my brother has a tesla model Y and in my opinion it is sweet in the sense that it is fast as far as take off but from what I can tell the build quality is very poor considering what he paid for the car and 2 weeks into having it he had to bring it in for warranty because they were still installing known bad sensors into the cars for the heat and cooling system even after they came out with a new sensor to fix the problem
Now we got to check out that Corolla Hybrid...My wife wants to get an electric but I told her we might need to wait and start with leasing a new Hybrid instead like the Toyota Corolla Hybrid
If I were ever looking at 2 cars of the same model, I would not get the one with the sunroof unless it was substantially cheaper for the same or better condition
My first car when I was 17 was a 1994 Corolla. I can attest that thing was a tank. Growing up on the streets of Mobile,AL we put that thing through absolute hell. I ran it out of gas several times and it always started back up again and again eventually getting me to a station. I even coasted in a few times. Hopped curbs, got t boned, on road, off road, even lost it downtown for a few weeks. The damn thing wouldn’t die.
From what I can see, the '22 Corolla is about the same size and weight as the all time great '92 to '96 Camry, but it's 4 cylinder engine delivers 10 additional MPGs
Car models generally get bigger when a new one is released. It’s said they get bigger as their customers get bigger. The Corolla used to be the smallest Toyota sold till it started getting bigger. So Toyota brought out the Starlet and then the Yaris.
@@kdegraa I feel like it has to do with safety upgrades mostly and making a quiter smoother ride, I have a 2020 corolla se and a 2003 camry and as you said they are basically the same exact size
@@kdegraa Yeah, their customers have certainly gotten fatter... I mean bigger. Maybe that's the real reason the masses prefer a 1/2 ton truck/suv, something that can handle the fleshy load without bottoming out.
I bought the XSE trim last year and have loved it. I love the look of it and I expect it to get at least 300,000 miles out of it. 10/10 would recommend.
I drove a 2021 Corolla for a couple of weeks as a loaner for my RAV4 which was being fixed after I was rear-ended. I was impressed by the ride quality of the Corolla. Wouldn't have thought that it would be so well-dampered and smooth, but it was. Amazing for an "economy" car.
it does ride noce, my mom has one and i drove it for a little, and men does it drive great, im talking about everything, from the smooth steering wheel, quiet engine and trans, good and smooth acceleration, and quiet cabin. the corolla for what it is, is a great sedan.
I had a 2009 Toyota Corolla for 6 years and totaled it a month ago….I was so impressed with it I just bought another last night!!! It’s a 2014 Corolla in great condition! Charcoal gray, love it!!! Toyotas are great cars with high manufacturing standards!!!
I have the 2021 Corolla SE and I find it’s quite the car! The 2 tone interior, handling and acceleration are very good for the price. It could be quieter but it’s not too bad. It’s comfortable and roomy for 2 old folks and pretty great gas mileage. As for looks, they did a great job. It’s paid for and a keeper!
My review on a 2021 corolla SE I bought new. Great vehicle, rides very well. My mpg goes from 38 mpg combined city and highway in winter to 44 combined city/highway in the summer. I also drive conservatively, so keep that in mind. The oil is easy to change (no paper filter, easy access to drain pan) but do NOT trust a 10000 mile oil change, I'd recommend 6500 to 8500 miles as after that the oil is jet black-I want my engine to last 500,000 miles. Trunk is deceptively roomy, I cam put a full sized bicycle in there and shut the door. No electric issues, and stupid car warnings can be shut off manually. It also has some getup and go, but I wouldn't call it a corvette. Would recommend. Sunroofs are stupid, that's the one thing I would take out if I could.
@@captinbeyond I did a little looking online and it looks like there is an auto-shutoff feature, but it will only shut the engine off after 30 minutes of idle operation. I haven't had this issue.
Meh. A car is a car. Even the luxury cars get boring when you get used to them. Then you're looking for the next big thing and even THAT will get boring. If you find a good car, decent looking, good shape, take it. To me there's nothing more exciting than reliability so I don't have to deal with the "excitement" of pissing my money away on repairs!! Saving money!! That's what I call EXCITEMENT!!👍😄
I absolutely love my 2022 Toyota Corolla hatchback. Fun to drive, comfortable and amazing on gas mileage. Did a little trip on rural roads driving it nicely and got 50MPG from this 2.0L engine, Seriously! Those are pretty much hybrid numbers.
I have a 2017 Corolla SE and I think I would miss the hand break because it’s really fun putting it in sport mode and spinning around on the ice in the winter
@DeeDee I prefer older cars. People whine about them being unsafe, well, I got a reliable safe model, so there’s no problem at all. What kind of 99’ car do you have?
The 2017 and earlier Corolla SE was really rough. The 2018 SE/XSE and later is much better, because Toyota went from a torsion bar to a multilink on the rear axle. My 2020 averaged 40.0 MPG, often hitting 43 to 44 MPG on the highway. Drive safely and sanely, and you'll get way better than the rated 35 MPG. Avoid the Corolla versions with the 1.8 liter engine. It's underpowered, and revs a lot, just to make a little power. Think the Corolla is boring? Fine, buy an unreliable car, and you'll get excitement aplenty - when you're presented with repair bill after repair bill. And Scotty, I loved the sunroof. I loved having it open early in the morning and late in the evening. My Camry doesn't have a sunroof, and I really miss it. To each his own...
My girl has ‘15 Corolla. 140,000Mi on the dash never had an issue, fluid changes, breaks, tires & some wipers have needed to be replaced as usual. Great, reliable cars. Might need to replace a CV Axle soon tho but when you live in Northern PA you can expect those things
I am very hopeful to get a Toyota Corolla, but as a Touring Sports. I live in Europe, and they’re very popular here. Toyota sold 74,000+ units of the Corolla Touring Sports in Europe last year. There’s also a GR Sport trim which looks great.
The Hybrid version is getting a refresh in a sorts for 2023, and will offer the same 169 HP, will have 5 available trims, and will also offer AWD. Would honestly consider an XSE or SE AWD Hybrid with the way gas prices are. The 2022 only offering the LE trim kills the Hybrid imo.
I bought a 2020 Corolla Nightshade Hatchback a few years ago and it's been a fantastic vehicle. It is super fun to drive and reliable as hell. Love it. This Apex reminds me of that vehicle.
It's funny that this video popped up on my RU-vid, I just picked up a 2021 SE APEX just last week, love the car so far, and, I was lucky enough to get it with the 6 speed manual transmission which is very light, I kind of wish it was a tad heavier. And thanks for the thumbs up from Scott. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside 😀
I can't wait for the GR Corolla to come out, 3 cylinder turbo making 300hp. Might not get great mpg and like Scotty says turbos are the killers of gas engines but, it's a Toyota and fingers crossed it'll be a good one.
The 2022 Corolla SE is available with a manual transmission according to Toyota's website. "Drivetrain 2.0L 4-Cyl. Dynamic-Shift CVT or 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) Front-Wheel Drive (FWD)"
Recently I have bought a 06 V6 4 Runner to replace my Ford Ranger. The difference in quality is astonishing. I have never been a fan of American cars to begin with. (Personally I think German and Japanese cars are the only option) The 4Runner feels and drives like a tank where as the Ranger felt like all the wheels would shoot off on the highway.
I just picked up a new 2022 SE in ruby red at MSRP of $25,700. I had to put $500 down and waited a month. It also came from Japan, got real lucky with that. If the VIN starts with a J it's Japan, if it starts with a 5 it's Mississippi.
To Me, it doesn’t matter if it’s zippy or not. The Corolla is still a good car. Did you know Scotty that there’s a hybrid Corolla available? Maybe you should check it out.
Gee Scotty when I saw the header "I Finally Got One.." I thought you were talking GR Corolla! I think you can still get base L trim with the mechanical parking brake and 1.8. Maybe no longer in 2023 Y? Problem there, is with the 15" wheels the steering can be too light and twitchy. The Apex could be more of a lease-end nightmare if those fancy wheels and lower flanges get scrapped. Then you'd really hate the wife... Wonder how much those black out badges are if peeled?
I have a 2019 Corolla XSE hatchback. The ride is rough but I expected that. Absolutely LOVE the car and 38-40mpg. BUT there is one major flaw in my opinion with the moonstone (off-white) interior like the one you drove. The flat dash angle under both driver's and passengers side air vents along with the light color interior creates a very dangerous reflection in the side mirrors on a sunny day. You really have to trust the blind spot monitoring system and physically look behind before switching lanes. Anyone else notice this?
I do, the positioning of the seat is in a way that the beam between the driver and rear door makes it difficult to see a vehicle, at least in comparison to my old Corolla.
I got the se nightshade edition hatchback, made in japan, idk if the sedans are. I like it but the low profile tires are more challenging to drive on the road especially now with all the construction going on, already dinged up a rim but having a black paint marker in glove compartment helps hide it. Also, scotty keeps talking about the fancier corolla but the apex is supposedly the fancy corolla. they discontinued apex for 2023. I also don't think he paid 27k for it, he just didn't want to get shamed by scotty, these go for 31k and up plus tax.
I don't want a bumpy noisey ride since we have bad bumpy not maintained roads here. Which Corolla model offers a quiet smooth ride? Is there a luxury model of a Corolla? This Corolla Apex will last a long time like 250,000+ miles with that CVT TRANSMISSION? Aren't CVT TRANSMISSIONS to be avoided as CVTS don't last long and must be replaced with a new CVT costing thousands of dollars 🤑 and cannot be repaired? Plus CVTS Are not fun to drive like a manua transmission? For fun driving what about going with 6 spd. manual transmission but in a Corolla that has a smoother quiet ride? Again which Corolla Model? A SE COROLLA with 6 spd. manual transmission ?🤔
Some of them are built really well and some aren’t. My mom had a 2014 Sentra with the CVT and it went out around Christmas of 2020 at 95,000 miles. Those weren’t any good. Fortunately, our credit union gave us a power train warranty the year before and covered all of the $3,500 bill. So they still have it lmao the Ford Fivehundred CVTs were really good too apparently, but they were slow as Hell. So I’d just wait a while to see if it’s any good for a particular car. Me personally though, I like regular manuals or planetary gear autos. And dual clutch transmissions too, as long as they’re well made.
Toyota CVTs are very reliable. Aisin built. They are used in Corollas all around the world, Asia, Africa wherever harshest environments and with little maintenance. Yet these transmissions go without problems for hundreds of thousands of miles. Plus these newer Corollas have a physical launch gear so even less wear and tear on the cvt. Don't be so paranoid.
@@bradyakubovic2550 would even vouch for a 10th gen civic cvt. One of my family got those with 200,000 miles and the car has been beaten like crazy. Looks like trash outside but the engine and transmission go without a hitch. I was actually surprised when I asked to start it to see if it made any clunking noises or the transmission slipped but there was none. So yeah, Hondas and Toyota's. Very reliable and a safe bet.
I love my apex. I bought it brand new in 2021, mine is limited edition tho, blacked out version only 6,000 made. Rides nice, it’s a nice stiff ride with the sports tuned suspension. I can attest to the 35mpg on the highway that’s exactly what I get. I was SO HAPPY I bought it.
I had a 2012 Corolla I recently sold with 111,000 miles for $7400. Best car ever owned, never any issues just regular maintenance. I’m a get another Corolla as soon as they do something else with that screen
Sunroofs... because automakers stopped making cigarette windows. You remember: those triangular swivel-latch deals you could flick ashes out of and it didn't blow back in your face. Anyway, I'm with you Scotty: I do not want ANY vehicle sunroof equipped - annoyance and trouble awaits.
Reminds me of my 04 MR2- common 1.8L 4, 6 speed manual (upgraded from the 5), decent power but not what you would call fast, Toyota reliability and if it’s nice in the evening and I want the roof down, just put it down. I agree sunroofs in hot climates rarely if ever get opened.
I got a 2004 corolla is been with me since day 1 and it has more than 400,000 miles on and still running, I do maintenance my self now to safe money and learn more ...........
I really love my 2020 Toyota corolla it rides great and I think it even looks great front end looks similar to the corolla in this video my 2020 also has the 2.0L and the sport mode the only thing I do not like about my 2020 is the synthetic shifting they have programmed into the computer my corolla has a CVT Transmission. I wish there was a way to turn off the synthetic sifting
Currently in a 22 Corolla LE loaner while car in shop. Has 5k on the clock. I absolutely hate it. CVT transmission jerky shifts especially when using cruise control. Very loud engine when you accelerate. Tires really loud. Overly heavy steering wheel feel. Really gutless...nothing quick about it. The seats are very comfortable. Really the only thing I like about it.
If you are cheap which I am buy a used Corolla. I took Scotties advice and bought a 2009 with 80k on it a year ago. Now it's approaching 100k. The only problem I have had with it is a leaky trunk. I put a new seal on still leaks. You look a the trunk lid it appears to have a slight bend.
My wife has a 2020 Corolla SE with the 2.0 liter and it has a sporty look, especially the wheels. Handles like a sports car, but does have a rough ride. She averages 36 mpg, but I’ve gotten 42 mpg on some 30 mile trips when I drive it. She did have the dealer install Katzkin leather when she bought it new and it feels high quality… not cheap.
The 1.8 is so weak, especially with the CVT. It is scary to merge with Semis around you. Rented those a few times, since they are popular with rental companies.
Man comparing the CVT’s from Nissan to Toyota is like night and day. I am a manager at a Dominos and we use 2021 Nissan Sentra S’s as our company cars and I drove them from when they got off the lot at less than 100 miles to now having 20k+ miles. I will say that overtime the Sentras feel weak and the get up and go power are absolute garbage. There was even a point where one of my drivers went up to me and told me that one of the cars struggled to get over 40 miles an hour. That car had 18k miles on the clock and lord almighty am I not surprised. With the way Toyota designed their CVT’s, it brings hope that one day other companies will take inspiration and make better CVT’s in the future.
Just cuz it's a Corolla doesn't mean it's going to go 400,000 mi. I really highly doubt that because my problem is it's still a late model baby. It's still a new car. I don't care if that's a Toyota badge or a Fiat badge. The things got direct injection, low tension rings. It runs on 0w 16. I'm sorry but only time will tell if they can still last as long as they used to because we don't know yet. We haven't got enough time under the belt of those dynamic force engines yet... Now if the computer can adjust for a down GDI system and allow it to just run off the port injection in the case of a failure, that'd be awesome cuz you know the GDI going to fail first.... theoretically
My Toyota came with crappy Toyo Proxes tires. After I changed them to BF Goodrich Force, the handling was much better. The tires played a major role in upgraded driving handling.
I got a Mini Cooper JCW and a Mercedes SLK 320. The Mini rides rough off the freeway and the Mercedes rides smooth on all road surfaces. Scotty, is so correct about suspension systems.
I saved alot of money and got me a white freshly painted 2009 Vibe. Nice car.. Nice Hatchback. $4000. God helped me find it. Driven a year and no problems.
We scored a 14 year old matrix from my neighbor. After putting some work into it makes a great car for my teenager. It already has some bumps and bruises but that’s ok..
Man those samurais in fact where horrible on high speed but man what a great vehicle it was. Till this day ir a very popular classic jewel in Puerto Rico. Folks love them for their versatility and how easy they are to work on, not mentioning the off road experience they offer. Really wish the jimny would’ve been built sooner.
Toyota Corolla are really impressive! They drive and ride far better than you might guess and gas mileage is very good. My aunt drove one for 19 years and it ran so well when she traded it in for a new one, the salesman bought it for his mother-in-law. Maybe one of the best cars in the world.
