Whoa!! From one dad to another, I KNOW you can see the blessing of “only” losing a hunk of flesh. I’d say I’m under 2 hours from your site. I’d be more than happy to help you finish that ridge to your exact specification. You’ve given it well more than enough. It wouldn’t cost you anything except a lesser hunk of pride and would save the apprehension as you delegate and manage the goodness from ground or deck level. Screws are faster and far stonger then nailss for metal hangers. Getting close on making the cabin weather tight.

I’m glad you are ok. But my dude, you gotta keep a pretty solid first aid kit at the cabin, especially given it’s remoteness. At a minimum a tourniquet that you know how to use and trauma bandages. I personally would also add coagulant pads and a SAM Splint. Also I really like the Myrtle stain. It really draws out the natural features of the wood without artificial feeling dye.

Graham, going back to the Toyota's. Look for a 2015 Tacoma. Its one of the top most reliable vehicles ever made and you should be able to find a used one at a good price after trade-in. On the deck stain, I say Pinecone but i would wait 6 months for that wood to dry out completely before applying. God speed on a fast recovery! You're absolutely killing it on these cabin builds. I always look forward to your new videos! I think i speak for a lot of folks that you have inspired many of us to start our own cabin builds someday. I know I'll be watching re-runs someday when i start my own build!

Someone needs a worksite first aid kit! I did roofing for about four months in my early twenties... was mostly asphalt shingles... first day doing metal roofing I quit... that shit is scary! Cabin is looking pretty awesome, Antique pine is the ringer!

Myrtle wood, walnut or pecan are my favs. I'm a big fan of "natural" look so that's why I like those.

And go with KOA stain. As a guitarist, I am a fan of Hawaiian Koa and I think the color stain you have picked works really well.

That was a close one buddy. I nearly did myself in this week too when I pushed on a dead tree with the excavator and an 8 foot section broke off the top and went right through the cab between my legs. No one would have found me for at least a day if it had got me. We gotta be extra careful out in the woods alone.

I was SO anxious…waiting for the “incident”. I’m so sorry you were injured, but glad that you’re okay. Every time you got on the roof, since the beginning, I’d worry…about something happening.
