Notification Squad: The follow up video to our epic road trip is now up over on the Chris Abroad channel in a few days! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lcvO12BXpes.html I hope you enjoyed our journey through the snowy mountains of central Japan - let us know which place you'd want to stop at the most!
I am sorry to be an annoying grammar nazi even though I am not the best at English myself but it should probably not be monkey's but monkeys. The first one would suggests we are talking about that specific monkey while monkeys is just the plural of monkey. Have a good day.
@@Jonathan331 I also got caught spelling "grammar" as "grammer" while being a grammar nazi 2 years ago on a RU-vid comment. I still remember it to this day from the sheer embarrassment.
I think video quality doesn't effect much of our viewing from time to time, but when you watch an Abroad in Japan video you really notice the quality of filming. Every scene that Chris shoots in-between the vlog looks like movie quality. Thank you for what you do
Late reply but it kinda illustrates my point, these videos are from years ago and if you told me they were a release today I'd actually struggle to disprove it the production is on point
It breaks my heart that this was demonetized. You can tell all of the time, effort, and care Chris put into it. Having watched all of his videos, this was one of the most enjoyable ones yet. I have watched this several times over, and can’t for the life of me see anything remotely offensive.
Am I experiencing the mandella effect? I watched this for the first time 12 hours ago and there was an extra blooper at the end where he said “cunt”. I watched back and that blooper is no longer there.
@@TheMagicSchlyde yes it was. Maybe Chris edited the video thinking such was the issue but YT still doesn't fix it. Or maybe that wasn't the issue? Who knows really.
Honestly couldn’t help but smile seeing Connor genuinely enjoy himself that much at the monkey park. So wholesome. And that place just looked so surreal. The mixture of comedy and depth with those shots and narration at the monkey park was just awesome. I’m a huge fan of this series.
These wacky weekends are getting better and better every episode, the chemistry, the locations, the camera work. Genuinely can't click fast enough whenever I see them pop up.
as a sri lankan , i can safely say that expecting to see " i love sri lanka " in one of the deepest train stations is one of the most unexpected scenarios i have ever hoped to see
That's what I was thinking, Connor keeps saying he's cold, and I'm like, "Bruh! You're wearing a long sleeve top with a bomber jacket!" Where is their actual winter clothing? It doesn't get near as cold where I'm from, and I wear way more in winter 🤣
Well its not actually that cold there for them its just the conditions make snowfall more common so they’d probably be fine with a slightly thicker jacket
I worked at Jigokudani monkey park for 3 months researching their behaviour, and studied macaques in Japan for a year. I made some friends with guides at the park and others, and apparently monkeys had been spotted in completely different areas of Nagano bathing in peoples private hot springs, super far from the park. No one had them tagged so they weren't sure whether they were monkeys from the park or just random monkeys that had discovered the behaviour on their own, but nonetheless interesting. Japanese macaques do have a lot of interesting cultural behaviours; bathing, food washing, stone handling. Also, if you get the chance to go study in Japan for whatever reason, don't hesitate, it's amazing
I'm just rewatching this video and realized how incredible the shot at 19:19 is. The monkey was just minding its own business and then smiled at the camera.
Takeaway points: I want Chris to organise my Japan holiday activities, and the Japanese Government should probably be paying Chris and Connor a tourism advertising fee.
This is kinda the quintessential Abroad in Japan video for me. Wacky start at Doai Station, beautiful ryokan, goofy sake vending machines, majestic snow monkeys and a nice epilogue getting food in the snow before dinner and a bath. All of this amazing content with two great hosts!
Seeing Connor this happy over monkeys gives me a lot of joy. Also, I like Chris videoshots with Connor in it. It just gives you a better image on how big the places are with someone in the shot
@@RCXDerp Despite the fact that is actually against Japanese federal law. I personally would have complained but at the same time I understand why not to bother. The Japanese police pretend real hard not to understand their own laws when foreigners are involved in the equation.
Chris, I really want to express my gratitude to you for making such PREMIUM content my man. The editing, the photography, the pacing, it’s all so very underrated. You have really elevated your content to an amazing level. I enjoy these videos MASSIVELY, and I’m sure there are many little small details you put in that you think people don’t notice. But we do, and we appreciate them. Keep up the awesome work dude 😁👍
I love coming back to watch your videos, they're always so cleanly shot with great transitions and drone footage *chef kiss* lovely work as always Chris
You guys will have to ask the hotel yourselves. It was just a suggestion based on what I’ve seen before, the space inside seemed too big just for suitcases…
I am so happy that Chris is kind enough to visit Connors home town and friends. Also question How to the monkeys get out of the hot spring in the cold?
“Chris visiting connor’s hometown and friends” lmao But to answer your question, the monkeys have no problem getting in or out of the hot spring. In fact, they seem to enjoy being in the hot spring.
Doai Station looks like a prime filming spot for something unsettling. Imagine being winded, sitting at the halfway point bench, only to see a creature crawling towards you with incredible speed.
I love seeing how Connor essentially went from a fan/admirer of Chris to what I’m assuming is a close friend (assuming this of course for how much they openly mock each other like one does when they’re familiar). Not doing any shipping here. I just think it’s nice and wholesome watching genuine friends just enjoy hanging out.
I think this is one of my favorite videos. I'd love to go to see the sake vending machines and the monkeys in the mountains in winter. All of the snow falling was beautiful
I upgraded my monitor to 4K last year and watching Abroad In Japan on it is one of my favourite things because the quality of the shots are so good its like a window you could step through sometimes.
20:59 The commentary about seeing humanity in the monkeys combined with the footage of the monkeys making big scary faces and one biting the other was absolute gold.
Is it just me or Chris’s POV of Connor is very detailed and sweet 😭 really shows what a sweet and caring person Chris is. (Hope I’m not over reading this ahh) Also the production is ✨✨✨ thank u Chris for bring this to us!
Connors pure joy at seeing the monkeys is really cute. I love these laidback vibes to your Wacky Weekend trips. Always one of the highlights of my month!
It’s really rare that a video can make me truly feel like I’m there - but your videos always do Chris. The quality of your editing, cinematography, music, narration and much more techniques that I probably don’t know about is just really beautiful. When you got to the monkeys, I felt like as if I was there, and I really want to go myself one day!
Honestly, the monkey footage looked so much like a David Attenborough documentary, props to Chris for such amazing cinematography. In fact the whole video felt like a netflix documentary. Amazing work chris!
I've never been so close to crying just from watching a trip video. Lived in mountains since being born, but this is just breathtaking. I love every aspect of it, the station, restaurant, hot springs, sake. I can guarantee You, this video made me decide on visiting Japan one day. Thank You very much, the work done here is awesome!
Absolutely bunk that RU-vid would make the decision to demonitize this video. Thank you for all of your effort in bringing us this excellent content Chris and friends! RU-vid, get your act together you bunch of fools.
Chris, my former Tokyo International University colleagues and I have a story about that terrifying train station. We all took a hike up Tanigawa and almost died. We should have known this would be the result when our trip started at that Station from Hell which was even creepier in 2018 when we were there. There were no kawaii items in the station, just dread. And oh btw there's a monument to all those who have died on Tanigawa not far from that train station. 😰
Chris, I just wanted to thank you so much for your videos. I live in America and am not in good health to be able to travel. I have always found Japan to be a kind of connection to me. Ýou have given me a wonderful trip around the country with all your videos. So thank you so much and please stay healthy, happy and safe always. Blessed be
While you two were floundering around in bottomless snowdrifts, Sharla and her friend were visiting Nara, where the sakura were in full bloom and they didn't even need coats.
I actually did a presentation for my Japanese class a few days ago about JP's train culutre, and touched on Doai station. It's really cool to see Chris and Connor visit there
FYI, this video's demonetized for unknown reasons - please give Chris your support by giving this whole thing a watch! EDIT: The RU-vid demon has reconsidered and re-monetized the video...but don't you just wanna watch some monkeys?
Or head over to Patreon and enjoy lots of behind the scenes videos. You can cancel after one month if you need to, so it doesn't need to cost more than 2 dollars.
You were so much happier and friendlier in this video and I *LOVED* it. I never thought I'd hear a smile in you voice without you roasting somebody but it turned out to be super wholesome. More happy, nice Chris please 🥺 Edit: just propose to him already 🖤
Wacky weekend is one of my favourite youtube series! Usually I don't comment a lot but I hope to help you get more views after the demonetization. Thanks to you I can see and discover more about Japan and you make me laugh even when I feel down, much love from Italy to both of you 💗 I adore your content, both when together and separately!
On its own cream cheese is meh at best. Using it as a flavoring in sake ( which is already an acquired taste all on its own ) isn't going to improve things.
23:27 had me dying with Conner. Except I was dying with laughter. The stark contrast of Conner anxiously wanting to get out of the cold next to Chris calmly eating his Yakitori savoring every bite is hilarious.
Had to turn my AC extra cold to have that bit of extra immersion. I definitely have to recreate that trip once the borders reopen (minus the train station workout). Thanks for another brilliant video Chris - keep up the good work and don't stop enjoying what you do.
Chris I’ve been following for years and years, and you introduced me to Connor with wacky weekend when you two first started, I’ve been binging Connor’s stuff for a few months now, and I’m just in love with this whole series now that I “know” both of you separately! Seems everyone else agreed this is the best series, hope you both keep doing this for a while longer!!
Chris, I’ve been loving all of your videos which I have watched and I can’t even imagine the ridiculous amount of planning you put into them. I know it’s not much but I just want to tell you thanks for all the content that makes my boring days a bit more interesting
