think you will love it. Shoot their wasn’t a girl alive that didn’t want to be in the front row when he sang!! You’re so correct Amber it was always great to see her smile.
Monica, I agree. It will pull every emotion you have out, and it’s so beautifully done it spell binding. On one side though isn’t that what Janis did every time she sang?
I just wrote that. It's the title of her documentary "Little Girl Blue" which received rave reviews. Amy Berg, the director, was allowed to look at all Janis' letters, yearbooks, newspaper clippings, ticket stubs EVERYTHING Janis left behind. This is not a song to be sung by a man at all. It is to be sung by a woman called Janis Joplin. It's all the hurt and pain she went through in Port Arthur, Texas. All the rejection by those in her school and gossip. Janis considered herself to be extremely ugly with pock-marked acne skin. Teased by her looks, clothes and hair she could hardly wait to get out of the city. This is a blues song that screams *HURT* ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kabRx5uW8PM.html
Tom Jones had his own variety TV show for 3 seasons from 1969-71, and often had two or three musicians or groups every week. There must be lots of videos with him singing with them.
Love 70s songs speaking of '70s songs could you guys please react to Edgar and Johnny Winters version of tobacco road live from 1970 it's got everything you like in it solo's grit growls Edgar even threw some scat in there
My mom had a huge crush on Tom Jones. In our house in the mid to late 60's the "She's a lady" album was played for most of my childhood. Fast forward to the mid 2000's and I'm playing a game at Cache Creek Casino in California and he walks by. Wish my mom could have been there.
I can't tell you how many of your videos I've been watched today that was supposed to say binge watched and I am not ashamed to say I love your reactions to the one and only Janice Joplin and Tom Jones is off the charts too
You hit the nail on the head. I grew up with the music of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. That was real music that nothing currently matches. It was the best time in history for Music and you still have so much to experience. I wish you younger people could truly know what it was like back then. Good job guys.
and not just the vocals but the dancing is off the hook....tom jones could always move but good god janis has so much soul in her movements...and how about those backup dancers!
I recommend One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer by George Thorogood. It's unlike anything you've listened to on the channel, but it has strong Stevie Ray Vaughan and Chuck Berry vibes.
this is what Tom Jones is all about. While his popularity is with pop songs, you can find plenty of videos/recordings where he sings rock/blues/soul music.
