I Fitted £2000 Wheels To A Vauxhall Astra?! VXR Wheel Upgrade

After the track day at Cadwell Park it was time for new tyres for the Astra. Another set of PilotSports was going to be £720, but then I'd be stuck with the stock 19" Ronal wheels for another year or two, and I really wanted to downsize. So, I got on Marketplace and started looking for some nice alloys and here's what I found!
Wheel specs:
OZ Racing Formula HLT
Colour: Grigio Corsa
PCD: 5x110
Center Bore: 65.1
Wheel Size: 18x8
Offset: ET38 (equivalent 5mm spacer vs stock Ronals)
Tyres: Continental ContiSportContact 5

Check out a Vauxhall magazine about 10 years ago for a artic white vxr with over 500 bhp and that had some proper gear on it 👍

Do 18 inch actually make a big difference to the handling? iv always liked my gloss black ronals but would consider some 18 in revolutions on my arden astra

They're about half the weight of the 19" Ronals, so less unsprung mass meaning better handling. The most noticeable thing for me was how much less harsh it is over bumps with the 18s. Worth it for that alone honestly.

Would you ever do a video breaking down the costs of everything since you had the car. Bought my VXR around a week before you bought yours and followed you since and so far I’m 2.7k deep.

I have Continental Sport Contact 7s in place of PS4S , they really aren't far away given the price difference

Yeah they've surprised me really - I can't tell much difference so far. They're cheaper and all the reviews/tests online also show they're barely noticeably worse than the PS4S I had before in terms of braking distances.

I'd never pay that price can get much nicer wheels I don't think it does your astra any justice but it's your car mate if you like them that's all that matters 😊

O.Z or BBS, ATS is the best option for Vauxhall. But you need to a little bit drop down the car. Just a little bit.

Definitely! Stock suspension handles really well though with the RARB and Wavetrac diff, so I'm not putting coilovers on for quite a while yet. Should be lowered next year 🙂

@@JamesBalazs if you don't choose from the high end category than better you buy Eibach, H&R or something GOOD quality lower springs. Trust me, I use them too only for direct racetrack car I use Bilstein B14 PSS. Nothing better if you choose a good brand than china companies without history (FK, TA Technix, JOM).

@@magellan3xxx yeah I would never buy cheap coilovers - will probably be going for GAZ Gold which are a very reputable brand made in the UK, on par with KW. You can spec them with fully adjustable rebound and compression, external oil reservoirs etc. I was told a MK4 Astra on GAZ suspension won Time Attack UK club challenge in the last few years also so they're competitive in top level racing too.
