I love my 2019 HRV (EX, 2WD). Great gas mileage, economical to maintain, a lot of cargo space for its size, and it has a comfortable ride. I'm in my 50s and have driven it on 10-hour road trips through several states with zero mechanical or comfort issues. The only negative for me is the weak engine. My situation is similar to the owner of the HRV in Scotty's video in that I came from driving a BMW for 11 years before getting the HRV, so it did take awhile for me to get used to the lack of get-up-n-go. I hate the fact that all the V6 engines are going away. I had a 13 V6 Accord for nine years and recently replaced it with a 23 Pilot. The main reason I bought it was because it still had a straight V6 in it. I am single with no children and have been driving nothing but Honda for the last thirty years. And it is a disgrace I have limited choices when looking for sedans with V6 power. TBH, there are no Honda sedans with V6 motors. I am not a fan of turbo engines or 4 cylinder engines. I understand that these aforementioned types are cheaper to drive but I detest slow moving vehicles. The Pilot is a good comfortable drive that has some kick to it. I just wonder how long Honda will continue to put V6s in the Pilots and Odyssey’s and go the way of the 4 cylinder turbo engine.😬😬😬

When I bought my 2019 Nissan 370Z new back at the end of 2018 the salesman tried to quote me a price that was about $6K above the MSRP. When I traced the history of the car I saw that it had been sitting on his lot for about 4 months, so I told him to either come back down to Earth on the price or I was going to walk. I settled on the MSRP and was happy to get exactly the car I wanted without getting ripped off badly. The quality of materials, plus the fit and finish were top notch on an all Japanese car made with Japanese parts, so I was more than happy and the car has not disappointed me to date. At 52K miles the engine uses maybe 2 to 3 oz of oil between my 3K mile oil changes. In looking into the valve cover through the oil filler opening, I can see no sludge or discoloration on any of the valve train components. The metal looks new and as if it has been scrubbed clean. On my last oil change I sent out an oil sample for analysis and all the wear metals were very low, with very low levels of chemical contamination of stuff like acids, fuel or water. The exhaust tips still show practically no soot residue, even though I have had the air/fuel ratios enriched in the low to mid rpm range for better throttle response and more torque, as a result of my dyno tuning session.

I was lucky with my 2006 Audi A4, which had the good manners to run perfectly for 16 years, then electrically destruct all at once. So I didn't get strung along putting thousands into it every couple of years. The HR-V interior, while not as luxe as the Audi, is very understated in the same way, and has buttons and knobs for everything important. I love regular gas, and not waiting for the turbo to blow up. Not a fan of CVT, but at this price point that's what you get. We hope it stays as boring as a Civic.

When Michelin released the CrossClimate+ tires in the mid 2010's they created a new class of tires (All Weather tires) that have characteristis of both a snow tire and an all season tire. They improved the tire and named the 2nd generation tire: CrossClimate2 tires. In fact in some tests against some snow tires, the Michelin CrossClimate2 perform better than some dedicated snow tires !!!!

With the CrossClimate2 you do not need to change tires twice a year.

Scotty, thanks for your videos. Always entertaining. I have a 2017 civic sedan touring. I wish they would make an HRV touring. Stick in the 1.5 turbocharged, leather, navigation, the few other bells and whistles of the 2017, and make it as light as possible. I think that would sell like hot cakes and be a fantastic car.

I bought a 2018 Civic Hatchback LX, 1.5 turbo, 6 speed, brand new 5 years ago and it's a great car - 40mpg on the highway and zips around town with that turbo torque at lower rpms. You're right about making the HRV better, but Honda just does that to the CRV (1.5 turbo) then prices them in the 30k+ range now. They want the HRV to be "cheap", for the budget folks.

I really like the Honda HR-V as it reminds me of the size the old "compact" SUV's used to be like the 2005 Rav4 I had. I currently have a 2016 Honda Accord LX but if I was to get something that was more practical the HR-V would be the way to go for me personally.

So many people complain about this HR-V not having enough power, often without driving it, or even would buy it if they had the money and are going by the numbers on paper. But that's not what this is made for. It's basically a Civic SUV if you need more cargo capacity and height than a Civic Hatchback. I was looking at getting a Boost Blue Pearl Civic Sport Hatchback, but an Urban Grey Pearl HR-V Sport fits what I would want and need even better. But if I could have both, I would, and just might get the Civic Sport with the 6 Speed Manual, if I could find one. If I didn't get one of these, I would look into getting a Camry SE. That has all the sportiness without paying several grand more for lots of options I don't want anyway, like the sunroof and other things. Likewise, for getting the Civic Sport Hatchback or HR-V Sport over the Sport Touring or EX-L. If you don't want the extra options and equipment of the top trims, the Sport trim has all the basic goodies for much less, so you can use the money saved for all the OEM and aftermarket accessories, tinted windows, and maybe upgrade the stereo speakers and amps later. Lots of people are not tuners or racers, but still like the looks and handling of factory sport trim vehicles for an affordable price as opposed to the top trim loaded more performance oriented trims. I live in Honolulu, HI, so a FWD will be fine, a little faster, and cost less, plus maintenance down the road and having to replace all four tires if one goes bad. The FWD even has a Snow mode and Hill Descent mode, and the snow mode may even work in sand that we have here. And the Sport Mode is in the shifter, when in Normal driving mode. And unlike the Civic, the HR-V does not have the dreaded auto start/stop feature. Like Scotty, I prefer the N/A 2.0L engine over the turbo/GDI 1.5 any day, for its reliability, dependability, and longevity. But it would be nice if they came out with a Sport Touring with the detuned Type R Turbo 2.0L engine. Regarding the lack of power, by comparison, my 1984 Buick Grand National was 3500 lbs. with a 3.8L turbo and automatic transmission with 200 HP and 300 ft/lbs torque in stock form, could smoke the rear tires for 50' and was faster than the Corvette that year, without the intercooler from the 1986/87 and it was considerably fast back then at about the same as the HR-V Sport FWD with a N/A engine half the size. K Tuner has a mod for this engine in the Civic that can bring it up to, or higher power than the non Si 1.5L turbo engine, even more so with a cold air intake, aftermarket exhaust and other mods. It just may need to be recalibrated for the HR-V Sport. Eibach coil springs could lessen body roll if desired. Lots of Civic mods may fit and work on the HR-V , as it is basically a Civic for the most part. The alternative for the same price of the K-Tuner is the Pedal Commander that can be easily installed or removed without altering the computer that has many variables settings to improve throttle response. But the average buyer of the HR-V will like it essentially OEM as it is. I think with a few exceptions, Honda did great work on the Civic and HR-V for what it was created to be. For the performance minded Civic fans here that don't know, my friend Jason Miller at 727Project on RU-vid and IG has a nice black 10th Generation Civic Si, but his 11th Generation Civic Sport Sedan aka Blue is probably the nicest, most customized and modified new Civic out there, and maybe the most popular. He has spent so much on that car, added and switching out mods, accessories and customized body parts and posted video as a guide for many others. So the potential for performance on the Civic and HR-V is there. Just don't expect factory performance to always come OEM in mainstream vehicles for the masses. But they are designed for the aftermarket to do so, for those that want it, and whatever they are willing to spend and put into it. As always drive safely, and always consider reliability, dependability and longevity if this is going to be the daily driver for yourself, and maybe others.

I've been noticing about this Honda HR-V 2023 has very bad suspensions. I saw people climbing aboard this car And I saw this car get it's car height, lowered with very weak suspensions because of 4 passengers- alongside of the driver obviously. Which makes this car not do so well with full adult passengers all seated on each seat in this Honda model

Toyota and Honda have the same problem with rings in their modern engines - they ALL say you have to change the oil religiously often. Toyota TOLD ME to get the base engine in the Corolla as it was not as powerful or as fuel efficient but - he looked to the garage and said, I can tell you the modern motor is similar to other brands who had to use those designs for good mileage - the 1.8L will be a far better motor if you keep the car a long time.
