On this episode we get my first car which is a 1964 impala back on the road after I purchased it back a few months ago. We put the interior back together and rebuild the ignition system. The car has 55k original miles on it. It has a 283 ci engine with a two speed Powerglide transmission. Thanks for watching.

I hate to say it, but I hope you keep this mostly stock (save the brakes for safety). It's just too nice. Also, it's good to have at least one quiet and beautiful ride for fancy dinners and funerals and the like. Oh and your editing has gotten really strong (good use of cutaways to keep the continuity)!

In 1975 I bought a 64 Impala for $25 buck from a friend going in the Navy. This by far was and still is my favorite. Same 283 automatic with console on the floor and bucket seats. I have not found another that affordable but just bought a 68 Impala Custom Classic on the cheap. After a winter of body and engine work I'm painting in and will be my daily driver in less than a month. I'm happy for you man.

That’s cool you got your first car back I’m happy for you. I’m a few years older and still have the car I bought when I was 16 a 72 super beetle. It wasn’t my first car, I paid $50 for a 68 beetle on my 13 birthday but never did anything with it. Then at 15 bought a 69 Catalina conv, but kept the 72 all these years. Even today with the Catalina being worth 10x what the super is I’d still keep my 72 beetle. By age 17 I had replaced almost every component on my super beetle myself apart from the transmission. So many memories with that car.

That’s a badass car brings back memories of my dads car. He used to have a 1964 Impala SS was the original owner of the car. Bought it right off the show room floor. When we got older my brother got the car from my dad. And my dad said only on one condition you keep it in the family. My brother traded the car fir a stupid reason. But I am trying to find one that I could have to just cruise around like that as well. That’s awesome and keep up the awesome videos love the show

David, that is awesome to find and now drive the car that started your life long car affair. We are all better for it. On fixing the A/C, you would do better to rebuild it with an externally smaller compressor and current freon; replacing the R 12 in that Impala will be harder than new fenders for a Hudson Hornet. It can be had- at prices you will not believe. I think you may be able to re use your present evaporator if the system has always had pressure in it. If it has been open to oxygen and moisture you will need to replace it too. I've had three Impalas- beginning with a '62.I traded a '59 Buick Convertible for it. That is a great car for a Power Tour or a Drag and Drive as a cruiser trail vehicle. Thirty nine , you say? Sounds like Jack Benny's age!

I regretted selling my 64 SS Impala. Somehow it started life with a 327 2 barrel and when I got the car we found a Corvette manifold with AFB installed that with dual exhaust with glass-packs and she scooted pretty good. She was painted a kind of a candy apple blue a really dark blue. American Racing mags with tiger paws with red stripes. It originally was light metallic blue with the light blue interior with bucket seats

I know you do not want to mess with the whole coolness vibe the car has, BUT I am pretty sure that a 200-4R will bolt in place of the PG. 2 extra gears plus OD would make that car a long road trip killer.
