It’s a shame that Warner Bros. never got behind their own projects. Everytime a bad review came out they focused on appeasing them verses actually supporting their films. Warner Bros. killed the DCEU through self sabotage

In my opinion, everything you suggested in this video makes complete sense. Old DCEU and new merging to make one cohesive set of stories would be perfect, everyone wins. And 100% of the fans supporting all DC instead of factions at war with each other makes for some nice box office returns. Well played sir.

I love your answer to fixing the DC universe. Why is it that people who are fans understand these characters better than people who have the power to make these movies. It's still about money and just throwing things at the wall and see what sticks we need people who really love these characters and understand them, and are willing to do what is right to tell a good story to bring all the fandom together in one happy unit.

I would have Superman acting as a mentor to Billy at some point, Superman/Shazam Return of Black Adam was really good and could have worked as a model. As far as the wider universe, I'm with you. It should've continued and been built apon. It felt like there was some exciting momentum coming out of Black Adam with Waller talking her shit, Superman showing up, and Teth Adam working with the Justice Society. It really felt like something was big happening, plus Darkseid was looming in the background.... what could've been.

If only WB let Snyder make his movies w/o interference we could’ve had a great DCEU, universe with great actors. BvS Ultimate Edition, ZSJL, Black Adam, The Flash (and I still say there’s an Ayercut) if they all came out as the original release date the DCEU would be strong but instead ppl scapegoated Snyder. I read that BvS/ BvS UE was meant to be a MoS2 then a solo Batman movie but WB shoehorned the trinity & a famous Superman comic that was meant as a build up, not a sequel. And someone on a FB page pointed out a JL movie would’ve came out later down the road, which makes sense.

This is LITERALLY what I've been telling folks I spoke to about the downfall of the DCEU. Aquaman made a billion dollars! People were still willing to show up. The old regime prioritized B/C list characters, instead of continuing the lead with their JL heroes.

I think one cool idea I would implement in this hypothetical scenario is, aside from the official dcu movies, keep an annual or bi-annual competition among fan projects, and then based on some kind of selection (by a dc community wide poll / special audience judge / or directly decided by the heads at DC) one of the pitched/presented projects would be selected for an official funding by the studios to be made into a proper movie (either animated or live action). This will foster creativity and engagement at a totally different level among fandom and with word of mouth based on how these initially go, the good will from people will spread to general audience as well. Not rushing too many DCU projects in a year will give quality content to audience, and on top of that fan films will be an addition as well, thus giving people more content in terms of quantity without compromising on quality. Idk what are the flaws in an actual implementation of this idea, but seeing that this can work to benefit both - movie watchers & movie makers, I think the downsides can be addressed to achieve a win-win!

BVS was considered a “box office failure” because of the WB executives. BVS was originally slated to be released in mid-July 2015… until Kevin Feige announced on the fly for D23 that Captain America’s third solo film is Civil War. Warner Bros. overreacted by pushing back the release date to March 25, 2016, meaning more money was poured into marketing to keep their audiences hooked (thus the $150M marketing budget). However Marvel in turn reacted by announcing Captain America: Civil War would be released May 6, 2016, which contributed to BVS’ 68% box office drop in the second weekend - especially after the abysmal theatrical cut we got thanks to WB’s interference.

The fault of the failure of the DCEU is the WB suits. They shoehorned BvS /BvS UE into having the trinity & one of the most famous comics of all time, Death of Superman, which needs a build up.

One big thing I’d add to this is Green Lantern, I think one of the biggest problems with the DCEU was that it didn’t even try with the Lanterns, all we had was that random one in the flashback for both versions of Justice League that died and from there they planned (more like debated on it probably) on Green Lantern Corps but that kept getting pushed back and Snyder planned to have Hal in Justice League 3 but that obviously hasn’t been able to happen so far and all of that sucks when Green Lantern has the potential to be one of the best parts of a DC Cinematic Universe, DC literally has their own Star Wars in front of them on a silver platter and have refused to properly use it clearly because of the 2011 movie so I’d have Green Lantern as one of the top priorities with two options on how to use it, one:Green Lantern Corps movies, instead of a show for Guy Gardner and Alan Scott (the latter isn’t even part of the Corps 🤦🏻‍♂️), a movie series where the first would focus on Hal and John Stewart, the second would bring in Guy, and the third Kyle Rayner while Hal is also a member of the League in those movies. Two: movies for Hal, show for the others, I think Super Frame came up with a really great idea for the Lanterns with 6 movies focusing on Hal with each one building up to Blackest Night with a show focusing on the other three going on so the movies don’t have to take focus away from Hal and his journey so I’d EASILY prefer something like that (and honestly at this point really just that whole universe pitch) Ok another thing would also be getting rid of Ezra Miller and Amber Heard, especially get rid of Miller as the Flash at this point, get Grant Gustin back, satisfy people with Lucas Till, I don’t care just literally anybody except someone like him (and no I don’t care if he goes by they/them if you’re gonna act like how he does then I do not give a crap what your preference is)

Sounds like a very good plan and makes a lot of sense but sadly it seems WB has little of that when it comes to DC.

It would have been SIMPLE Step #1 - Let Snyder make Justice League 2 and 3. Announce that the only films "Canon" to that Saga are MOS, BVS, Ayer SS, Wonder Woman, ZSJL 1 2 and 3 Step #2 - Plan the launch of a new universe, one which can potentially incorporate the films like Shazam, Blue Beetle, etc

They could've just made a Justice League 2 which would be a sequel of the Snyder Cut and that movie would also be 4 hours long where we would see the complete story of Darkseid vs Justice League. First 2 hours will be Darkseid winning and the second 2 hours will be the Justice League regrouping and defeat Darkseid after restoring everything. And after that movie, WB could've rebooted the DC universe if they were so hellbent on doing it.

We don't even know if James Gunn's DCU is gonna be any good. Everyone is telling us to move on and embrace Gunn's DC plan and calling us toxic Snyder cultist for preferring Snyder's DC plan.

The thing DC is missing is momentum. They threw all the hype away that is why they are failing. Just do one scene where Barry is watching a retelling of the JL story, like a play, a show but then he tells himself that stakes were higher in reality, then shows flashbacks of ZSJL scenes and how they almost died. They could make multiple films between Darkseid's invation and build that up. There is no need for reboot just commitment and Gunn just threw is away. But let's just see the new dc

I love your plan for the dceu it’s really awesome and just feels like a organic way to get this universe back on track which makes me so happy and I would really love to see man of steel 2 be a adaptation of Superman rebirth with Clark and Lois raising their son Jonathan Samuel Kent Superboy as his little 10 year old self would be really awesome and badass at least in my opinion.

I would go with both DCEU and DCU to create a crisis event at some point after the Darkseid War. So both Snyder and Gunn could make the fans happy.

Really good a plan I wish James could thought that way... or in my opinion if he's rebooting, then reboot all of it .... He could recast some actors in the same role without their old back story being canon ( like what Marvel is planning with Daredevil) and also new actors can be cast in new role... Also Gunn could announce the reboot news towards end of this year...with THE FLASH being the last movie to release ...and other movies like SHAZAM , AQUAMAN could have small alteration (like SHAZAM's permanent death) with post credit scene teasing a dark path for DCEU and in THE FLASH everything would reset may be avoiding that future or not......

Those ideas for the DCEU are fantastic! I guarantee that if implemented that approach would create excitement and the DCEU would take off like never before. As it is I predict that the new reboot will create about as much excitement as Gunn's Suicide Squad (which lost as much money as WW 1984.)

Agreed. I've been telling them on Twitter, all they had to do was build on the Snyderverse. They could add some of the Gunn plans to it if necessary. They didn't have to reboot anything. DC fans are REALLY tired of reboots.

I would rehire Snyder as the main director & Gunn as another director, came out with a statement saying the directors cuts were how the movies were originally supposed to come out as in 2016 (BvS Ultimate Edition) & ZSJL (2017) , the old WB regimes botched the movies bc they were greedy & it gave the already fat cats bonuses.

As a Cobra Kai Fan, I can say with relative ease that Blue Beetle was a great & fantastic movie/film, but I agree that the DCEU still needs a lot of fixing to do. I get that it's dope to do something parallel to their rival-company Marvel, but DC went too far by overthinking that it wouldn't stand a chance of keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when *rushing* is actually exactly what causes DC to lose against Marvel by a mile. The proper way for DCEU to compete with the MCU, is for DC to focus on doing it's own thing, rather than worrying too much about Marvel taking advantage of DC, when rushing DC movies/films just increases that specific situation even more, and even then: it's not like Marvel is trying to replace DC in anyway, so why should DC dwell on that competition? DC should just focus way more on DC and much less on Marvel in order to write good story-arcs for each Superheroes of the Justice League members! Thank you for sharing how the DCEU can be fixed!

This is a great plan! I think it could work. I hate to say it because I want to see it, but the only thing I would move on from is the Ayer cut to avoid even more confusion. If it is released, I would hope it wouldn't change any outcome so much.

While I will miss Henry Cavill, I would much rather have a more traditional Superman, Aquaman, Flash, etc. I would also LOVE to see Martian Manhunter on the Justice League roster. The interpretations of these characters we got in the DCEU are definitely not what I'm looking for. Snyder also wasted some the greatest storylines DC has. While I wouldn't mind keeping some of the actors, I definitely would not want to keep the continuity of the DCEU.

The main things I wanted to see was - Batfleck vs Deathstroke. Cyborg movie. Teen Titans. Blue Beetle. Booster gold. Justice society of America. JL vs Mongal. Young justice movie. And of course Snyders JL 2 and 3

What they should've done was keep the Snyder verse and still let James Gunn do his version creating the DC multi verse and even have cross overs and this would give DC to do the live action version of an extremely dark Injustice which is something that fans have been waiting for an evil superman and the real BVS

For real now, I do feel the dc fans are very confused including me. With Gunn picking up and choosing some of the older members but rebooting the rest makes this very confusing to me, because like you I would rather see the whole thing rebooted or use the flash movie to reset everything and recast the original JL members at best!

In my opinion there’s too much baggage with DC currently with the old DCEU (not calling it the Snyderverse go to hell) and the new DCU (again not calling it the Gunnverse) from complicated and messed up timeline and mischaracterization of the characters and the generic look DC has doubled down on, and the actors that can’t stop getting into trouble, and some wrong castings too. DC has had moderate successes with filmmaker driven projects like The Batman and Joker. I would like to continue that trend with more filmmaker driven projects in the DC Universe but still connected under one over arching story. Also in this DCU I would only focus on film and TV Gunn idea of integrating animation and gaming with the main continuity of the films and shows is a terrible idea. I’m keeping them separate. Here’s my hypothetical idea, 100% reboot, recast everybody no exceptions. Start over from the Flash restarting the timeline and it creates a new Earth for the DCU. Calling it Rebirth. I think the the gist of this video is spot on as the best way to fix this mess. I think fans mostly thought this was going to happen too. The backlash isn’t necessarily “things need to be Snyder’s style”. It’s more of “we’ve supported this interpretation of the DCEU and we want to see this succeed”. It doesn’t need to be erased.. it needs to have some vision. You can’t build a DCEU and have no Batman or Superman since the 3rd movie and no Green Lantern in 12 movies other than a flashback. You can’t expect people to keep interest when the big charters they’ve loved aren’t even being featured.

Good idea but taking someone else vision Snyder vision and using it as your won’t get the full potential. Gunn has to use his style of story telling. They should brought back Snyder let him finish and then give them the DCU Studio.

This is the way I would have fixed the DCEU looking back in hindsight. 1. Man of Steel (2013) - Released as normal. 2. Solo Batman movie (2016) - Released instead of BVS, as Ben Affleck’s Batman was the best part of the movie. 3. Wonderwoman (2017) - Released as normal 4. BVS: Dawn of Justice (2018) - Now that we have 3 solo movies that have provided all of the intros and set ups, we can have a first team up movie that doesn’t need to be 3 hours long. 5. Aquaman (2019) 6: Flash (2019) 7: Justice league movie (2020) - Now we have established the universe and most characters, this doesn’t need to be 4 hours long, and this could be the first introduction into Cyborgs story.

The only thing that will make this all better is if they didn't remove any actors for the dcu, most people like the actors for the heroes, like Henry Cavill, people are not gonna like the Superman movie if it's not Henry Cavill and the movie won't get enough money since no one really liked it, it's like with Marvel, you change the actor, then no one's gonna like it and they won't get enough money, they're gonna realize it soon, I just hope they change their minds. :(

Rebooting DC wasn't necessary. All they had to do were two things. Firstly, adhere to the tone that Zack Snyder established with Man of Steel. One of the reasons why I love DC more than Marvel is the darker tone, which Snyder captured perfectly, but Warner Bros think that it needs to be light hearted and funny, therefore making it feel tonally inconsistent. Secondly, focus on Snyder's Justice League trilogy plan. Since Aquaman, DC has lacked direction and consistency, they need to focus on characters that are part of the Snyderverse and make films for them; so Man of Steel 2, Wonder Woman 3, Ben Affleck's Batman, Cyborg, Batgirl, Supergirl, Green Lantern, Deathstroke, Black Manta, New God's, and finally Justice League 2 and 3. Oh, and whilst you're at it, release the f*cking Ayer Cut

If you make the air cut cat in your racing James Gunn Suicide Squad movie. And if you're racing James Gunn Suicide Squad movie that you can't really have peacemakers season 2 or season one can into the universe cuz it wouldn't make sense. To your plan is just what James Gunn did he literally said that he's integrating smaller characters with the main characters in having them interact with each other. So what he's doing is perfect

Imagine a solo Henry Cavill Superman Trilogy like The Dark Knight. No build up to Justice League or a cinematic universe, just Superman and his mythos. Reintroducing him to the modern audience. It would be beautiful.

When Are We Getting Episode 2 Of Fixing/Rebuilding The DCEU?

It was an easy fix. Just make the following movies as part of Elseworld and pretend it never existed: Suicide Squad 2016 (theatrical cut). Josstice League. The Suicide Squad 2021. Wonder Woman 84. Birds of Prey. Release the Ayer cut Suicide Squad and make it cannon to the main DCEU along with the rest of the remaining movies (MOS,BVS,ZSJL,WW1,Aquaman1 etc). Bring back Zack Snyder and let him continue his story, ending with the Darkseid invasion/ knightmare arc like he originally planned. Then reboot with Flash and start a new timeline. This is where Gunn comes in with his DCU slate. Snyder fans happy...Gunn fans happy with no division in the fandom!!!

And bring back Henry Cavill to continue on as Superman.

So keep Ezra Miller??? And AyerCut being released wouldn't make sense. And what about Ben Affleck saying he's done with DC movies,Superman having a son is a very STUPID problem💀 The reboot is needed DCEU is the most toxic thing that's happened to the DC brand.

I like Ezra as Flash. I like the JL suit. It’s like if Flash existed in the real world. Like Nolan’s Batman trilogy. A fabric suit would be almost crazy if his character isn’t developed, I say Flash needs 2 solo movies & 1.5 (gets destroyed) team up movies before a futuristic type upgrade from his future self, then does a Flashpoint. I’m torn abt the movie, bc Keaton is back as Batman & I want to see how they do that but I want to see Negan (Thomas in BvS) as Batman & them going with the Snyderverse. I also feel like everything with Ezra, some things are being played up bc to some ppl or one person if he’s doing all these crazy things whose gonna double check if someone lied? I feel like after all the stuff Joss did during the reshoots/rewrites & the same with the Flash movie, it broke him, making him a victim of WB/Joss too

THE FLASH gave me hope that there is an ALTERNATE UNIVERSE where the EXECS didn't SCREW UP the DCEU with orders like "Cut 30 minutes out of that movie so we'll have more showings."

Overall your idea is not bad. If your big main argument at the beginning is that it's better to use the bigger characters, then it doesn't contradict the DCU's plan. I think the DCEU could be fixed. But a reboot is definitely the simpler way. I mean does the DCEU have an audience? Yes. Does the DCU have an audience? Also yes. Accordingly, it makes little difference. You should only make cheaper films with a 80 to 100 m budget at the beginning of the DCU to ensure success. However, this flooding of projects must not happen in either case. I only have small personal problems like The Rocks Black Adam, the beginning of the DCEU is and remains murky and the Flash timeline merging is too complicated for normal moviegoers. One of the reasons why I hope Gunn's soft reboot feels like a hard reboot. Similar to The Suicide Squad. I think it isnt really that easy.

Best plan I've heard yet. Also don't be surprised if they copy your plan down to the letter if theirs happens to flop.

As a lifelong DC fan I completely concur with your take on how to save the DCEU.

MAN OF STEEL 2 should introduce Braniac and LexLuthor, and build up to a Justice League Two vs them, with Darkseid saved for a buildup through "Phase 2 and Phase 3" to fruition in Justice League Three.

Imagine a Superman Man Of Tomorrow movie starring Henry Cavill as Superman , Alexandra Daddario as Lois Lane and Ryan Hurst as Lobo directed by James Gunn and Written by Zack Snyder ( I think Michael Giachino should compose the music ) That Superman movie could have been the most beautiful comic book movie.

Hire Zack to make the final two films, could be cut to only one film, if the money isn't there. In the mean time, have Gunn throw the lesser know and appreciated characters at the wall to see what sticks, like Blue Beetle. At the end of ZSJL2/3, Killing Darkseid ends in a Flash of light, Barry explains how it triggered a Crisis as Darkseid lives outside the Multiverse. Barry turns to ash, cutting to a teaser of Gunn's Superman and on a newly minted Earth Prime. Super easy.

ZS JL is a masterpiece that needs more than just a treaming platform for fans to enjoy it. Still, I am greateful that ZS was able to deliver his version, which is masterpiece none can compare.

These are amazing ideas! On the other hand, if WB is so adamant on rebooting, why be selfish, they already assigned other Great projects to DC Elseworlds, DCEU could continue as a part of that too under the vision of the amazing Snyder with our beloved cast... it already was a box office success... Just a thought.

Overall this is a very bad idea for many reasons: 1. There is no Ayer Cut of SS. At the very least he probably has a few more minutes of Leto’s Joker but that’s it. Hence why he only seems to pop up with “never before seen” shots of Joker when fueling that vocal minority of supporters. But god forbid his cut exists, how does releasing it in theaters do anything other than lose the studio money, and confuse tf out of film goers? 2. In an effort to ‘connect everything’ and please everyone this idea would likely do the opposite. I do not like Gunn/Safran’s plans for the DCU either and have no interest in supporting the DCU, but I also wouldn’t be interested in a cinematic apology tour by DC studios. 3. Pleasing everyone at this point would be a clean reboot. Not an attempt to carry over our favorites, that’s not going to work and Gunn will find that out in a few years time. If a cinematic universe is to come out of this old one it has to allow all viewers the chance of a blank slate; with true intention and love put into seeing it flourish.
