01:13 Fitting the Tremol-no (speeded up!)
02:22 Tuning to 'Dropped D'
05:11 Using a low E drone
07:29 Country style licks!

This video is golden, I am thinking of getting the Charvel DK22 but I really dislike a floating trem. Was thinking about wether it was worth the hassle. But with this method you have best of both worlds. A really versatile guitar.

I have a DK22. Took the D/G string tree off and the tuning stability is now really good. It's the only floating bridge guitar I have so the option to lock it when the notion takes me is very attractive.

I was thinking about buying one of these and came across your vid. I have the exact same guitar as yours but in black. That plus your demonstrations sealed the deal. Ordering one tonight. Thanks for the video! Also, if you go to your description and put a 00:00 time stamp before the ones already have written, RU-vid will chop the progress bar of the video into the chapters you set which is convenient for new and returning viewers.

Thanks for this video mate, absolutely every question I had answered. The bends you did when it was fully locked may have just been the headstock being pulled forward causing the low E string to dip in pitch. I have hardtail guitars where the open strings go out of tune on big bends. It's one of the reasons the Ever-tune bridge was invented because basically everything you do affects the tension of the strings. But that's just my theory anyway. Thanks again!
@AndyWattGuitar

Cheers, glad you found the video useful! You might be right about the bends pulling the neck/headstock slightly - either way it certainly gives a very useable 'hardtail' mode. An impressive piece of kit!

Great video. Got the Tremel-No for my pro mod so cal style 2, and even cut a large enough capsule shaped access hole in trem cover plate to adjust setting easily on the fly. Unfortunately, I received a defective trem-no, and cannot get any support from manufacturer: won't answer emails, and phone number is an answering machine to mailboxes. They did not thread holes for adjustment knobs deep enough, so adjustment knobs don't work on main carriage, Seems like a good design, just dissappointing that I have to fix their manufacturing defects.

Very good video! I just purchased a tremol no for my dean Flying V.... I'm taking it to a tech to have it properly installed, because the guitar has a Floyd rose tremolo system, and I must say, I love the guitar, but I am having a very difficult time when it comes to the tremolo. May I ask, has the tremol no given you any problems at all since you created this video? Cheers!

Hi Andy, got my Style 2 now and loving it, ended up going for the 2PT instead of the hardtail. But I must ask, does the Tremel-no stick out enough that you can't get the back plate back on? I've heard people report on some guitars it can be annoying and catch on your clothes/belt buckle etc.
@AndyWattGuitar
@AndyWattGuitar 2 года назад
Great, enjoy!! The tremol-no fits fine - I’ve chosen just to keep the back plate off so it’s easier to turn hardtail mode on/off but nothing to stop me screwing the plate back on if I wanted. I’ve seen some people cut a hole in the plate for access to the tremol-no, could be an option with a Dremel!

FWIW, I tried the drone test with my hardtail tele and the low e doesn't stay perfectly in tune either. When bending the b string up a whole step the low e drops about 10 ct while the string is bent. So not necessarily a problem of the tremol-no not doing a good job when you lock it down. My guess is it's just the natural physics of changing the pitch of 1 string will always have an impact on the neck and the other strings

I guess it depends what you need - I like having the floating trem option, and the Tremol-no does a good job for when ‘hardtail mode’ is needed. I do love the natural ash finish too! If I was buying again I’d still buy the tremolo model, but it’s personal preference 😎🎸👍

Hi Andy. Thanks for this video. At 6:00 you aptly show how you can bend strings whilst keeping the 'unbent' strings in tune. But is this possible in dive-only mode as well as in hard-tail mode you reckon?
@AndyWattGuitar
@AndyWattGuitar 3 года назад
Sadly not - dive-only mode is great for altered tunings etc, but string bends still seem to have the effect of pulling the other strings down in pitch (by pulling down on the bridge). Still a handy bit of kit though!

Hello, have you tried to leave the bridge locked for long period with the guitar tuned in Drop D, it still works? Have you noticed if the guitar goes out of tune more with the bridge locked? I would like to install it and i was wondering if it would be a good solution for me. I never use the temolo and I play a lot in drop D, so i plan to leave it always locked or in dive mode. I just bought a Charvel Guthrie Govan model that has the tremol-no installed. It works as it should, but I get an annoying vibration from the tremol-no, especially in free floating mode. I was going to pull it out, but looks like the pin is permanently attached to the claw, so I’d have to take the claw out, re-solder the ground wire, etc. Has anyone found a solution to the vibration issues?

I loosely wrap my springs in thin cloth to fill out my cavity and that has taken care of most of the vibrating noises for me.

When you put it in "dive only mode", do the doble-stop bends go out of tune?

Yeah, 'dive only' has no effect on that because the string bends can still pull the trem down the way. Good for dropped tunings etc though!

One way to cope with the bends while floating is using the technique that nearly all Floyd users adopt: Compensating the heel of your hand while the bend is in progress. It's cumbersome at first, however, as one gets familiar with just how much pressure to apply, myself and some of my longtime Floyd user friends find that it works pretty well. That said, bully for you for being proactive in your search for a solution. I've got the Ash Black model. Love the pants off it! Where do you find the alternative string trees for the headstock, Andy?
@AndyWattGuitar
@AndyWattGuitar 3 года назад
Thanks, that’s interesting to know there’s a ‘Floyd technique’ for bends! I got the string trees on Ebay - slightly longer screws than the stock ones, but fitted OK and seem to help tuning stability 👍

@@AndyWattGuitar >Floyd - Indeed. Takes a concerted effort, leaning against the bridge without upsetting the micro tuners and/or leaning against the trem arm.

@AndyWattGuitar
@AndyWattGuitar 11 дней назад
Still glad I fitted it - I don't actually use it huge amount (if I want a hardtail I'll usually just grab another guitar), but it gives my Charvel an extra level of versatility for different tunings etc. No major downsides, it does vibrate a little bit but you don't notice when the guitar is plugged in.
@graveljaw
@graveljaw Год назад
PSA: The lower notes will still go flat on a hardtail guitar. This is because the neck is actually bending just a bit. Not the bridge. I'm curious how quickly you can engage and disengage the tremolo no system. Fast enough to do between songs?

Super informative video Andy! - Still left with a few questions (forgive me for my poor grasp of the laws of physics 😅) 1. How long does it take / how convenient is it to adjust the screws at the back on the fly? 2. Is it capable of switching from standard to DADGAD and keeping tune? 3. Can I lock the unit, retune the guitar to an alternate tuning and then unlock it, or will that mess with the tension too much? I'm essentially seeking the poor man's alternative to bringing a different guitar for every tuning I play in live without having to forego the trem. Worst case scenario I'll just hardtail it and try one of those Bigsby floor whammy things... 🙁
@AndyWattGuitar
@AndyWattGuitar Год назад
Hello! 1. Allow 30 seconds to get them tight - fine between songs but not mid-song. 2. Yes, any altered tuning would be fine when it's fully locked. 3. No, unlocking after re-tuning will mean it all goes out of tune again. You can use the 'dive only' mode when tuning down though, which still allows you to use the tremolo to go down (but not up) in pitch.

Hello Andy, I am curious. I see that you installed a pin type model in accordance with the list that the supplier offers. I read so often that pin and large clamp work the same . From my thinking putting the pin in the bore hole of block can not be a rigid connection at all. Means there is stil some movement left….. causing buzz or noises in the worst case. Correct me if Iam wrong. The clamp is a rigid connection….. The only thing that can probably go wrong , is not installing the system in a correct 90* angle causing friction at the rod/bar ( sorry … not a native speaker). In case of the pin type and 90* angle….. the pin needs to be placed where the block offers bore holes. I suppose the place where the bar is attached to the tremol no‘s clamp, is a fixed position? In case yes…. Does that mean archiving a 90* angle is a bit of a lottery incase of the pin type? Sorry for my „scientific“ asking. Best regards Andi
@AndyWattGuitar
@AndyWattGuitar Год назад
Hello! The pin type worked/works fine for me with minimal friction. I suspect the clamp would work too (possibly even more secure) - you could email Tremol-no with a photo of the trem block and they'll advise which they would recommend. Beyond that I think just installing/setting up correctly is the key!
