My son races Champ karts and its the same deal. We have to travel 2 hrs. just to put him in a kart count of 7. We are hoping this wont be the case when we move him up to legends. Thanks for the videos BTW, been really helpful in helping us gage the next steps for my kiddo.
I’m sorry that this great racing in Michigan has gotten to this point, my son Ryan Meldrum raced from 2002 to 2006 in the Michigan Legends and we were fortunate to be getting 20 to 30 weekly, all members of the Michigan Legends. We had about a 10 track schedule yearly and a few many came from Ohio. Was the best times of our racing life Wish you the best AJ Bill
We actually ended up getting out of it at the end of last season. The only track they are running at currently is Whittemore speedway if you want to get in touch with those guys.
I race in Indianapolis, car count is 20+ every week. We travel around Indiana. Usually car count is 13-30. For those saying Fz's are dominanting. Idk. Depends on track. I have had 1200 and currently 1250 hang with the fzs all day and so far at 4 different tracks. Many 1250s winning, many 1250s top 5 top 10. With half the field being fzs half 12??'s Cars we buy second hand. Bought 5 cars this year within my team. Price from 4k to 9k. Take time to learn the cars and setting them up. This coming week is Anderson. I hear 30+ showing up. One issue i have seen in the legends community is the lack of people knowing and being hands on with working on their own cars and understanding what's doing what. I keep seeing people just have someone else setup a car. Driver shows up races and doesnt know whats going on.
You guys have a really good car count down there that’s for sure. The 1200/1250 is still a great motor it just doesn’t have the lifespan that the water cooled ones do. I wish we could make it down this weekend but we have a prior commitment we are going to with family.
I'm on the outside looking in and considering joining, but love the idea of an 8-10 race schedule. Maybe the guys running Formula Continentals in the Great Lakes Championship Series would have more perspective?
We currently race legends on dirt, we have a decent car count, can tell you the costs for these cars are getting costly…. We have folks interested in getting in them but the days of a 6-8k car is gone. And the FZ are dominating at the moment. The afco shocks are a joke the cost of the fz is still very pricey. Can’t get tires. Which turns a few folks away or hesitant to get involved . We are still on a FJ and can run with fz but it takes everything we got to do so. 16-23k for a fz car, you can get a competitive sport mod.
There are still plenty of deals out there for the 6-8k entry price. But you definitely have to search for them. I understand where you are coming from with the rising costs but in retrospect they are still a lot cheaper then bigger cars to run and maintain week to week.
I just picked up a 2015 INEX Legends. I am out here in CO, there are a lot that run at CNS; but to be honest I do not like where the community is at for circle track out here. Planning to convert the car into a fun track day car for RC and run in NASA down the line. Love your content, sorry to hear the community is dying. Certainly know its going down here in CO due to the FZ09 expense from drivers now.
Sorry to hear that. The motor issue isn’t really a thing in Michigan. A lot of guys are still on the 1200/1250 and really competitive. I really don’t know what the issue is.
@@AJBunch6 Agreed; though the Fz and Mt are expensive, Legend cars are still cheaper than most other true racecars...for RC and Oval. Got the car from CA and they were saying its falling off a bit out there because of the Hoosier tire shortage. Many hoard bought last year and now most places are requiring only 1 set of tires a season to reduce the problem. But again, its hard to beat race car expenses like the Legends car. The tires are a 1/4 of the price compared to slicks and the fall off on them is slow enough that they can last a season...cannot get much cheaper than that.
Honestly legends are a dying class in my opinion. High cost cars, low car count, can’t get tires, parts are hard to get if you do need them, not fun racing to watch and that’s coming from someone who has one. I’d love to see you move on to Another class. Legends aren’t fun to me anymore but I support you and your channel all day
I appreciate the support from you guys. They are a blast to race just wish we could run against bigger fields more then twice a year. Keep up the good work on your guys stuff! Looking forward to seeing that new purestock!
I’m seriously considering getting a car to race with you guys next year. Here’s my 2 cents for what it’s worth…keep in mind I have no legends knowledge prior to this year. First, tires. What’s the deal? Every one is on very old tires, and nobody seems to have answers. If I buy a used car, I’m lucky to get a set of someone’s old tires with no way to get new ones. Next is the shocks. What’s the deal there? The old shocks were working just fine, why switch to something much more expensive? Another one, that isn’t really important to most people, is that these things aren’t made for tall people. I’ve heard tons of people saying that they have no problem, but I can assure you, with a 36” inseam you are making a compromise to drive one of these things. All that being said, I am definitely in the market to buy one if the deal is right and I can find enough tires to be competitive and be able to tune stagger, I’m in for next year!
Please don’t take this as me bad mouthing anyone. Just some observations from a newbie. I am excited about finding a car and Brayden and I plan on racing a full Michigan schedule if we can pull it off. I just seem to remember from my racing days years ago, that none of this was a problem. A guy could break into the sport and as long as you could afford it, tires were everywhere and some tracks didn’t check tires, which allowed people to make old tires almost as fast an new tires
The tire issue isn’t just in legends. It’s all over the short track world. I don’t agree with how US Legends has gone about the rationing but there’s nothing I can really do about that, the shock deal with bilstein ended supposedly and I assume they got a better price with the afcos which is why they went that route, I think you will be fine with your height if you get a big boy car honestly. Talk with Monge. He might be selling one of his cars as a roller.
