I guess we're supposed to get used to prices in $80-$100K range. Crazy world.
@theglowcloud2215
@theglowcloud2215 Год назад
I mean...everyone has the option of just not buying a new car. And I realize that implies "buy used", which would then drive up used prices (again). What I'm suggesting is people buy nothing, drive their cars until they break down for good, then stop going to work. That'll send the right message to the ownership class.

Not an EV truck fan in general and yes this truck is expensive as hell but it may actually pay for itself when used as a fleet. Fleet trucks drive a lot of miles annually and typically sit idling for extensive periods of time. An ICE F-150 might pull 12-14mpg and drive 40-50k miles per year. That is about $14k per year in fuel alone. That savings would quickly offset the $40k difference in initial price.

@@JDC129 Now imagine the company has PV installed. Even more cost reduction. And now add the savings in service and maintenance. 50K miles will be about 1-2K each year. Several real live reviewers showed 485 miles of range in around town driving which is what a lot of fleets do. Even towing the 9k load it was getting over 1.2miles per kwh so 240-260 miles of range towing. I'd guess under 400 hwy though maybe as low as 350 if you are doing all 75-80mph. 🤔
@Snerdles

@@4literv6 Even vehicles like the MG4 lose about 40% of their city range doing all highway driving, so 485 would drop to at least 290, but this is far less aerodynamic than an MG4. Add on towing and you're probably looking at stopping every 2 hours for nearly an hour of charging if going 75mph.

This truck is staying in the city/suburban areas. Nobody is going to be road tripping this truck but with a 450 mile range I could take this truck from Washington DC, where I work, to Philly, drive back & still have over 200 miles of range. You can also take this from DC to New York and get almost halfway back before having to charge. For what the work truck is designed for this has more than enough range because it's rarely going to go more than a couple of hundred miles in a day so depending on what the use case the space would be more important.
@Swissk31300BO
@Swissk31300BO Год назад
@@kenyattaclay7666the work trucks should have MORE range not less. Also your assumption that these are not leaving suburban areas is completely un founded and I have to assume is based on you living in Washington DC Philadelphia area. For example, Michigan and Ohio this thing could easily do 300+ miles as its average daily work commute. You then run the machines in tools on site with onboard power and suddenly you’re dead in an hour. Anyone that owns a business does not want the truck to be charging for hours daily potentially, so yes, aerodynamics are incredibly important and should be factored in. Especially if a useless “Frunk” is the reason this thing is as aerodynamic as possible
@kenyattaclay7666
@kenyattaclay7666 Год назад
@@Swissk31300BO Once again, this truck isn't going on a cross country road trip & 99% of them are going to stay within the same 30-40 mile radius. There are several municipalities & companies that have already gotten work truck & cargo vans with far less range & they have all said that they don't even come close to running out of range in a day. Even if you take a most extreme example of where I live in the DMV/Baltimore area you could be a company based in Fredericksburg & have a job to do in Baltimore. You could leave at 100%, do your job & get back with about 250 miles of range left. The simple fact is it is COMPLETELY false that you need more range for a work truck.

Real question here, how can they get more efficient motors without making a lot of evs first? This is 63-67mpge at 8,500#+ so 3x the efficiency of an equivelant gasser easily. 🤔 Batteries I agree on after watching the munro live teardown of the hummev pack. Based on rivian lucid and tesla pack weights&capacities? This pack isn't even as weight efficient as a 2017 model s p100d pack was. So they've got some learning to do imo. And gm found out pouch cells are not the answer. Prismatic or cylindrical are the way forward. Either of those would've produced a lighter more energy dense setup for sure. More than likely going to be a niche vehicle for a while. Once dealers get a hold of these and the RST they will mark them up 10k and make them even more unobtainable for someone looking to switch to an EV truck. I looked at lightning before buying a raptor and a XLT with the long range was about 15k more than my raptor.. definitely different vehicles but I wanted to try something different but the ridiculous cost and low range makes it such a hard sell. The GM at least has 450 miles of range but for almost 80k... That's getting into crazy money for a vehicle that is pretty bare bones
@unconventionalideas5683

Nope. The Range goes to crap once you tow. Just like all EV trucks. Lighting will be dead in about 140 miles. If your lucky. So you want to tow a camper to California and drive for 8-10 hours? Maybe this one can go 200 while towing but that ain't going to cut it. You will still be looking for a charge station in 3 hours times LOL. That's going to be a PITA full stop. Hummer is total crap as well. And the fact that these trucks weigh 9000 lbs does not help. Sure they might have a ton of torque but that is negated with all the battery weight. Which also takes away from load capacity. EV trucks are a complete joke/gimmick. Complete total waste of money. And GM/Ford are loosing so much money making this crap. So much that they have to charge way too much for their ICE trucks to make up for it. Basically they have been running in circles with Li-on battery tech. In this application they have hit a wall. I recommend going to settings and select the max level of one-pedal deceleration and then use the foot-button to turn it on and off. Changing levels of one-pedal-driving is easier in, for example, the Bolt where a quick tap on shift stick is all you need to get "L" mode (quickest decel). The Bolt EUV has buttons covering PRND & a button for max one-pedal drive mode. Not sure why they didn't put "L" on the Silverado's steering column stick shift, I guess they wanted to keep it simple.

I have a feeling they are doing that because of switching to the Tesla connector next year, and all of their cords on their superchargers are short and you have to back in... It would be nice if they make some stations that you can pull in next to, more like a parallel type parking for those few people needing to charge with a trailer connected. I'm sure there are chargers that are in parking lots that have plenty of room to implement this, maybe not all locations but I would think some of the ones in areas such as walmart parking lots would be able to set this up...

@matthewprather7386
@matthewprather7386 Год назад
@@necrojoe my assumption is that with the weight savings there will be an improvement in energy efficiency (kWh per mile). So for a given charging power the lighter vehicle will gain more distance per unit time charging. And even though the smaller battery may not be able to accept as high peak charging power as the big battery, many charging locations will continue to be limited in output, which means the more efficient vehicle will have an even higher distance per charging time advantage. That advantage may diminish if / when ultra-fast chargers become the norm, but it hasn’t happened yet - Tesla still has a lot of V2 superchargers that are limited to 150kW shared between two stalls. Many EA chargers rated at 350kW are limited to less than 200kW or lower.

Then just imagine if 5,000 people in an average populated US city tried to charge these and drained the power grid! These PR stunts by the big auto makers is just that.
