We have 9 tegus and 2 savannas. Tegus are definitely better for most people. But if you can put in 2 years of work, a savannah can be far more placid than any tegu. All of our tegus have a possibility of bites, but our savannahs do not. Tegus are better right out of the box, but a sav could be better in the long run.
My boy neared 5' and was super sweet. He ate insects but the morbidity rate is insanely high within the 1st yr in captivity. Sorry man but ya missed the mark on Savs in this case.
Savannah monitors are awesome pets..... If you have the time patience and space.....i love my sav.... My Yoshi is about 5 years old and he's my little buddy... But yes they go thru a grumpy adolescent stage but keep working with them they learn they safe very smart
What an absolute tool. Ive had my sav since it was 2 months old, its now a year. Ive never seen such a chilled out animal. Both my sav and my beardie were out together, the beardie flared, he just walked by, of course i would never let them harm each other. And he sees my partners dog and her cat (looking out his tank glass) and he dont even achknowledge them. So no this guy is completely wrong. My sav has only bit me twice, once as a baby, and the other he mistook my finger for food recently. This guy is conpletely wrong.
I str8 up went to a reptile show and got a savannah monitor a month ago and it’s the chillest monitor/lizard I’ve ever had. It hasn’t bitten me or anything. It just sits around and chills on my hat or shoulders. It’s only like 4 months old but like with every animal you have to work with them.
What are you talking about. I breed savannah monitors and tegus. All of my savannahs are puppy dogs. Seen more trouble with tegus. I do have some nice tegus. AND I HAVE SOME NASTY ONES. FYI. All my savannahs eat out of my hand
You are incorrect on this one, my savvy is a total sweetheart. You need to spent some time with them so they aren’t scared of you and they will become very docile. Strangers handle mine all the time and it’s totally fine. I only ever feed him from tongs so there is less a chance he confuses a hand/ fingers for food
Meat is a treat, insects are the primary diet. Sure savs can be crazy but so are most reptiles when you first get them. You're going to have to put in the work. This is made in bad faith, please own the animal before you make a vid on it as there are a bunch of other youtubers who own super tame savs. Along with countless other reports of extremely tame savs across FB and tiktok. I have one that's 2 years old. He doesn't like to be picked up but I'm able to kiss his face, boop his nose and rub his checks and lips. He'll smack his tank doors for attention and then go hide after the pet time. He's only bitten me because he was overly excited for food and was very young as now he's starting to identify that my hands are not food. Try harder please, this is giving a bad name to an amazing and easy to care for monitor.
I think calling Savannah monitors hard to tame down and are devils is a bit dramatic. As long as you interact with it from day one it’ll become an awesome lizard I’ve had mine for 4 months now and he was only a few weeks old. I’ve been in and around his cage doing everything I could to get him to know I not a threat I even left a sock in his enclosure and first thing he did was lay on it. Not he is 16inche long and has never show any kind of aggression or tail whipping and allow me to pick him up any way I want to. Any family members or our dog or cat goes around his enclosure or anything he never freaks out or anything. I love my Savannah monitor one of the coolest lizards I’ve owned.
