Cornstarch is called cornflour in the UK. It cost about 70p a box in most of the big supermarkets (and even cheaper in Aldi and Lidl). Fine ground white powder that makes the hard and runny at the same time thing when you mix it with water. Great for thickening sauces etc. Please note what Americans call cornflour is what we call cornmeal in the UK (it’s yellow and courser). So I can 100% guarantee if you buy a box of cornflour from a UK supermarket it will be the same as the US cornstarch you bought.

As an American whose lived abroad for over 20 years it’s funny and interesting to me having experienced it from both perspectives. You can’t get proper hot dogs anywhere outside of the states either. Lived in England for 6 years now in New Zealand. When I do go back to the states, my sister always brings me a twinkee when she picks me up from the airport.

The grape "syrup" is actually grape jelly. You could technically put it on pancakes, but for American's it is more common on bread. Like spread on toast, sandwiches, and even on bagels. For the sandwiches the jelly is usually paired with peanut butter.
