This project ended up taking me 4 days with 1 major mistake and for a total cost of almost exactly $2500. Let me show off my first DIY tiny house build and hopefully inspire you to take on a similar project of your own.

I love how you first introduced the compound miter saw and then proceeded not to use it. 😂 But I do understand they are intimidating at first. Super fun to watch you build this, I’ve been thinking of building a cabin for my NM land. ❤

You should man in NM depending on where most counties have really relaxed building codes, even if you do break a few codes here and there nobody ever seemed to care unless youre trying to sell the property

I want to do this by myself. My family laughed at me when i told them. Im glad someone else is doing it alone, too who doesnt have experience. Thanks for showing! Im surprised you didnt add more straight lumbar pieces to connect the beams, or add layers to make more weather proof.

I really loved this video- I feel like most folks who post this kind of stuff come off super experienced and they make it look so much easier than it really is- seeing someone who is not so experienced and is totally honest about his mistakes and learning the hard way is refreshing, and makes it look and feel a lot more approachable for the average person which is awesome.

Looks like you had a great time building that! Don’t worry about the mistakes. I’m on my second A-frame and I’m making all kind of mistakes. The pros make mistakes. Each project will get better and better with the experience that comes with those mistakes. Thank you for sharing.

10:15 japanese saw you cut-force forward, so more square and easy (because not have to push). Quality are expensive, but you cans just buy the saw and make the handle, or Cheap who does not sit down, made in Germany

Nice. I woulda raised it up HIGHER to keep away from water and splash up otherwise you'll rot. You oughta be the one that devises a A-frame house thst is built to be expanded later on without major reconstruction difficulties. For instance, if you had a door out the back of this A-frame building then that would be the future connecting doorway into the new "doubled" add-on A-frame.

Oh my ! What a horrible cut you could have used another sheet of plywood for a make shift fence just measure from the center of your jig saw to the edge of the shoe and put the edge of the plywood on that measurement put a couple screws into the plywood and make your cut

@TinyWorldLaboratory
@TinyWorldLaboratory 2 года назад
I tried but the 25 degree angles were too sharp. It mentioned it in the blueprints that i'd have to hand cut them as well. I'm sure there is a way to rig a miter saw to do it though.
@carrianecunningham7995
@carrianecunningham7995 Год назад
Ryan, The first thing you did wrong is you used a jigsaw to cut the plywood, instead of a circular saw. Next, after you cut the 2 x 4’s on the wrong side, you used a jigsaw that is used to cut metal on wood. Then you went back to the store and bought a hand wood cutting saw, when you had a mitre saw the whole time. That would have made it so much easier and faster to cut those 14 pieces.

Well good job the only big thing I see is how close to the ground you have it, theres a couple of issues fist and formost is the moisture . The closeness will trap moistness in, rotting your floor out within about 4-5 years secondly critters will make their homes under there which will attrack snakes if your lucky a king snake chanses are it wont be a king snake! . The way to have avoided this mistake was to set all four of the blocks on the ground insert your boards aply level find lowest block and sink abjacent blocks to level being your ground was close to level already. This would have left about six inches ground clearence which would have been enough for air to fllow with the slitestà of breeses keeping it drie and unattractive to critters and less attractive to snakes !

The problem with an a frame is the square footage you lose. Basically you build an expensive permanent tent! Side note you always use 2X6 for exterior framing since 1970, they found 2x4 wasn't strong enough. 2x4's are usually used for interior framing.
