I agree it's an Avalanche SUV rather then a pickup truck with a two piece body, although this does not have a frame like the Avalanche did. Who would have though people would buy a big crew cab with a short bed for a work truck, used to be regular cab and 8' bed, an extended cab was a big upgrade for a work truck.
@donhappel9566
@donhappel9566 11 месяцев назад
@@ohioguy4326 And that's the whole problem with both this and the "Pro" version of the Ford. Work trucks have more bed and less cab. That funky flying buttress thing means half the bed isn't accessible and none of the existing racks or shells will fit it. As for the 120v out, I just don't understand people getting excited about that when virtually every tool you'd use on a job site is battery powered these days. I only use the inverter in my truck to charge my Milwaukee batteries anyway. I'm sure there's SOME use for it, but little and getting less every day. I'm sure there will be a handful of these used for actual work, just as I've seen one or two of the EV Lightning used for work (for that matter I'm pretty sure I've seen more actual Lightnings used for work than the new EV version!) but really it's just a low-content version of the family truckster model.

@@Nitromudder Yah.. this is just the very early/start though. I agree pricing is insane. A few more years from now, though, with the updated battery tech, and you'll be able to get 800+ mile range, and charge from 20 to 80 in about 5 mins for a 500+ mile range. It's already been tested (not for this truck.. just prototype tech) so it's not an if but when. Kia is actually bringing a couple of EVs to the market soon using Sodium batteries that will get 300+ miles on a 40Kwh or so battery and have 20,000+ charges.. basically making it a lifetime battery system if you keep the car that long. It's still early days/new tech, so I suspect the EV tech will advance much more than it is now making EVs the best choice in every aspect. Except maybe super cold.. not sure how they solve that short of the small heater systems they currently use.

For $79k, the WT should have the midgate. I could actually fit my bikes in those short beds if the cab portion were accessible. And those 24" rims on the RST are clownish. 22s should be the max, and really 20s would be best for that 'sport' application.

I think you inadvertently hit on why this is not a WT (work truck) - you just commentented that you could carry a bicycle in it IF you could actually use the full bed instead of having those Avalanche-like flying buttresses. First, you're not even thinking of working out of it you're talking about bicycles. Second, that lack of bed access means you can't use half of the bed and no work accessories like racks or shells will fit. Work trucks don't have/need giant cabs, then need small cabs and giant beds. its pretty obvious GM was thinking about doing a work truck with a small battery (around 100kwh), around the time they were pitching a "cheap" work truck (I think 40-50k for a work truck is still pretty expensive). I believe they then looked at their battery supply, that it was very low, and decided to just sell the largest battery pack in the work truck, and focus on selling fewer, but very good spec work trucks, i.e. the big battery. The fleet deals that will go down this year will all be sweetheart deals between board members and friends of board members companies. They will volunteer to beta test the platform and for their investment, they will get some work trucks with awesome range. This is why these are the "4WT", i.e. there are going to be 4 total sub-trims for the work truck line. There will 100% be a 250mi range work truck for "49,900" in 2025. Then, as has always been the case, there will be a 1LT, 2LT, a custom, etc. But for now, yea, its economics. They don't have many batteries, and they need to make a statement. One option would be to try and sell as many trucks as they can with small to average battery packs. The better option is to sell just a small handful with huge ones, and get people who are skeptical into the EV camp. A 200mi work truck wouldn't do that. As much as I would *like* a 200-250 mi work truck to do around town truck stuff, that just isn't reality right now. They need these trucks to sell people on EVs and it just makes obvious sense to release the big battery trucks first.

Looks a lot more advanced than the Ford Lightning. For a business I would imagine that with the large battery you can save recharging until you get back to base, so that would be a huge saving in fuel costs vs a diesel/petrol and fluid maintenance costs would also be a lot less if other long term experiences hold true. Many EV owners with 100K or more, report only tires and wiper blades as their non fuel expenses. That adds up to big numbers in a commercial fleet!

The thing people should realize before judging the price of the Work Truck is although it's called "Work Truck", many of the standard features are more-so comparable to that of LTZ, Lariat, and Laramie trim levels rather than the Work Truck, XT, and Tradesman trim levels on other ICE trucks.
