Taiga has grown to be one of my favorites. I love sampling it into mpclive and turning those sounds into poly synth. Holy smokes its almost too good

its a tough synth but the sound of it is astounding acthually. filters and oscillators are analog heaven

@@amberelmmusic took me a while. Until I listened to some old recordings of it weeks later I didn’t get a full perspective on how beautiful the sound of it is. You pay a bit more for a lot of details that can open up huge sonic doorways and since the oscillators and filter are so good sounding it’s all just massive at the end.

Those are some great sounds, and I'm glad you managed to get a setup with it you enjoy. To be honest though the best part about it is those smashing button colors.

very much apopreciate your video. i have the taiga since one year, but just recently dared to dive into patching and deeper programming. i am really looking for more patching tipps and tutorials.

Thanks! It can be a pretty intimidating synth. But also create some really unique sounds. Until I make another video on it, check out Jorb on RU-vid. He’s got a really great review and deep dive on it! Thanks for watching…and Happy patching.

I am running out of desk space very fast but otherwise NiftyKeyz would be great to add. Nice video, thank you.

That’s funny…nifty keyz was literally the straw that broke the camels back in my studio. I had to re organize everything to make room for it.

If it was worth it, good job, but I even have to get rid of gear I like because my room is too cramped. But this device with modules inside looks awesome.

The Hydrasynth is an excellent, excellent digital synth. It is a monster. I have a desktop and love it. It works great on its own and with a DAW. I have a Take 5 as well and I kind of gravitate to the Hydrasynth more -- I love the Prophet sound!

Thanks for watching. Even though I went with the nifty keys. I’m still really eyeing the Hydrasynth. Can’t decide between desktop or explorer…or waiting a WHILE and getting the deluxe.

I've been eyeing the Nifty Keys, but got distracted with a loaned (and subsequently purchased) Meowsic keyboard, which isn't as versatile but quite affordable.

The the meowmusix keyboard the one that looks like a cat? I really recommend the nifty keys. Its a lot of fun.
@Bills_Place

@@amberelmmusic Yes, sorry, a $25 toy piano with fake cat sounds isn't really in the same league as the two you mentioned. If I went the NiftyKeys route, I see Doepfer has several "quad" modules (such as the VCA you have here) that would make 4 note polyphony doable, and it's tempting.
@amberelmmusic
@amberelmmusic 4 месяца назад
The great thing is it can be in the same league with effects, sampling, etc. it’s all about how you use it.

I have a question @Amber Elm Music that I hope is not stupid but I'm still learning: I've got Pittsburgh's Lifeforms SV-1 And like the Taiga it's has all the basic modules included (VCF, VCA, Envelope, output module etc.) Why is it also desired to have another filter (Eudemonia) and another amplifier (Doepfer A-135-2) ??? Thanks!
@amberelmmusic
@amberelmmusic 4 месяца назад
It’s not a stupid question at all. And having those other modules aren’t necessary. The reason I have them is to patch the taiga in a way that I can play it with 3 voice paraphony. Basically sending each oscillator to its own envelope, then to a channel of the mixer/vca (the doepfer) to run all of that back into a filter. Having more vcas, or more filters just opens up ways to route things. If you want a more detailed explanation, or have a more specific question, let me know and we can email back and forth.

P.S. The dog barks from 12:12 kinda sounds synchronistic, were you recording Taiga, etc from a mic, or was your mic on at the same time?

Haha…it was from the mic I was used for the voice over. It was an artistic choice to leave them in lol.

It can be frustrating for sure, but there’s also something really awesome about it. I like that they have to be destroyed sometimes because 1) I appreciate them while I’m playing with them and 2) i have to be pretty honest with myself whether or not it’s good enough to record before I destroy it.

@@amberelmmusicThese days, once i turn the equipment on, 'record' is the first button i press, where i proceed to jam away & am often pleasantly surprised when listening back with fresh ears, which you can then treat as 'samples'... I hardly recorded anything in the past & regret this...

I wont sell my Hydrasynth desktop, but it is way too complicated from my brain 🧠 I cant do crosswords or read maps I have dyslexia I cant read charts. Im far from stupid but I get better sounds out of cheaper synths. I have an modal Argon 8M arriving tomorrow so the Hydrasynth can stay under its cover. Ssme with my Summit, I grab my Roland system1 first. Im no synth wizard you might conclude. Big bad Boo ! My take 5 is just about manageable, all the rest are under dust covers
@amberelmmusic
@amberelmmusic 4 месяца назад
Don’t give up on it just yet. Sometimes when I can’t figure out how something is supposed to work I just start fiddling with knobs and buttons to see what I get…it can still be pretty fun. Anyways thanks for watching.
@jaderington
@jaderington 4 месяца назад
Good advice, thanks. My Argon 8 did arrive and it is much easier than the Hydrasynth. I rotate my synth use so it probably has to do with being a master of none. I'm lucky to have the choice though 😊

The keyed on the Take 5 is unnecessarily good. Like using it to control other synths

@@user-ec1wq9os3dI always feel a bit forceful with the aftertouch, you have to push quite hard but it does feel premium. They are Italian fatar keys apparently.
