Can a human being exist in today's world without a drivers license, social security card, or bank account and yet be a valuable part of society? I'm out to prove that you can.

You're a brave man and I LOVE IT! But this video needs a follow up video. You should do a Q&A. People are going to have lots of questions. If people choose to follow your lead someday, they should know how. Do you have a Passport? Will you keep it? Are moving completely out of society? etc. So many questions...

I love how you are testing the boundaries and you are still here. :) If, heaven forbid, you ever did have something happen that required a SS card, you could always get another one. There is undoubtedly a birth certificate for you somewhere.

Congrats on your separation from the corporations! The social and the drivers license will still be valid you can do a recision of contract from them to be destroyed systematically. We still reap the benefits of using social security by checking off U.S Citizen and identifying as one. Great video I hope more people realize the power in what you just did and feel inspired enough to do the same. Go green and be free!

I just bought a 2017 Dodge Challenger RT with a 392 Hemi engine on credit, and now I'm out celebrating with a great meal and some drinks at a nice restaurant paying for it with my debit card. We're like opposite of each other. I like having stuff. I'll probably die before this car is payed off. Lol! I really don't care though. Good luck man. If I see ya hitch hiking, I'll give ya a ride.

Congrats. I never had drivers license myself. I don't like driving, mountain biking around is a tresure just like for you Rob. Can you post more biking videos, I really like them. It's freeing to bike around, no payments, no licenses, nothing. I don't even use public transporation much anymore because you can bike around, even long distances. People feel we are crazy to do so, but they don't really know what freedom is :)

I for one applaud you and admire your bravery. I think of the possibility of doing the same as you and I get anxiety. And the fact that I get anxiety is a sign that the evilness of this world has a hold on me. When we get comfortable that's a sign of being in a lifeless and doomed world. I hope and ask for strength so I may follow in some form your steps of returning to living simply and naturaly, the way all humanity should be....ignore some of these commenters rude remarks. Holy Cow that was a huge step to get rid of all that ID. You're a pioneer for sure. On the opposite end of the spectrum are people who just arrive as refugees and "need" to get the identification and begin to establish their credit rating to "exist". That's pretty amazing to think in reverse, which really is moving forward in a new direction, so just like pioneering. How will you manage with the technology ties though ?

The question "How will you manage with the technology ties" is extremely broad. Technology has enveloped so much of our lives. I'm still going to be using a computer and the internet. I still exist in the city so am surrounded by technology. I take public transport, catch rides with people, visit people in their homes. I have not ostracized myself from society. With that being said I own few electronics and use far fewer than most around me and will continue to do so.

They are much better for the environment than gas powered but I have no desire to own a car. Nor do I think individual car ownership, even electric, is truly sustainable. Rob Greenfield while the idea of public transportation is good and potentially the most efficient way to manage resources (for transport), the problem lies in the corporate machine to produce and maintain the transport system. It’s counter productive to being self reliant. As society evolves, we will eventually realize that the most waste occurs while facilitating personal freedoms and liberties. The only solution to that is to treat people as a commodity that needs to be efficiently managed to preserve dwindling natural resources. Food is essentially nothing but a collection of chemical compounds, they can easily be mass produced in automated factories. All forms of emotion are also chemically induced in the brain, instead of actually experiencing them, virtual reality can replace the need to go on vacation for example. Machines can learn behavior patterns to maximize human efficiency without allowing for excessive downtime. Even a hobby could provide value to the economy. All this sounds horrible, but...if humans ever live in space, that’s the only way to make it possible. In the meantime, I just want to be out in the woods

It was skeptical at first but now am super happy my Id and dl was mail to me after i order from them they do. I’ve done all of this and you do have inalienable rights to travel without a drivers license. We are all tired of being slaves to consumerism, but you should also look into the private side vs the public. Own nothing control everything.

Incorrect you do not have inalienable rights to drive a vehicle. Driving a car is a privilege, not a right. You need to pass a test much like other tests that require certifications that show you are skilled educated on the safety regulations of the road to operate a car.

I remember 60 yrs ago, no charge cards debit cards exist. All cash payment, gas only 55 cents/ gal., That is why I pay everything in cash, even my regular home and winter home in Florida,two cars, all cash. I am debt free, I can affort retired at 54.

There are many ways to live that don't involve the 21st century modern form of health care.

I don't have a driver's licence either. Never liked internal combustion vehicles which cause too much air pollution. Not to mention that you have to pay mandatory "insurance" (in essence just another tax) on something you supposedly own. Toll roads...screw that!

Hi Rob - I'm relatively new ti your channel - so sorry if this is a overly repeated question. How are you going to provide numbers (ie soc sec numb) when it comes to employment - in the US do u need it for work the same way you need a Tax file number?

I have not had a typical job since I was 19 and I am 30 now. But I do still have a social security number, just not a card. Some places might require a card and that would mean I wouldn't be involved with them. I live a simple life and you can learn more about it on my website. I thought there was a logical reason for this video, but I guess the title summed it up. Cutting up you drivers license doesn’t mean it’s not in the system. Rescinding your drivers gets rid of it. Cutting up your social security card doesn’t get rid of your social security number. Using cash instead of credit is completely moronic when the purchasing power of cash is eaten up by inflation. This has to be the most unplanned out grab for attention I’ve seen.

This doesn't change anything other than not having forms of identification and so forth on you. They still exist elsewhere just wont be physically on you so this was pointless really. Sure the CC was okay, I never used them and if I can't pay for something in the long run then I don't bother so I can understand that and the checks. If you wanted to be healthier and exercise more then you could have done so without going through cutting up the license though. Hell I'm an average Joe but lately I find plenty of time to get exercise in, I work and am a single parent who has his son every other week but I find time. It's all about planning ahead which to me doesn't seem like you do very well. If the license for example was holding you back then I can see that being a reason otherwise to me it feels pointless, could've just left it at home and have the same result. One person changing won't make a difference to the world, your lifestyle yes but you alone wont make the world a better place unless others follow. I'm a pessimist so I'll say that, I'm also a hypocrite at times but hey if this makes you feel better then I respect your choices. I definitely don't agree with them in the end despite loving and wanting to take care of our planet but good luck!

You need your SSN to renew your US passport. You can cut up your card all you want, but you still need your number. It's assigned to you for life, it's yours only, and even if you don't use your number to work or collect benefits, it's still your number.

I admire minimalism...but you do still have a you tube account...so you must have a computer?...and a place to access it power? Wifi...? Where do you really draw the line...dont get me wrong.. I applaud you but at time of this video you were roughly 29 years of age....your needs may change as you get older I have processions home I built etc. Which is also my work shop...which earns me cash in my line of work...like to run lean existance...but that.line is different for all just subscribed will watch more your vids

Sorry man that is not the solution You need an ID.how do you plan to travel? Definitely you crossed a funny point. It is too much. Love your channel, but sometimes you cross the basic points called minimum to exist now in this world it is mandatory ID. How do you cross an security to travel? Please tell us?

Really inspiring, but aren't you afraid that without a phone you can't call 911 if you need to (if you get attacked, robbed, or need an ambulance). I have also quit using my phone for the past 2 years, but a lot of the times when I go hiking or camping I just wish I could call police if I needed to (I live in an area with a lot of robberies and such). How do you deal with this?

I have my passport still. You can see it in my possessions in the video. I still have a Social Security Number, just not a physical card.

@@sjh60633 That's slightly incorrect. He's directly helping the planet by giving back to it. Keeping the earth's biosphere healthy indirectly keeps us humans alive. Just because he's not making some big scientific discovery or joining politics doesn't mean that he's not contributing to the planet. He is just doing what living beings were meant to do; help Earth's life flourish.

I do not drive, I want to get a bicycle but am partially disabled. Any reccomendations on other means of traveling that do not require a license/id? Thank you, I adore your videos!

Hi Leah, Very nice to hear from you. What if you have a bicycle custom made for you that will work for you? Depending on the physical disability you are dealing with a recumbent bike may be a better fit for you. There's public transportation too. Sending lots of love to you!

your coverd with you passport for id... but getting a job you need a ss number..and they will take it(ss) from your pay!as a young healty person the skys the limit...but as you get older...you just may find that the sky is falling...there will be rainy days..protect yourself, and your loved ones..just a word from a 60s hippie living in pardise...smile

He doesn't work like most millennials. As a 60's hippie you understand that eventually your body will fail you and need certain things that your 20something body didn't. No worries though. All those documents are replaceable. I have 3 ssn cards in various locations in fact! And more people in the world live without drivers permits than those who do. And cash well.. That's the one thing here I can relate to. I've lived for 20 years of my adult life without a bank account. For years I worked odd jobs for older folk who had their own tools. They all knew to have cash on hand. Later when I worked for a construction outfit I'd just cash checks at the bosses bank. After a few months of that I could have left my ID at home since everyone knew me by name. Later yet I lived off recycling, but these days you cannot even turn in cans and bottles without having an ID [you don't need a drivers license] Can't travel the world without an ID and a passport. But look at all these kids worshiping the guy for being a bum. At this rate people will be building shrines around homeless sleeping on the streets.

That is what I told him in my post. Where I work. I meet people from all over the world. At all ages. Trust me managing as an old man. Even with help. He is going to have problems. He thinks happy-joy-joy crap about life. Event he best off human beings understand getting older means things get harder!

Social Security might not be a good thing to get rid of. If you need health care and/or become disabled. Don't have the same social group; it's good to have. The extra income that you pay into is your money.

Well I hope you can really make it but unfortunately whose property are you living on? if you get sick or seriously injured how are you going to get medical help? I understand about wanting to be free from the system but sadly that's not realistic. I'm a Veteran and proud of it. Freedom isn't Free!
