I personally don’t like the way this manual math is done. You have no idea if you used every ounce of that fuel you put in (or more). If you were off by just one gallon, it equates to .5 mpg. In this particular case. So personally, I trust the computer on the truck more.

Regarding the Ram mileage with the 8 speed vs. the 6 speed. At highway speeds the mileage should not differ. The gear ratios of 4, 5, and 6 vs 6, 7, and 8 are almost identical. The difference between the two transmissions are the lower gears.
