I remember feeling like shit not being able to get any internship during my time at uni but now I work as a full time developer. It all works out in the end, no matter how shitty it may feel right now. Thanks for sharing your updates!
Same right here. No internships but still got an offer 3 months out of college. Jumped to a new company now and working full-time full-stack developer.
I've moved from Ukraine to Canada recently, and have been looking for an IT job since September. So far, 2 interviews, around 200 rejections. Fairly enough I don't have a degree (was getting one before I left Ukraine), nor work experience. Glad to see that I'm not the only one struggling today.
omagaaaad brooooo. I really wanted to get my first job and relocate from Ukraine too but all my applications were flops so I gave up and now applying in Ukraine. So far no progress here too. I guess I'm just talented like that. Good luck to you finding anything! You made a great choice and I'm sure you'll end up in a good place!!!
Student from Uni with top score from my country are struggling to even get into fresher position. People with 2-3 years of experience are competing with them, lots of the student ended up doing other jobs. It kinda suck rn
I'm a career switcher 3 years post my graduation, completed a few online coding courses, DS&A and a full-stack bootcamp and currently sending off multiple applications and leetcode all evening. Multiple rejections and and some no responses, with 3-4 returning with technical interviews. I passed a technical interview last week and hope my video interview goes well this week. Its tough. But i believe it will work out in the end. This is giving me hope! Thank you Nicholas.
Same here. On my third year of post graduation. Got 3 offers = they couldn't do visa. Completed a few assessments and got to final stage = they couldn't do visa. Finally got a software engineer job = country announced visa ban on Africans. --- Now at the beginning of 3rd year out of university, have set an ultimatum to go back to washing dishes if I don't get a job by December. The tech job market is unstable and a mess. If I hadn't stopped washing dishes I think I'd still have a stable career as a hotel/restaurant manager by now. Money and time wasted.
@@paulinoleal5592 Thank you! Took the interview and currently, they said they will respond to everyone whether we did well or not by by end of March early April. If it goes well, then 1 last interview is left. So I’ll update you guys then. Kinda worried but we’ll see.
@@a.m.4154 Don’t give up just yet. I know it looks or seems hopeless in your eyes now but in 20 years time, you will look back and think thank god I didn’t give up. Everyone can have come-up story.
Bro I am so jealous of your gainz. Thanks for briefly sharing your progress cause honestly its really a lot! congrats on your upcoming internship just dont forget to go to the gym.
I am also a third year student studying CS struggling to find an internship. It gets so hard to find motivation when you've been taking solid Ls in life.
Love your videos man. You keep it real unlike those fakes who only rub their successes onto ppls faces. You take the time to show the ins and outs of the reality and remain modest and transparent. Keep up this great work man. Wish you the best in the next journey ahead of you
man, thank you for this video. i was applying for almost 8 months for internships and got nothing but rejections after rejections. until about 2 days ago when i finally landed a JOB! i really like watching your videos and so it was nice to see that i wasn't going this alone. i'm so happy for you, i hope your career flourishes from now on!
They been putting you through it man but glad you stuck with it and got a position! Commented on a video a while back that I had finally gotten an internship after a couple years of trying. Internship turned into a full time position after graduating which is awesome and I’m loving. To anyone reading this don’t ever give up. All it takes is one chance so gotta stay positive.
I feel you man I have nearly a year worth of internship experience and I thought my process would be much easier. After prob 100 or so applications I finally got an interview 😭😭
ive been feeling down lately after applying to so many jobs and not getting any interviews. Your videos remind me that we are all together in this process Thanks and keep it up
dig your videos man, I'm an industrial engineer major who wants a career path in data science. CS was always a challenge but gradually becoming better. keep up the great content brother
@Cristiano Benedetto And you know what's even more demoralizing? Getting to those final steps thinking you are finally making it, fantasizing on how you gonna kick-start all the plans you had for when you get the position, and the things you have in pause right now because you need this to keep moving forward with the rest of your life. And also meeting these talkative and nice recruiters or hiring managers that you meet in a interview round while acing the questions thinking you are killing it and thinking that they are liking and considering you for this position only for then later they reject you with a one line email telling you that they chose another candidate who either has an almost insignificant small advantage over you like he knows or someone leagues about you who worked for faang or something like that. In the end applying for jobs is like performing. You are mounting a whole spectacle to charm and enchant the hiring team with lots of sound and smoke. With lot of style and no substance. They want to see you dance like a monkey and to win you should give them what they want, this is the conclusion I've reached with this experience.
Your hard work and dedication is motivating and inspiring! I am just applying to entry level jobs with a non-traditional background at 24, with a handful of interviews. No job yet, but I still continue working hard and applying after seeing people like you. I have no doubt you will be extremely successful in your career and I look forward to future content from you! Congrats on the internship!
@@nicholast Hi! I just wanted to let you know I got hired for my first dev role! 🎉🎉🎉 I know you've got big things ahead too but I just wanted to share the good news :)
Congrats man! Been following you for a while and I love your videos :) Im hoping to get into coding freelance this summer so it's great seeing you achieve success!
Woo, congrats landing a summer internship in the first round, the grind paid off. I'm going into second cycle - hopefully it's gonna turn out better. Hope to see you in the school gym soon, love the progress you've made 💪💪
Interviewing is a skill as well bro. Keep practicing but as a fellow engineer i hate it and i dont practice. Now that my peers/network know my skills i no longer worry. Always be a 10x engineer / outperform your colleagues. Outperforming doesnt mean more hours btw it means solving the harder problems 😎✊🏽. Keep the good content coming bro
more vlogs would be sick considering your last one. definitely room for improvement editing wise but the overall flow was nice and the content (your life lol) was fun to watch. either way, congrats on the job and looking forward to future vids!
In the time that I first found your channel I myself was motivated from the first video I watched of you to finally start school myself at Full-Sail in their software engineering course. It has been...interesting to say the least but I am hanging in there and glad to see that you're hitting your milestones.
I'm a SWE who got laid off earlier this year and looking as a mid-level has been TOUGH. Everywhere companies are conserving runway and mostly hiring tech leads, staffs, and seniors. Nobody wants to train someone green right now, even though I am able to contribute as mid-level. I can't even begin to imagine how tough it is for new grads right now. It's a bloodbath out here.
Congrats for landing an internship!! But also you just gave me so much stress bc I'm pretty much doomed for Summer 2023 internships if it took you 200 apps when you have 3 internships 😭
Senior here majoring in software dev. I had two internships back to back at Travelport and Intel last year. I graduate this april. I got an interview for a company called Arlo Technologies, wish me luck!
I understand this experience in my own field. I graduated with a C.S. degree, not for coding but more for MSP break/fix things, and it took easily 100+ applications, numerous interviews, many second interviews, and a few third/final interviews, over the course of nearly a year before landing my first job in my field. The problem that we are going to face, respectively, is the sheer volume of applications towards jobs, especially now that remote is a thing. You are against *everyone*, in the world, who many will be either equally as qualified, or even more so, or a hundred other potential reasons why they choose someone else. The only answer to this is just brute force your way in each time. Eventually, the odds will be in you favor.
Nicholas I have strong 5 years in the industry and you have been a joy to watch. If you ever need help with branding/resume writing I'm here to help absolutely free
I'm approaching to the 200th rejection as well. Hope things will work out in the end. Congrats Nick! As a smart, patient and confident guy, you are truly an excellent software engineer!
Congrats! I'm about to graduate, I'm in the application/interview grind while also juggling sickness and a class where everything that can go wrong is going wrong and the professor has no interest in helping.
Every time I hate learning stats/probability I tell myself "this is the closest thing we have to predicting the future " to get myself excited for probability. It kind of works.
Great to see you back. Saw like 2 of your videos randomly a while back and your content is fire. Looking forward for what’s to come on your channel. P.S hope you can land a NY engineering gig at some point. Lots of great places to work in the software space you won’t be disappointed.
You are the one who inspired me to embark on my first serious journey with software development. I'm not legal age yet so I can't really apply for a job, but I'm building some fun semi-portfolio projects rn in hope of landing it someday in the future
Something about hearing others struggle is cathartic to my own failures. The mental game needs to be strong. Just remember the Ls are the road to the dub!
Laughing at the part on Operating Systems course. This is like a whole different world when coming from the software engineering courses. But in hindsight, this is really useful stuff to understand how to write better algorithms. And it could be a fundamental if you decide to go into drivers or writing your own OS one day.
Its a tough time right now but it has always been like that through out history. Having how many X rejections down the line, imagine that you were just born again today and attack your day as a new person; same body but new person. Don't let your past define you because you are a new person everyday
So insecure, only posting whenever life is good haha. Could've posted that blog of when you failed, could've posted about your struggles of finding a job. Nope! Only post after you get the internship, love it. True role model, only want to be transparent whenever something goes your way again. Frying pan is infinitely better.
With all honesty, I spent 6 years studying CS. Half way through I realized I wasn’t passionate about programming but I was too deep in to quit. I was chasing the field purely because I thought it would bring me financial gain without any consideration as to whether or not it would make me happy. Now I work doing administrative work so that I can earn enough to pursue my true passion which is baking. I had to find ways to still implement my programming skills so that it wouldn’t have been a waste of time, so I solo develop Android apps on the side.
Graduated with no internships because they got cancelled due to COVID. Now here I am 10 months after graduation with 0 work experience, at least 300 rejections, and still haven't been able to find a job. Feel at my lowest right now.
