Your channel makes creating feel accessible. Having a colouring page as a base to build upon, and allow adding and taking away parts makes it so you can create with anything. This piece is inspirational to enjoy and get creative. Love the concept to use colouring pages in another way.

Totally worth it! Too often you find yourself saving materials and not using them, so it's always worth it to use stuff you haven't thought about in a while.

Amazing! I found myself going back & forth between “is this sacrilege?” and “that’s SO creative!” to “why is Spiderman the only human male” and “Im amazed that Sarah could find just the right posed characters to match the painting’s poses!” So while Im not sure about disneying up of a beloved subject, Im impressed with the creativity and effort put into it!

When I was a kid my mom made a huge number chart 1-100 with a mish mash of coloring pieces. We colored it together and I learned my numbers such a fond memory.

I’ve been using watercolour for years and I love it so much because I can go over the top with my prismacolour pencils.I think this is a great idea and now I want to try doing it!

Holy WOW! My adult children were obsessed with the EVERYTHING DISNEY PRINCESSES! You are so incredibly talented Sarah! I am creative in many other ways, but drawing and coloring with depth and layers are something I’m just dabbling in now! I absolutely loved this idea and the final piece. Add a medium to your acrylic that will allow for slow drying. It’s a game changer

The School of Athens painting by Raphael was the first thing that popped into my mind... would make an amazing detailed one!

This piece is remarkable! The way she goes through all her books looking for just the right figures and walks us through her process just blew me away.

I love oil paints because of the dry time and I can rework areas BUT I haven't oil painted in over 10 years. Right now I like gouache. It's a new medium for me and I find it's very versatile.

Wowza, that is so cool! Now it motivates me to do something with the pages I haven't colored. Like a huge mismash of stuff.

IDEA: Scan your coloring page, play with the line color to be lighter if you like, and finally print it on the best quality paper you can afford. If your paper doesn’t fit, just cut it to fit. If you can afford it, maybe get a FISKAR paper cutter (not too expensive).

I absolutely love this. It's like writing crossover fanfiction but in paint format.

You should try acrylics with an acrylic retardant! It slows down the drying and allows you rework. Basically it makes acrlyics act like oils, but they do dry a hell of a lot quicker (and you can add a new layer). It doesn't mean they take as long to dry but you can get a good amount of time from decent acrlyics.

I switched from acrylics to oils and man was it a game changer! Never looked back, oils are WAY more my speed.

Hullo Sarah, You created a lovely picture! I recreated famous paintings for my nephews birthday presents. I used Disney characters for the models and I used The Last Supper, Rembrandt’s Nightwatch and I avoided the pointillism of the Surat picnic, but used the layout! You can use a lot more characters in that painting. I hope you are happy with your conversions and I hope you continue to stretch your art muscles! You removed a few pages from coloring books, you did NOT ruin your books! I have used just about every painting medium. I love the fast drying of acrylics, yet that is a real disadvantage for blending like you can accomplish with oil’s! I have used watercolors and working on paper is so much easier than canvas! Now I have used oils on paper but it requires a definite set-up regimen, or oil paper purchases! I say use a medium that you are comfortable with or already have! I look forward to watching your next video project! See ya then!

When you said the idea I thought “if it’s not the last supper, then Seurat’s Sunday in the Park.” I ABSOLUTELY think you should do Sunday in the Park next but the challenge will be that most people are in profile, plus the size difference of all the people. How about Las Meninas?? Will not enough people know it?

Hey Sarah, I also have been annoyed by covering up my line art with opaque paints! my tip is to scan in your line art before you colour, then scan in the final piece and overlay the line-art on photoshop 😅 not perfect if you want to display or sell the original artwork but for creating prints and posting the digital scan it’s really cool

My daughter caught me watching this and I ended up watching it twice. Loved the final product, I would for sure frame it.

As a painter, I FULLY recommend trying oil paints again. I love the detail and the complex shading that I can get with my oils that I can’t get with acrylic paint; and for your painting style, oil paint would work amazingly for you. I would also recommend using new oils to learn with. I started with my great grandmother’s 30+ year old oils and it was…definitely challenging to learn to paint with very stiff paint lol

I just wanted to mention that if your acrylics are drying up to fast use a retarder, I have personally used Golden’s and Liquitex’s products and both are very good! You can also use a wet palette which is really nothing more than a large flat sponge and parchment paper set into a container (I used a Tupperware covered cookie sheet container) I have purchased a commercial wet palette and both work just fine!

It turns out really good, you often have such a process trying something new that you have that worried stage and everything turns out really good. Tricky with a new medium. I’ve barely used acrylic, it’s an interesting one for blending and layering but I like my watercolours. I recognised the paper, it’s good stuff.

I’ve done both acrylic and oil. There’s a place for both. Acrylic was a good choice for this. I do love my oils though and prefer them most of the time.
