I don't want to get Stranded "Won't Start" so I Did This / Ignition Switch issue /Jeep Wrangler Jk 

I've had to change worn out ignition switches and locks in several different vehicles over the years. But never on a JK Jeep yet. But it is always good to know about these things. Cause I do know a couple of people who have a JK. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work man. 👍

Love the video. Only wish my jeep cowling/shroud didn’t have a lip that makes it impossible to remove. It’s tucked under the steering wheel and seems to be made so the entire steering wheel has to come off to get free access to the ignition switch. 2017 Sahara JKU

There is also a starting problem that can happen and pushing the shifter (on an automatic transmission) and holding pressure towards park while turning the ignition on to start. Just in case it helps someone stranded.

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK, I'm having issues with it starting. I was having issues with it not wanting to start, as if it was not making contact. If I pushed it and pop the clutch, without starting it, I could then use the key and it would start. I went ahead and replaced the Starter and replaced the wire from the battery to the Starter, Alternator and TIPM with a heavy duty 4guage copper wire and copper connectors. Everything started up perfectly, so I thought I was good to go. The next morning I drove it around and my engine just shut down, I was able to start it back up and kept driving to my destination. It sat in the parking lot for about 1.5 hours. When I went to start it, it would crank run rough for 3 seconds and die, it did it over and over until it eventually would not crank any longer; it had electric but when you went to crank it, nothing. Stranded in a parking lot, I did some research and some people were saying its a ground issue, to add a heavier ground cable from the battery to the engine mount screw that holds the bracket for the alternator. I had a family member purchase and bring me a new heavy duty 2 gauge Ground cable and new battery from the auto part store. I installed the ground cable, no start, Tried Jumping, no start, so I towed it home. I went back to the store and purchased a new Ignition Switch, replaced it and no start. Any suggestions?

Hey. I was trying to figure out how to open the ignition assembly to replace a broken actuator pin. Any suggestions?

I had a dead battery. Then I changed it and the Jeep started but acted like it ran out of gas. Restarted and same thing, then nothing. Now it won't turn over at all and the battery is fully charged all the lights are on dings reads the key but that is it. I'm thinking the problem is this ignition switch. Hopefully that is what it is. I plan to tackle this tomorrow or so. thanks for posting.

Great vid but you left out the most difficult and time consuming part - removing the steering column shroud/cover. Your video stops and moves forward around this element leaving me to believe that there is a trick to the removal or that you had a difficult time as well. The ignition switch can be replaced in 5 min, but the shroud took me over 30 min.

I pulled the ignition switch out slightly and didn't see that little pin sticking out of the assemble. I suppose that might be the issue, the pin. My concern is that I didn't see it fall out anywhere either.

I changed the ignition switch out in my 15 jku and now when you pull the key the dash still says key in ignition. Can you give some advice?

I have a Jeep 2008 Wrangler six cylinder. My wife went out to start it one morning. The windshield wipers came on the dash lights all lit up but nothing. There was no sound from any part of the vehicle. So I bought a battery to replace the one in the vehicle, when I went to connect the battery the green wire burnt through all the way the horn came and there were sparks at the battery connection. That is I hooked up the positive and tried to connect the ground and that what I got, a burnt green wire, the horn and sparks at the ground on the battery? I have never seen anything like that before. I have only had this Jeep a short time and never owned a Jeep or a Chrysler vehicle.

So what did you do ? So it doesn’t at random … not start .

I was having this same issue on my JK. I would turn the key, all the lights would turn on, but it wouldn't crank...no noise or anything. I replaced the ignition switch just now and it didn't resolve the issue. My Jeep is a 6spd and I was wondering if it could be the clutch safety switch going bad?

So the ignition switch can be replaced without having to do any programming? I called 1 jeep shop where i live, they said probably wouldn't need to be programmed. Called a dealership to double check, they said it would need to be programmed. In your video, i didn't see you do anything other than unplug, remove, align the 'key hole' to match the old switch, install and plug it in. Is that correct? I can change the part, just want to make sure i won't need to tow it to the dealership after i save a few bucks doing it myself.....lol

Have a 1987 Jeep Wrangler, 4.2..-5 Speed...Do Not Know IF I have a Neutral Switch, but I am Going to check...Do You Know the Locations of the Fused Links???....Two hour job replacing Ignit.Switch Connector Now 4 Days Into This POS!!..Was Running, and Died...I Can Jump Start with 2 wires, but Looking for Solution, Before I Burn the MFer!!!

What a cheap looking piece of plastic crap. No wonder they wear out easily. And one entire T10 to hold it in place. Wow man Chrysler sure went all out on their engineering on that one!
