LONGER BIO
Saxophonist Bob Reynolds is an in-demand jazz performer, educator, and sideman, as well as a Grammy Award-winning member band Snarky Puppy. Born in Morristown, New Jersey in 1977, Reynolds grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, where he first started playing saxophone at age 13. Although he listened to a range of music as a kid, by his late teens he was a dedicated jazz student. After high school he honed his skills at Boston's Berklee College of Music, where he mentored with George Garzone, Hal Crook, and others. As a leader, he debuted with 2000's The Bob Reynolds Quartet, followed by 2006's Can't Wait for Perfect. That same year, he joined fellow Berklee alum John Mayer's band and spent the next five years with the pop star, touring and appearing on such albums as 2008's Where the Light Is and 2009's Battle Studies.
In 2013, he returned to his solo work with Somewhere in Between, which reached number one on digital jazz charts. He then made his Snarky Puppy debut appearing on the genre-bending group's 2014 effort, We Like It Here. Two years later he was back with Snarky Puppy for the Grammy Award-winning Culcha Vulcha. In 2017, Reynolds delivered the EP Guitar Band, which featured appearances from Kneebody bassist Kaveh Rastegar as well as fellow Snarky Puppy members Robert "Sput" Searight (drums) and Mark Lettieri (guitar). In 2018 he began touring with 4-time Grammy-winning guitar legend Larry Carlton. He also released the albums Hindsight and Quartet which both landed in the top 10 of Billboard's Jazz charts. A passionate educator, he cofounded an annual summer retreat for adult saxophonists called the Inside:Outside Retreat and he's coached thousands of musicians through his Virtual Studio, a ground-breaking web-based teaching platform he built and has operated since 2010.

Bob - that was magnificent. I’ve discovered that my favorite musicians are all amazing composers. Their ability to write memorable music also comes out when they improvise. Wayne Shorter, Jaco, Terence Blanchard to name a few. Count yourself in that number. Beautiful job.

Bob, I can't get enough of this piece: melody is somewhat haunting (to me), smooth and enticing; arrangements are excellent. In my opinion, the mood of the piece parallels your (video) personality: calm, cool, polite, smooth, accessible, honest and musically industrious - you, Bob. I do look forward to seeing and hearing many more in the not-too-distant future. Thumbs up to the video Guy/Gal. Thanks, Bob.

thank you 🙏🏻 (I'm the video guy for the overall video, but the tenor player, Joe Scheller, did all the video editing for the quartet performance).

Love this Bob. It's got so many dimensions. It has kind of a festive feel but then also jazzy / contemporary vibes. It even reminded me of some World Saxophone Quarted stuff I used to listen to as a kid. Definitely could use more of this type of thing in my city. Thanks for the share!

Woah, this is sooooo good. Agreeing with Emmanuel, those harmonies are superb and make me smile deep, deep smiles of joy. The whole piece really cries out how important it is to stretch out and step into new territory, feel the fear and do it anyway and look at the triumph you've achieved here. Thanks Bob.

This is why I love the Sound of the Saxophone. Very impressed. I listen to a few groups like this and their technical ability really shine when a strong composition is presented as the music shows with this group. Thanks for the downloads. Congrats

Beautiful work, Bob! Thanks for sharing. Sometimes it's very enriching to realize the need to stop and resume, pause and reset in a certain way, whether in a matter of ideas or action to carry out. And this is closely related to the challenges we set ourselves, for example. And great editing video work! Looks simple, but there are so many details regarding the position that each saxophone assumes in each part, like in in the adding phrases for example in 8:30

Feels like it’s not enough to push the like; I have to SAY I really like this composition. One of the things I like: there’s a lot going on, but all of it hangs together and feels necessary and serves the same story. Really very nice.

Very compelling music, Bob. Congratulations to you, and to the quartet! Lovely melodies and harmonies, sort of hard to put the right words to describe, at least for me. At times, I can "hear" your playing, but at other times it sounds like early 20th century classical music - really nice. Really super work.

@Bob Reynolds You played “THE LICK” right at the tail end of the playing clip at :25 ! So good to hear that it’s still alive and well ;^) ….and ‘Payin’ Dues’ is a good one - also good to know IT’S alive and well. A favorite sax ensemble - check out Lenny Pickett’s Borneo Horns! And last , but not least - great job on the 4tet ! Lots of texture and interplay!
