Wikipedia states that he got most of his information from oral accounts and a handful of official American records that became declassified *after* he'd already written most of it. Besides that, it mostly discusses the tactical deceptions that both sides used to shield operations from their respective enemies. I haven't found much of anything on the 2nd volume, but if someone can help me find *that* book's sources, that would be greatly appreciated. ESPECIALLY where it got the apparent quote from General Patton himself.

The actual story behind this guy is even funnier. The homeowners association told him he couldn't fly his American flag because it was offensive so he decided to put up the Nazi flag. I think he's a WWII vet too. (Edit: I mixed this incident up with another one.)

Went to school there as a kid when my dad worked overseas for a few years, and everyone, including the teachers, beat me and treated me like shit for being an evil American. Fun fact about the story behind this: A few years back, a pride parade went past this guys house, and said that the American flag he flew was offensive, and asked him to take it down. When he refused, they took him to court, and the court ruled in his favor, saying that he can fly whatever flag he wants on his property. So he then flew a Nazi flag with his American flag just to spite the pride parade as it passes by. It soon made national news.
