I’ve had a portable key cutting machine since 1974. The way I obtained it was to take a locksmithing class from home. I will keep mine and I do use it occasionally. I bought my first full size key machine about eight years ago from another locksmith. He had bought it from someone who needs the funds. I would never sell mine . I cut only two different types of keys and I have a huge supply of blanks . A student who wants to be a locksmith would like your vintage key machine. It is probably over fifty years old.
Thank you for encouraging resellers to be nice. I lost both of my grandparents this winter, within a month of each other. My mom and her sisters just their estate sale; it is very difficult to watch memories walk away. When it comes to negotiations, I handle them differently depending on the purpose of the sale. Love people, people!
My daughter is a hospice nurse and makes sure to introduce herself and says she likes to take the memory of that person to her home so that whatever she buys is respected and has their memory. It's amazing how many people find that comfort when selling something they were not ready too
You used a good strategy in picking the yard sales to attend, I'm glad it worked out for you. I respect the way you support your wife by letting folks know about her fishing skills. That's important down South. Thanks!
I'm much older than you 2, but I am having so much fun with the both of you. I feel like I'm there with ya'll. I'm learning a lot, too, even at my age!😊
Cool finds! I brought an old key cutting machine to a "mom and pops" old hardware store just to ask them what it might be worth. They ended up buying from me just to put it on display in the store window!
Funny about the key cutting machine. They are not illegal to own or sell, but certain places refuse to allow them. There are far worse things being sold such as lock picks and bump keys. I would offer you something for the key cutting machine, but I already have too much junk as my wife would call it in my collection. Oh ILCO is Independent Lock Company.
The sold comp at 1:19 of the craftsman right angle driver is mine. Picked up at goodwill for $8. Lol! I had actually seen you pick one up in one of your other videos made me check the comps on it plus I sold some craftsman power tools a year or so ago for good money.
Nice shoes; and yes I still know a cobbler! I love stuff that can be repaired and restored. Key cutter? Hmmm. Not sure about that, unless it was an antique. Post purchase usage???? I'd pass. You have that stuff down with the tools, lol. Craftsman, DeWalt are usually a good bet. Thanks for another enjoyable haul!
You could not hear me screaming at the screen. The Jacob Ruppert's Schnizelbank song - sold comps are $75. Brewerania folks love that stuff. It is from 1935
You might want to pick up some of those collapsible totes with handles for putting your purchases in your vehicle, especially the breakables. My friend and I go to garage sales every weekend, and those sure come in handy not only for keeping our stuff separate, but having everything in one piece when we get home. I have an SUV so we really fill it bumper to bumper sometimes, lol!
I am a locksmith and I have a key cutter, almost identical to that one. I would buy that one from you just to have the parts on hand if you wanted to sell it.
Nice video. As soon as you said high end and South I was like they went to the Pawleys Island Sale. We gotta get together sometime. I finally got one of my warehouses moved down to Florence. Still 35 minutes away from me but better than 11 hours away. Cool pickups
I hope you still have the Key Cutter...... There is a pretty sizable "Lock Sport" community that is about picking locks. It has cross-pollination with "Pen Tester" (penetration) professional community. Many of these folks are into collecting various stuff related to the history of keys, security, Locksmith profession, etc. You post on....."The Locking Picking Lawyer" or "BosnianBill" RU-vid channel and related websites, and inquire. You could be looking at substantial money for the above, depending on what it is and its providence, given the right buyer. I know time is money, so I tried to provide you with the most straightforward way to post it somewhere. GL.
Some states have laws against the possession, sale or transfer of "burglary tools" except by licensed/bonded individuals/entities (i.e - locksmiths, hardware stores, car dealerships, etc.) . Key machines fall into this area of being "burglary tools". E-Bay forbids them since they do business in these states and other countries that have such laws, to avoid liability and possible accessory charges/lawsuits. To go further, there federal laws against making copies of keys to federal installations, buildings and property, (mail-box keys being biggest example) which could be an even worse legal head-ache. example- What if "terrorists" used a key-machine bought off E-bay to do some "terrorist" stuff? I can see E-bay's POV and necessary legal position on this issue.
5:22 It can’t hurt to wear a flounder shirt and have a flounder platter ready at home, if you want to catch flounder. I would probably add a flounder bumper sticker and hat.
@@franklugo6928 how he got it or bought it is irrelevant, the fact is it is illegal to own one of these machines without a licence! Therefore it is also illegal to sell one without the proper licensing- go figure but that's the law!
Interested in selling the key machine? Been on the lookout for one. I deal in antique cars, which are usually missing keys, and locksmiths? Forget it! They want a arm and a leg and no guarantee.
If you are a car-dealer you can probably get a license or bond in your state, and then buy a machine from a distributor/manufacturer of such machines. It does take an amount of skill and other specialty/expensive tools, up to programming computers for modern chip keys, plus high insurance and possibly an indemnity bond(varies by state/jurisdiction), to do such/ be a locksmith today,. Which is why locksmiths charge what they do(especially if a lock or ignition, is missing its key.), beside the "on-call, quick, mobile service, most provide. In your case, a car dealer, I think you might be able work out a deal with a good locksmith, to do all your keys, and get a cheaper "no rush" rate, rather than their usual on call service fees.
What deals at the yard sales. I’ve been going to yard sales for decades and never saw such fantastic deals. I was happy with the boxed collectors knives I bought this weekend, but the tool prices you got were great! The shoes were also great deals, they were $150+ shoes!
Recent subscriber - I need to ask how you are able to ship the Porter Cable Plate Joiner for only $9.95? I steer clear of trying to sell heavy items like that because they are so heavy, the shipping becomes outrageous. May I ask what shipping service (USPS, FedEx, UPS) and what method do you ship with (Ground, Flat Rate, etc)? Enjoying your channel!
How do you still make profit with the shipping costs involved? Anything that has a tracking number starts at like $6-8 even if it's something small that doesn't weigh much, and anything like power tools starts to cost more than the tool sometimes. And these days just about everything sold on ebay has free shipping offered, so i always wonder how people make it work
I don't buy Girl Scout cookies because the Girl Scouts are not making any money off of them , so in all actuality you are supporting the company that makes the cookies , and the Girl Scouts get pennies per box .
Google says they make no less the 80 cents a box on a $5 box....how much do you think the company makes them for - then the branding and shipping them to them? How much do you think the company is making per box
@@beardedthriftmachine If you thought you were going to change my mind you are mistaken , and you are assuming that the company is paying for the shipping . It's not Amazon . You're also not considering that the cookie maker is exploiting FREE LABOR to sell their cookies , and using the Girl Scouts good name to promote their sales . For all of this the Girl Scouts get 15% ? Nice try .
@@beardedthriftmachine I think the key grinder rule is just to protect eBay from liability if one ends up being used for criminal purposes. I got a chuckle when you talked about parting it out, since it's such an obvious contradiction in their policy. =^[.]^=
It's kind of strange. You can readily buy them elsewhere; Amazon sells a variety of them from $200 basic manual models to $10,000 professional electronic laser equipped ones.
I ran into this recently trying to sell a key machine my dad had. It got yanked really quick - I didn't know they were banned. It's really stupid, if you want to copy most keys all you need is the blank, a clamp, and a file. Banning them stops exactly nobody from making illegal copies.
eBay isn’t the only place to sell if you know the business well enough. That vintage key cutter is easily $200 and you can sell it anywhere but eBay. eBay outlaws more stuff than any other platform and it’s all at their discretion so they don’t need a valid reason. Or a sensible one at that. I have a locksmith materials permit, medical equipment license and a art dealer’s certification. Cost less than $250 to get all those and don’t need ebay to make money off of them. With everyone with a smart phone becoming a reseller, you have to do whatever you must to stand out.
Email me regarding the key machine. And let's talk. Aldo I ask you once the model of your GoPro, but I forgot. I'm in Texss the best knocks them out thinking of getting the HERO 8. Keep-On-Keeping-On. Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge. Peace
Because eBay is run by ignorant people. That's the tool that nearly every store that ever made keys used not so many years ago. The idea that it should not be for sale is plainly ridiculous.
Just because ebay thinks they are illegal they may not be illegal. There is a large hobbies lock community that take apart, pick, decode combo lock, master key, cut keys to, etc. Let me know what you want for the key machine. FYI, We are in a small county in North Central Florida. I rarely see a garage sale here.
@@beardedthriftmachine good thing i can put stuff together. If you are really selling it i am interested. I started learning locksport about a year ago and want to start making my own keys for my locks. If you are selling and have links or however you want please let me know.
* Good to learn about key Grinder ~ the guy actually told you it was a key-grinder.. If you have ever had a key made you would or should recognize it.. Understand eBay not wanting people making keys to steal stuff..
Oh man, GS cookies are awesome! Samoas, PB Sandwich, and my kids favs - Thin Mints! I cannot even eat them anymore due to Celiacs, but I easily could've finished a box in a night, but I would also get a stomachache! Ugh! ) : Almost worth it, though! Lol! ( : You guys made out like a bandit at the first shown tag sale with all the tools! Wowee; ( : You guys did fantastic! ( : What is a seed grinder! I love the older woman who gave Kayla all the bike products,, Happy Birthday! 😊 She was adorable! ( : Those AE men's shoes were a downright bargain! Holy moly! ( : Wow! The AE stretchers will cover the cost?!! Nice! ( :😅
I was at a yard sale and I guess it was towards the end of it. This old lady had this old compressor motor. She really didn't know what it was.. So I bought it for 10 bucks. I brought it home. Took apart the electric motor cleaned it. Make sure the belt was good. Plug in. It fired up and ran really good so I Hook it up To my two hundred gallon tank. Is it blew it up. So I went with a bigger tank put off a few Other things like pressure release valves. Now I have a compressir and a tank that never runs out of air.
The "key" with ILCO is Illinois Company. They made keys & locks. The style of the "key" is an older one; your machine is older. A collector who collects locks and/or keys or old machinery might find it very interesting. How you connect with that person without Ebay, not sure.
I look at every yard sale, thrift shop, auction, etc for a key grinder and can't find one to save my soul but you stumble into one. The universe just isn't right.
The key cutter thing is stupid. You can take any key and make a new one with some files, all you need is the blank. Yet ebay has tons of listings for blank keys and files. I ran into this with a keycutter along with old collectible, defunct railroad switch keys and locks. It's a stupid policy.
That Key grinder is awesome. I hate keys, so my key chain for the car is just that key. There is a key chain fir the Post office key, and a keychain for everything else. I have always wanted to have all my master locks keyed for the same key, and have all my door locks keyed fir the same key. So i automatically thought, if i had this key cutter. Lol Then I decided well Costco runs deals on multiple locks, and door lock sets. I'll just do that. Hey nice finds!
Its kind of ridiculous that ebay would ban selling a key machine like that, do a general search of he web and find dozens for sale. That style machine is what they gave us when work put me through a lock smithing course. Over the years I've acquired a couple of them, each pretty much the same but with different brand names on them. They really come in handy and are much more portable than the larger automatic models. I think the original cost of my first one was around $160 back in the 1970's or so, but we got them for 1/2 of that as students. Yours looks a lot older, likely 40's or 50's. The motor appears to be the same as a sewing machine motor and the lack of any sort of guards or eye protection dates it. I'd try listing it locally, because of its age, someone may want it for nostalgia if nothing else, but its more than capable of still copying keys.
You take that key cutting machine to a locksmith and because its old its a collectors item to him he is lible to give you more then you paid for it. Dont part it out.
Went too our Youth Ranch the other day and in their case's they had shoe's for 99 dollars, seems our stores are going up in prices also. But I collect to enjoy someday I might sell but seems too be alit of pickers these days.
key machines owned by an individual is considered burglar tools.the only places like automotive ,hardware stores and licensed locksmiths can legally have posession of a key machine.thats why ebay bans them
I did a side by side taste test of GSC & the knock offs from a main discount chain store with the initials D.G. And also the crave brand from the Southern California Grocers Stater Brothers markets as their home branding products and in both cases, I myself and the few people I blind taste tested- All unanimously agreed with the knockoffs that were a bit cheaper Just some FYI
