The problem is mechanics are underpaid timewise to do service work especially and definitely for warranty work a tire rotation oil change only pays a half hour there’s no time to be looking around and studying things they are doing the work quickly while trying to sell other work. Also many of these technicians are newer and untrained it takes years of working on these things to fully know what to look for.

Yes as Diesel technician I once had to go on a road call on the middle of a rain storm for a brand new looking Michelin Steer tire on a Diesel motor home, It blew the sidewall out for some reason all the steel cables inside the tire had rust on them I don't know exactly why, Maybe a small hole not all the way through allowed Northern Wisconsin salt water to get in not sure, The customer was Not expecting a Failure like this and yes it did have small dry rotting cracks in it as well but looked new otherwise, At least it failed go straight down the four lane highway because in a sharp corner he would've probably rolled it.

Michelin, Goodyear, Continental, and Bridgestone are actually really good tires. It really depends on how and where the cars were driven. I had 10 years old continental tires and have virtually no crack but the cheap Primewell tires starts to have crack after 3 years because it is parked outside, not in the garage.

Yep, dry rot is a big problem in RV tires because they will do that way sooner than treads wearing out. To help protect from the UV sun, many of us cover the tires while they are parked which does help make them a last a few years longer. Good catch on required maintenance items....I also have little flashlights and inspect our vehicles, "What would Ahmed look for???" :-)

@@coloradoboo1071 RV tires are not allowed to be used after 6 years old. That's actually pretty general law in most countries (western). By law, many trailers and RVs max 6 years old to be legally driven on the road. But I think only for trailers that are allowed at max 60mph. But I personally does not agree about that because some tires can be still good if it was not under the sun for many years.

Crazy, but I actually had my sway bar break. Front passenger side, by the mount on frame. It made it 18 years on my '99 Camry. Was going up a steep incline at an angle, that corner first, slowly, and heard a popping sound. Got one at the salvage yard in nice shape. I was able to get it out the donor car and install it without removing anything, like the steering mechanism. Shop is looking NICE !!!!! Don't think you're far from where I'm at, Bridgeview, Il. I always wondered where I'd bring my " baby " IF she broke down. I think that's been answered.
@megahurts2
@megahurts2 2 года назад
I wonder if that crashed caused the spare tire to hit the sway bar, consequently bending it some. Also as someone who does the service on my grandma's Ford Escape and her ATVs...I sadly find a lot of mistakes left behind by whatever shops she's taken these things to get oil changes previously. Bolts missing/stripped out etc or oil filters on WAY too tight.

Vehicles there for a service ,it’s always good to investigate anything that looks unusual, to me it looks like the work was done pretty good I’d hardly call that a major accident. FYI there are a few sway bars that need to be replaced the Chevy impala mid 2000s is one of them they just break in half the ends crack off them,They are hollow in the ends are stamped flat the salt gets in them and breaks one of the ends off. I’ve replaced a few of them now. All that damage in the back means is that they could’ve backed into something low,If it was pushed in the entire rear end they would total the vehicle out.I had a friend back into a tree stump he did similar damage no body damage on top but damage underneath.

One of my Pirelli P7 tires just lost air for no reason last week while I was sitting in the parking lot. It was made in 2017 but only had 10-15k mikes on it. The sidewall gave up and developed a huge tear. All the air went out in 2 seconds. This was an expensive tire. I realize now it’s better to buy cheap tires if you don’t drive much. I had cheap tires in the past and they performed just as good. The only difference was that the generic brand lasted 20k miles.

Bought my daughter more expensive tires for her car . They were 90k miles . They got to 45k and checked and had micro cracks . The tires were 4 years old . I went to the tire store place for the warranty and said the tires were to old . I asked the manager why pay extra for a higher milage tire if age declines a warranty ? He said it's only worth it if you drive many miles . For my daughter driving 10k a year it was not worth paying the extra price for a higher milage tire . Now I exclusively buy budget tires . I think they are 40k for the most part but as we know those warranties are pro rated and have little meaning .

After my car sat for a long while, I put it back on the road in 2016 and got it ready for a fast x-country move. Needless to say, I was pretty stressed with everything else. Fortunately, my years-long specialist mechanic got it road-ready within two weeks, and the shop that put on the previous tires with still-low mileage told me they had dry-rot and needed replacement. So I did what they said - because when you find people (like AWD TCCN here) who you can trust, esp. when it comes to safety, listen to them!

That looks like tread separation about to happen. A couple of years ago my brother thought he got a great deal on his newer Mustang. I showed him how to tell it was in an accident. It's been a good car but CarFax didn't have any info on that accident when he bought it.

I will say one thing, all aluminum is not the same. The block may be a different alloy than the trans. 6061 for example is much more corrosion resistant than 7071, although 7071 is much stronger and more expensive. Now they may well be the same alloy, but engineers make these decisions based on the cost/benefit ratio. Also, I replaced the swaybar on my car with a thicker one to tighten up the handling, the car has never been in an accident.

I’m confused. Toyota owners manual does not suggest changing the transmission fluid. Why, (being that you say to change it)?

The transmission fluid of your Toyota or Lexus should be replaced each 35k miles.

If you go to a dealership and ask them to change it, they will. There's a drain and fill port for a reason. There is no such thing as "lifetime" fluid and around 60-100k miles, depending on what you're comfortable with, it's never a bad idea to change it out. Of course there are cars with many more miles on the original fluid but I personally just like knowing that I have new fluids in my vehicle.

Is there a "time" component like there is for engine oil on low mileage cars? Like 35,000 miles OR xx years?
