It's a shame, my mind spins with the possibilities for customs Ultimate characters could've had. Might be obvious but Sora is one of the ones I wonder about the most (Reflega replacing Counter, Strike Raid or Ars Arcanum replacing Sonic Blade, Glide Up-B, it'd be stupid but fun lol) Honestly I'd say the biggest mistake with customs in Smash 4 is just how fucking impossible it is to get all of them. There's stuff like the AFK Target Blast thing but it really should have just been as simple as making it not possible to get ones you already have.

I never played smash 4. Really wish ultimate had them. Seemed very fun for casual play

The most baffling thing to me is how hard they were to get. For one, I'd already question them being unlockable to start with because it's a big gameplay mechanic that took a buttload of time to animate and program, and they're harder to unlock than trophies and CDs (the already-established collectibles). At the risk of sounding ignorant about how devs think, I would imagine some devs on the Smash 4 team being pretty pissed to have this much work basically shelved and hidden.

​@@ShyRanger making them unlockables was such strange old-school gaming choice for what was a modern era game, but if they weren't unlockables then they probably woulda been DLC lol

@@crooker23 You say lol but honestly, that sounds like it would've been better to me. 1. You'd just have them. As they are in now you're basically spending hours upon hours getting them, so it's time vs. money. 2. Sure, making custom moves DLC risks "pay to win" but even with them in the game, they were still banned after first EVO anyway, so it's not like them being in normally really fixed them. 3. Them not being in would've opened up time for other things in the main game release. Even if no new modes, characters, or stages got in, more trophies and maybe songs to collect might've been okay cause they're collectibles. And best case something of more substance like another mode, even small would be fine, and touching up characters and mechanics. 4. If they were DLC and sold well enough, that actually might've enticed them to stick around more than just being basically a Smash 4 in-game mechanic. So yeah, no joke, I think them as DLC would've been better.

What makes you put this over brawl(I'm a melee player so I'm just curious) I enjoyed subspace but wii u did let you have more players than 4

@@twelvevoltage Subspace got old after playing it once and the general 4 player / 8 player smash experience is far inferior to Smash 4's options of random customs and more stupid modes. The only thing that Brawl has over Smash 4 in this regard is 1 HP Stamina mode battles

We started with customs legal and it was the worst thing ever. They are simply too broken to be a functional format. It’s really funny tho.

You had Captain Falcon’s lightning kick infinite, Fox’s twisting Fox killing off the side at 40%, Mario/Dr Mario/Luigi fireball spam cancer, and then lots of other silly moves I don’t remember atm

There were a few good customs but generally a lot of them ended up being doo doo butter

89 characters in ultimate, 8 additional custom moves per character. That means 712 extra moves to design lol

@@DrSwazz Sure but if they end up making Ultimate Deluxe it's kind of the only real direction to go.

My dream idea is for them to rework Customs entirely by tying them into alternate coustumes. With a setting that would turn them off of course. It would simultaneously force them to come up with cooler alternate costumes and more balanced but still sick custom moves.

it was cheese central but it was also the first smash game i competed in so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
