Today on the channel, we're driving a Jaguar F-Type. A car that I didn't love when it came out, but others did. Over time, I grew to love the F-Type but there was one variant that didn't receive universal praise when new - and that's what we have here.

The rear is one of the best looking aspects of the F-Type. I can't see how anyone would not find it absolutely gorgeous.

I most certainly can see how and why some don't like it's aesthetics. For a sports car, it's far too bulky and heavy looking- it's corpulent in fact. You could never call it svelte, or subtle. The best car designs always have a degree of restraint about them, that's now gone out the window with modern car design. Everything is bulky, brash and too 'try hard,' - overly aggressive. It doesn't even sound particularly pleasant- sounds like blocked Victorian plumbing. I'd rather have an X100 XK8, which had E-Type styling cues.

Hey Man Loved the review. We've had a 2010 jag XF as our family car for years now...trouble free. This year I plan on getting a 2019 or 20 F type. I have tuning kits for this engine that take the hp up to 670 and close to 1000 nuetameters of torqe....that's a proper piece of kit to keep. Thank you

Me too, in fact I like the look of it from the rear the most. Never heard anyone say they didn't until now. For me, a lot of the review was overly critical. I stopped at the point where he said the P-Zero tyres were "not the best in the world" at around 12:30, yet they're highly regarded by many and sell as well as they do for a reason. The experience didn't seem to match the comment and I've never had a problem with them.

@@severnsea3924 it’s nice and wide the large tires with 4 pipes sandwiched in a really well designed bracket, are all blended perfectly, in my opinion like the Porsche 911 two absolutely beautiful configurations, add that wonderful sound and its perfect I own a 2019 in British racing green and when I wash it I always admire it from behind

I’ve got a 2017 v6 supercharged sport coupe in Loire blue. It turns heads everywhere I go. It’s pretty quick, reliable, beautiful and a joy to drive. It slide about a bit at the back though, especially in the wet. I don’t understand how anyone could not be in love with the rear of the car (the old shape). It’s one of the best looking cars on the road.

I would say that the F types best feature is it’s styling. Those clean lines and curves will last the test of time and are a recipe for an amazing classic

Too many cars are going angry and aggressive these days (as in, the past 5 years). Can't we just have a nice, happy sports car again? I thank Lotus for keeping the vertical headlights with the new Emira. My parents had the 2014/2015/2016 (I forget which) F-type S (V8) convertible, and that car was just beautiful. edit: the only problems we had was reliability, and poor customer service from the dealer.

I saw one of those BMWs the other day (instantly had a very similar reaction to you much like a reflex) and I then stood for a good 5 minutes staring at it as I couldn't believe someone had actually bought one with real money. 😂 It was utterly rancid to look at. Not to mention that horrid grille is a giant decal.

I remember when the F type just dropped, I drove up behind one on the highway and I thought it was an Aston Martin at first. Still, cracking that someone actually has the guts to make a car like this. :) I love em.

Rented one of these when they first came out and tested a bunch of Astons around that time and since. The F Type R really has a gokart sort of feel to the handling and ballistic straightline speed. The Astons (V8 Vantage 4.3 and 4.7 included) have more steering feel and corner better, they just feel better engineered to me, more layers to the driving experience. The F Type was a fair bit cheaper though. A lot of car for the money then and now.

They're such different cars. A two seater with great looks, amazing sounds from a big V8, and a luxurious (although a bit outdated) interior, that does 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds...and a modified Focus with a cheap plastic interior, nothing really sporty looking, exhaust pops without any engine sound and nowhere near the power or performance... It's more practical, for sure, and way more affordable...but it's not really in the same category or car. The Aston's are definitely similar in that they look and sound good, but a bit outdated, and they were never the lightest and fastest cars in their segment...but they only cost the same if they're around 10 years older, and reliability could be a problem.

I own a 2016 V6. Had it for 2 years as my daily. I love the looks, the sound and the presence. But to drive it’s miles behind a cayman or 911. Then again it was £30k and you can’t get a 2016 911 for £60k.

I've had my 2015 plate V6S coupe from new. I love everything but the low-speed ride, in towns - and on crappy UK roads - it's very 'crashy'. But I prefer the looks over just about anything else comparable on price and spec. On high speed runs I get mid 30's per MPG, so I've never had any complaints on fuel economy. JayEmm, take note ;)

@@OldSkoolUncleChris I’ve had 3 BMW’s. 4 series coupes and a Z4. The F type is leagues ahead of my previous bmw’s. In the UK, BMW’s are everywhere. You see an F type go past you. You hear it. You can’t help but stare at it.

Lol @ gopping. Love that word, haven't heard it in ages. Very true of the new BMW's though. Love the F-type, beautiful car. Was in the market for one a few years back then ended up cross shopping with a gen 1 R8 and the right R8 came first. Thing that gave me pause was the depreciation which was quite steep initially. Still love them when I see them but would struggle to chop the R8 in for one now.

Thanks James for bringing this cat again. You captured the sound concert so well, I still have goosebumps. And even since... I own a V8S myself. As a driver behind the steering wheel you are a bit far away from the source of joy. The closest you can get to it is the convertible with folding top down. So pure, so aroar plus the wonderful exotic design, that's why I fell in love and had to have one. The newer models with particle filters cannot compete against. So I hope this car will keep its already excellent value for the money for a long time. Maybe even the future classic that enthusiasts want.

Owned my 2015 v8 R rwd coupe since new, recently sold it and have an f pace svr coming as I need the rear seats now. Just can’t be without that AJV8 in my life… while it’s still legal. I optioned mine with the ceramics + 20” forged wheels and put mpss on it upon delivery, then later the ps4s, sorted the traction issues

Huge congratulations on your 200k. You deserve every success. And to cross 200k with an F type epiphany is amazing. I was one of those who screamed “you’re driving the wrong one” at the screen when you tested the convertible V6 against the Evora. The F type was the only sports car I dreamed of having in my garage and luckily my dreams came true last year (RWD f type R). The only trick you missed was to put everything into sports dynamic and then press the exhaust mode button. It reverses the valves and gives you all the fun without to much noise. A kind off ‘silent assassin’ mode. The Fs party trick is being a relaxed, quiet, long distance GT with an easy 36mpg + achievable on the motorway. P.S the Michelin PS4S go on tomorrow.

Great car I was talking to Ian Callum at a Jag event soon after the launch and he had pushed for the AWD version to get the 0-60 mph time down. He also wanted the hatchback on the coupe to be side hinged, like the E type, but the bean counters wouldn't let that one through.

I own a 2017 Storm Gray R coupe and love every second I even look at it. I run all weather Pilot Sports and don't even have any issues in the winter even in the Rust Belt.

I saw that car at the Jaguar Breakfast Club February 2022 meet which was a celebration to the F-type with around 100 on display. I remember it because I have the same paint & trim colours on my XF S Sportbrake, plus it sounded awesome when leaving 👌🏻. Great video explaining the various trim & engine differences 👍🏻. I totally agree about having good rubber on your cars, it's just a shame there are way too many potholes & debris on the / in the roads to damage your tyres before you have been able to get some decent mileage out of them.

It's a very impressive engine. I owned it in an XFR-S I had from new in 2014. You made the same observation that I concluded with - once the novelty wears off the engine doesn't really get much of a work-out in practise because you're either far beyond the speed limits or holding it in manual gear holds just to rev it out and it all feels a bit contrived. I did 900-odd miles in the F-Type V8S at the same time as owning the XFR-S and had similar impressions. Neither car had too much power to control, but both may have had more power than could be realistically enjoyed as a long term ownership perspective. They certainly weren't the "event" that my 4.5 litre TVR Cerbera was.

I would personally definitely pick the V6 S. 380hp and a god holy amazing soundtrack... for a V6. Lighter, more nimble and the center exhaust looks to me a bit better and the quad ones on the V8s

Nah, the R is a monster, much faster, more aggressive with 4 exhausts and the noise is insane. I love mine - 4 years later and I'm still smitten with it.

Let's just say that.. I placed an order for a V6S R-Dynamic around the time they stopped making them and Jaguar Corporate offered me the V8 for the V6 price.. I ended up *declining* and getting a slightly pre-owned V6S R-Dynamic. Sounds 10x better imo and the center exhaust is a lot better looking and more refined than the busy looking V8 pipes. Everything about it is better imo. Have not looked back since.

Which I did, bought a 2016 3.0 S manual transmission car. 30,000 miles, never saw salt, triple black, it has great road presence. As some have said, fast enough, good enough sounds, the full leather interior with the premium seats, for me it has it all. I had to look far from New Hampshire to find it, got it out of Denver, 2,000 miles away. An inspection of the underside showed no leaks, no rust on the steel pieces, it's never seen salt, never will in my hands. The V8 is a beast, a great bargain on the used market, but I wanted a manual transmission and I found a good one.

Had my 2017 F-Type R Covertible for about 14 months now and LOVE it. But I also have a deposit on a new C8 Corvette. It's killing me trying to decide which to keep (No, can't - or really shouldn't - do both). Jaq looks sooooo much better, but the vette's performance numbers and ride sound fantastic and rear engine...damn! My favorite way to describe the F-Type R is a viper that went to college.

F-Type R always made me feel conflicted in terms of how it sounds. I understand why there are people who hate it, calling it 'sounding like indigestion'. It is over the top and absolutely ridiculous. But I can't help myself not to like it. It's just so ridiculous I want it more than 991 Carrera S.

I have owned a V6 and now have a V8. The 6 was a little annoying as the tone is an acoustically generated wail, but mostly is too quiet 90% of the time. The V8 is too quiet 95% of the time. The 600 cell cats are very aggressive and mute the gorgeous tone to the point where you can’t hear the car, at all, on the hwy, and it’s almost always way too quiet. VelocityAP 200 cell cats change the tone to a raspy “no” but do add more volume which is much needed. I found 400 cells which are just right, and now the volume of the lion-like roars and melancholy howl is at least audible.

Bought a v6 for my 30th coming up this year. I do think in a couple of years I'll likely trade up to a newer v8. But I adore the v6, its hella good fun.

Bought an MY18 V6 R-Dynamic manual two weeks. Coming from a tuned TT also manual, the F-type is a much more sophisticated and theatrical car to drive. I was really worried about it being RWD as the TT was FWD and I had so much fun with it on curvy roads. The F-type on good tyres (currently on new generation P Zeros) feels safe and well planted even on cold rainy days on the same curvy roads.

Great video: 1. Just run dynamic mode but with the suspension set to normal...not too stiff ...what I do. Perfection. 2. The look of the things is timeless...way nicer than say a 911 (all of them save perhaps a track oriented car or a rauh welt). 3. The v6 is the better car..more balanced and once you get past the muscle car 0-60 the V6 sounds more F1 (better to me) and is about 100 lbs lighter.

I owned a rwd R coupe for 2 years. I regret nothing. Having said that, you can feel the XK roots when you push the chassis - especially mid corner bumps.

I fondly remember the first time I saw an F Type when they first hit the roads, I nearly wet myself. I thought it was utterly stunning. Aggressive but beatiful and with the most astonishing sound; crackles, pops and snarls. Still love em and this is a great video.

The 4S is too flimsy for a RWD V8. My F is tuned, but not that much, and ripped the cores out of both rear 4Ss at the bead with maybe twenty 3” arc shaped tears per tire. The R888R was out of stock nationwide, so I replaced with Cup 2s. Cup 2s provided much more lively handling with stiffer sidewalls and overall adequate construction, but 350HP per tire totally overwhelms traction. Finally, I found a set of R888Rs and although they still spin, they are the best upgrade ever on a RWD V8 F-Type.

Congrats on the subs milestone. You’ll hit that 1m before you know it. Another car that I’d have in my “collection”, just for the styling and sound of that V8. Unlike you I’d have the roadster. Keep up the great work 👍🏾
