Thank you for this video. As of today, May 7th, 2024, out of more than 6 videos about "Switching to Davinci Resolve", yours is the BEST. It's because you DEMONSTRATE in details many advantages & disadvantages of each app. For example, Final Cut Pro disadvantages are: For Noise reduction you have to use plug in, it's not built in. Also FCP is rarely updated compared to Davinci. Davinci Resolve disadvantages are: Steep learning curve. It took you 2 - 3 weeks to learn it, etc. Final Cut Pro advantages are: J cut & L cut editing, Keyword organization. Magnetic time line and Trackpad make editing faster and easy. Davinci Resolve advantages are Audio, video track features. Auto track selector. Best color grading capability. Clip features: Move, link clips. Color management. Easier audio editing. Frequent updates. Group features. Masking tools. Noise reduction. Power bins. The Reliability is the same for both apps. NO OTHER RU-vidR has made such a DETAILED and WELL DEMONSTRATED comparison.

I've watched a lot videos about this but none of them actually connected with my thoughts except your approach. Showing some comparison on the fly is way more efficient to understand both side. Thank you Roma for the effort!

If you want the magnetic timeline in davinci just hold ctrl and shift to swap clips around

It's not a magnetic timeline, but it's a nice workaround..

Sorry in advance if you answer this in the video, but would you mind sharing your render settings? I'm struggling to find a good format for youtube clarity

I export in 4K25p, MP4, H264, Quality 80000kb/s. The rest is set to default.

Just don't use the RU-vid preset in the Deliver page. It sucks and is only meant for ease of use for noobs. Bitrate is king. Upload a video in 4K at 10mbit/s or lower and you can't even be sure, YT will generate a 4K video. +50K is the best. And since YT prefer H. 264 or ProRes or DNxHR or DNxHD for high quality, use at least 80K for H.264. The other formats I mentioned are for professionals, but you can still use them. Just be aware, the files are enormous.

Is there budget friendly pc you recommend for DR 19? I have intel processor and 16gb ram and GPU fails to initialize
@akyhne
@akyhne Месяц назад
That's not a lot of information. What GPU? What do you mean by initialize? What version of DaVinci Resolve? You need Resolve Studio ($299) to use most GPU acelleration in the software. Any Intel CPU with Quicksync should be fine.

for doing faster j and l cut in resolve, hold alt and drag.

Yeah, I know that, but its way more elegant in FCP.

RU-vid is the best place to learn video editing, at least in the beginning.

It's nearly impossible to compare render output times between different software. At least, you should disable any color grading. DR's color grading is so more advanced and accurate, than PP or FCP, but also more complex for the same reason. And even then you can't really compare. Even when using similar settings, like variable bitrate 80000Mbit/s, the output quality is not the same. To compare quality, you'd need to just render through the NLEs with no grading and use a software like FFMetrics (Windows) to compare the original clips to the rendered ones from each NLE. I don't know if FFMetrics has a Mac version, but there's probably a software, that could do something similar, on Mac.

@@RomaFedorov I bet that thing is a work horse though. I would love that upgrade. Currently rocking a 16” 2021 M1 Pro with 16GB of ram and running FCP X…but you’re making me want to convert to Davinci
@RomaFedorov
@RomaFedorov 3 месяца назад
It's really awesome. I love it, especially coming from a small 13" M1 MacBook Pro, and FCP is great overall. But if you're serious about color grading, I highly recommend trying out Davinci. It's just so much better for that than FCP.
