For a 1st gen Silverado EV, GM has done a great job. I guess if you can afford the boat in tow, you can also afford this truck too.
@MH-Tesla
@MH-Tesla Месяц назад
A great job if you want to lose more money than a Cybertruck costs on every sale! Seriously. Why is Kyle even talking about this truck? It's a non starter. It can't count if you lose money on every sale no matter how many you sell.
@johnpoldo8817
@johnpoldo8817 Месяц назад
@@MH-Tesla Having met Kyle and his dad, I’ll try to answer your question. Kyle does a lot of towing, usually over long distances. This truck satisfies his use case more than any other. It’s much better for him than Cybertruck. It is not the buyer’s responsibility to measure profitability. For example, we buy a new TV and never question how much profit Samsung made with our purchase. Maybe over time, GM will figure out how to cost reduce this product. Also, this truck may have a halo effect to help sell other GM vehicles at a profit.
@MH-Tesla
@MH-Tesla Месяц назад
@@johnpoldo8817 Yeah. I get it. I just like to make my point. And I'm not a Cybertruck crazy. LoL. It's a funny analogy. GM skips the engineering and says, just dump a crap ton of batteries in it and call it good. These EV vehicles will never go mainstream so cost doesn't matter. Make sure we look good to the uniformed and move on. I think Kyle should at least inform viewers on the obvious.

Nothing ecological about putting more than 200kwh in a car someone is daily driving if it’s not a work truck. Get a model 3 sr or a fiat 500e and use a gas truck 1 or 2 times a year. Waist of resources.

I think someone needs to talk about level 2 home charging with one of these 200+ kWh battery packs. I get 11.2kw on my 48 amp supply and I can imagine how long your electrical panel is supplying power to this truck if you are charging up from a low or even mid state of charge. I had a 2002 Avalanche, and at almost 20 years old, it's midgate did not rattle... Also, it's worth noting you don't have to take the window out to use the midgate if your stuff isn't too tall, so you can (with a bed cover, the Avalanche had a pretty strong ridged one, anying to store and seal wore out) protect stuff you weather / prying eyes. I loved having that midgate! Good explanation of features like that brake blending guys, thanks!

@@markrichards9792 Right, I looked up their official press photos and am looking at one right now that shows that, but also that you cans divide it in a sort of 60/40 split. On the lack of CarPlay and Android Auto - if the infotainment is decent, I generally don't mind. But for GM - a company that offered it for many years - to _remove_ it is just annoying. And it isn't "for customer experience" reasons, it's money, plain and simple. They want to sell you mobile data, they want to track you and sell your data.
@kingpin7666
@kingpin7666 Месяц назад
GM was really salty that they missed the boat on aggregate location data. So they design their infotainment system to collect and sell the aggregate location data that’s why they don’t have CarPlay or android auto because when it’s on your phone, they don’t share that aggregate data with GM. their studies found out that people weren’t using built-in navigation so they eliminated the option of Apple CarPlay and android auto

What kind of work? Residential and commercial solar and electrical. ive carried entire pallets of commercial solar panels in rhe bed and towed dual axis tilt trailers with 32 foot scissor lifts with ease. And its smaller size makes it the perfect daily driver for me as well. But yes the Silverado EV is super impressive, especially for long distance towing.

No, folks. I'm not talking about some lame range extender that takes up valuable real estate in the bed of the truck. I'm talking about the main battery pack that is under the truck. Although I personally cannot go much more than 2 hours without a comfort break, I do understand that there are not super-chargers at every stop along the road and that some destinations are far from main highways. For those reasons alone, a towing range of about 200 miles would be far more useful than a towing range around 120 miles, which is what the Cybertruck does now. I'm not a Tesla insider, so this is just speculation on my part. I suspect that Cybertruck range is not as good as what was presented at the unveiling because the 46-80 fell short of it's intended energy density. I do expect the batteries to get better and, as a consequence, that Cybertruck range will improve. But, lets' be honest, Most people do not tow 7 ton trailers around all the time with their light duty pickups.

In that case I would prefer a truck weighing 2000 pounds less. A large heavy battery is a detriment to purchase price, comfort, off-road handling, road-handling, efficiency, wear & tear, and road safety. I look forward to see a review of the small battery version. I really like the gimmicks like the mid-gate and the tailgate (not just a gimmick - it is really practical).

Great video, I bet a lot of that bad ride over small sharp bumps is the tires... I would swap on some light smaller wheels to give more sidewall on the tire. Too bad they did not think of a camping mode, with the midgate down and all the power outputs you could do some amazing camping rig stuff in the back. My Bolt EV also powers down I think after 2 hours.. BUT.. you can trick it.. but it's a bit of a pain. Power the car down, get in the back seat.. lock the doors.. Use a stick.. Press the brake pedal, power the car up.. use the stick, press the brake pedal, and apply the parking brake, then put the car into Neutral. It will then stay on indefinitely... unless you are charging. I will not allow you to go into Neutral when the charging cable is inserted... when either AC charging or DC Fast charging.. so you have the 2 hour limit then. This technique MIGHT work on the Silverado too.... once you guys can get one for a while You could try it. Overall the truck looks amazing.. its expensive.. But hell so is a nice GMC Denali... they are in the $90K range too.

However I AM loking forward for those EVs made from factory - Suburban, Yukon XL. Those should be awesome vehicles.

I'm not a GM fan any longer, but I hope this truck brings much needed competition to the segment. I would really like to see cheaper prices but I don't think that is very likely as prices have never come down so by the time I might want to purchase something like this it will probably cost as much as my house. ☠️

We need a Tahoe version of this with actual 3rd row legroom. The 3rd row legroom is too tight in the r1s and ev9 to be useful.

The digital rearview mirror isn't good IMO. You have to refocus your eyes from far (driving) to 2-3 feet to focus on the mirror. I've driven an SUV with one and immediately turned it off to use as a reflective mirror

I'm really intrigued by that regen paddle, I'd like to try it. I really do kinda like off-pedal decel to be 100% regen only and I can blend in the friction when I want. I'm kinda weird even on Teslas I really prefer to be roll mode. Pedal = friction. Off-throttle = regen. If I had an additional paddle, I'd love that.
@bikeaddictbp
@bikeaddictbp Месяц назад
My Chevy Bolt has that regen paddle but it's the older on-or-off design. It's great that they made it force-sensitive! I still drive the Bolt with one-pedal off and using the paddle most of the time ... just have to time the application and release the paddle for a moment before stopping to get it to stop in the right spot. Nice feature to have.

I would change out the wheels to 18" for even more range. I think 24" wheels are overkill. And Sandy Munro would say GM didn't need a screw in bag in the frunk, all they had to do was use Velcro, like Tesla did. That to tonneau cover is disappointing and can easily be cut open. Trucks need a solid bed cover like the Rivian and Cybertruck have because then you can safely keep things in there without fear that they will get stolen. But why did GM copy the screen knob like on the Ford?

In regards to the internal noise, I have a '13 Avalanche (glad to see it come back as the EV) and if you don't get the mid wall seated firmly you get some rattle even though it is latched. Also on my there are two rotating locks that really seal up the wall and stop a lot of the rattle. I wonder if that is the problem here?

If GM tried to build the Cybertruck, it would cost $200,000. However, Tesla could not even design hubcaps to work without damaging the tires. This is why I love the Cybertruck, but will ultimately buy the Chevy EV. Well done GM! And great review!

Man I was really skeptical of the Silverado EV knowing the issues GM had with Ultium in the beginning, but I think they have a really amazing product here. The only issues I see are price and charging infrastructure. 350kw charging is going to be really important when towing with a 200kWh battery pack. I think both of those will resolve over time as cell price per kwh decreases and 1000v charging becomes more common.

another nice video. good mention about the fit and finish. As I've said before, I've owned a '65 Corvair, '95 GMC Jimmy, '01 Saturn Vue, '06 Chevy Avalanche, and a '16 Chevy Malibu. I notice the quality of GM products going downhill over time. I read that they have to cut corners because of their high retirement fund burden.

This is a preproduction truck some NVH and fit/finish issues will be ironed out as production really takes off. I also suspect Mid-Gate may see some seal/design refinements. They said they had a Grey 25 on display, I wonder what little hidden changes it has compared to the 24s.

GOAT EV actual pickup to date.. Fair price to match, though - but fully loaded at $100k, would opt for this over CyberBeast for the same money (assuming it stays in production). 4WT might be the one to opt for, starting at $79k with 450 miles range; 3WT starts at ~$75k with 390 miles, which is still more than long-range Rivian R1T, Lightning and CT. 05:32 Press material says 'Standard DC fast charging (up to 350kW) on WT and RST... The RST and WT feature public DC fast charging capabilities of up to 350kW enabling approximately 100 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes based on GM estimates.' - 'The Pickup Reimagined: 2024 All-Electric Chevrolet Silverado', GM 2024-05-13

You should consider a 2 motor pickup or SUV EV challenge, range, tow capacity, turn circle, comfort and space inside, car camping, off road, trailer power. Sure the Hummer EV SUV isnt cheap even in 2x trim but it tows 12,000 lbs and is as manueverable as my Bolt EV. It is lux statement. The Silverado EV 2x is long range, less towing, not as manueverable and not easy to park. Cyber truck is long and wide and odd looking and dangerous (lose a finger). 2x is pretty sporty but tows a 1,000 pounds less than the Hummer and short range. Kind of a SUT cross between SUV and Pickup truck. Can you sleep in it without the $100 tent? Rivian has multiple dual motor versions with multiple batteries each option adding $4k price points. Might pick a price point or have a cheapest Rivian option.
