I Captured Every Color Combination in 1 Ball of Handspun Yarn with this Weaving Technique! 🌈

With a handspun rainbow yarn, I'm weaving a full rainbow gradient shawl on my tri-loom. This was such a fun project! I'll take a break in the middle to rest my arms so I'll give you a peak at how my flax beds are growing. And as a fun bonus, watch to the end to find out about the day in the life of a Rainbow Yarn Influencer! Now that I've done continuous strand weaving with a rainbow, should I try a fractal spin next? What colors would you experiment with?

It's so refreshing and inspiring to see someone whose crafting isn't 90% swearing followed by hating the end result. Like. I am aware that often being cheerful and enthusiastic (or at least showing it) is a choice, and not always an easy one, so it's great to have your example.
@JillianEve
@JillianEve 16 дней назад
I'm a terrible actor and worse liar so if I look like I'm having tons of fun, I promise it's genuine. That said, I don't like to be too hard on my outcomes. Even if it's not as I expected or hoped for, I don't want anyone who is thinking of trying a new craft for the first time, who maybe came to one of my videos to learn, to get discouraged. When anyone sees someone with more experience trashing a project that a beginner would be thrilled to achieve, that's not going to encourage anyone. It's even worse when you consider that many of us are fighting the urge to be perfect on the first try (unrealistic for any skilled craft). I think we can all find something good in our work even if it's just lessons learned for the next crafty attempts.
@RandomAFP
@RandomAFP 16 дней назад
@@JillianEve I internalised in my teens that nothing I ever did was good enough, that being satisfied with anything was arrogance and/or indicated that you weren't trying hard enough, so I ended up only being able to see the flaws in my work and feeling like if I didn't exhaust myself on striving for perfection I might as well not have bothered at all. I'm unlearning that now, but it's not easy.
@JillianEve
@JillianEve 15 дней назад
@@RandomAFP I came from a very similar place to what you are describing. It's not easy to undo those messages. I worked on my perfectionism by realizing that having pride in my work isn't conceit or arrogance. It's an act of self-respect and healthy confidence to take pride in my work!🫂
@RandomAFP
@RandomAFP 15 дней назад
@@JillianEveExactly! It got easier when I noticed that the people who were loudest with those sorts of ideas were the ones who didn't do anything much, and then realised it was because they couldn't! First step on getting good at anything is sucking at it, and that's not bad! It's only by messing up that you really learn anything.
@chesneymigl4538
@chesneymigl4538 9 дней назад
My goodness, who are you watching that they are having such a bad time? Crafting is supposed to be fun, even when you don't like the end result. It's the process. I just finished a shawl that I didn't like, so I sewed it together and made a pillow.

I love June, the number of rainbow projects just skyrockets! The yarn works so well for a multi-gradient (double rainbow what does it meaaaaaan) and it looks fantastic as a triangle shawl. I thought it was funny that you were weaving in the rain for a bit because obviously that's how you get the most authentic rainbows!

A lovely, fascinating and wonderful way to use the gradient; both the process and the result. The finishing process in particular made me smile. I had been wondering how it would be done, and watching each loop being hooked over the one next to it was very satisfying in a “d’oh, of course” kind of way (not being a weaver myself, it was obvious as soon as I saw it). Thank you for another truly interesting and inspirational video.

Very nice! BTW, I made a queen sized blanket out of yarn instead of loopydoops several years ago. It can be done. Noreen Crone Findlay has a couple videos about how to do it. Our weaving guild had a talk by the owner of Harrisville Designs and he did say that they were considering making wool loops. Who knows if it will ever actually happen but it would be nice if they did, not only because of the melted nylon thing. I'd rather use those instead of yarn since it would be a lot quicker and easier.
