The LiteRadio3 is BetaFPV’s best and most capable radio to date. It comes packed with a larger battery, revised gimbals, and an external module bay for future protocols. In our previous video we explored the possibilities of this external bay by installing and testing ExpressLRS. Today we have another protocol, and module to test, the Crossfire Nano. Crossfire is a very popular and reliable radio link used by long-range pilots. With the existence of a module bay on our LiteRadio3, we can see if Crossfire is compatible with this budget radio. I've watched several BetaFPV LiteRadio 3 review videos and it appears you're the only one that read the manual! Great job with the Crossfire module, discovering the extended bottom case part, that was cause for LOL, I've done that.

@@OneManUnmannedThank you for you video! Could you please elaborate on how you managed to configure the LiteRadio 3 to work with Crossfire? I get no stick movement in betaflight! My setup includes a Crossfire Nano TX, and two Crossfire receivers (one diversity). The binding process works well, both using Agent M via USB and by hitting the TX button while TX is mounted on the remote. To be 100% percent certain that everything is wired correctly, Betaflight is properly configured, all modules fully functional - I checked all components, separately & together, one by one, with a Taranis x7 RC and everything worked perfectly - stick movement and all. All above experiments were performed via both 4.11 and 6.17 Crossfire firmware (both TX & RX). The remote itself arrived with firmware 2.0.1, then re-flushed to 2.0.1 for sanity's sake; Having repeated all above experiments with both FrSky & ELRS remotes - still no stick movement in Betaflight with the GetFPV LiteRadio 3. Intuition points me towards that "add model" step that made everything tick with the Taranis X7.. Anyways - since everything is working with an X7, since it's written all over that CRSF is fully supported (& working for you) and it's two separate LiteRadio 3 remotes that I failed to configure - what's that obvious step that I'm missing..?
@OneManUnmanned
@OneManUnmanned 2 года назад
I'll be honest, mine worked just as described in the video. I changed my LiteRadio3 from "Internal" to "External" module. That allowed power to be provided to the CRSF Nano TX. I then pressed the bind button on the back of my module while the RX was in bind mode. They paired up and everything worked. I know TBS had TX and RX update issues over the past few weeks. Just make sure your TX and RX are on the same firmware and try the binding process as listed above.

I know this is as of now, a 2 year old video, but I'm hoping you remember enough about this situation, that you can kindly help get me out of the issue I'm in. I gave up on ELRS, it was such a nightmare with version matches, radio flashing, FC flashing... I have a TX16S MAX with the hall gimbals, blue led gimbal lights ... all ready to go, but I've not had any luck with ELRS binding.... so I essentially made a hard decision: switch over to Crossfire. My first experience with Crossfire: I ordered a GEPRC Cinebot 30 with a crossfire pre-loaded rx, and a TBS crossfire nano TX module I thought I could just plug into the back of my Radiomaster TX16S when everything arrived...... not in the cards. Before prepping to send it back, I opened my Beta FPV LiteRadio 3 I bought almost a year ago - and discovered that the new tx module WOULD fit into the back of THAT radio, but not with some flipping of the mounted back-plate to accommodate, like your video here instructs. But THIS is when my luck runs out. I don't know what you did to make everything work, but I'm completely stuck. I have a "partial" bind with the rx to the drone. But all I see in Betaflight when I power up the radio with module control, is a spinning drone image in the 'receiver' tab, and no stick or button responses on any channel. Furthermore, I had to change the frequency in Agent to 915, where before it had defaulted to 868. So I rebound everything at the correct 915, but the drone was STILL unresponsive. This is where I'm at, I've asked everywhere I know to ask, looked everywhere I can - with very little help. Even the engineers at GEPRC who I've been in support chat with, seem to know very little on the true workings of the Crossfire system. When you "bound" your tx module and rx's - did you have to hold the bind button on the rx WHILE powering up the drone? I haven't done this yet, as I'm living pretty much alone, and find it impossible to fasten a battery while successfully holding down that hard-to-find bind button on the rx. Please, I hope you can tell me what you did. I switched to Crossfire, to GET AWAY from countless issues like this, that ELRS hammered me constantly with. I hope you (or anyone) can help.... thanks in advance!!

Nice video and helpful information my man! I just ordered the radio lite 3 frsky version not the lrs. Question ….when i get the crossfire module do i have to update or download anything to get it working and flying?
@OneManUnmanned
@OneManUnmanned 2 года назад
CRSF is a little different than ELRS, but the firmware on the Crossfire module and the RX needs to be the same. Typically you'll have to update the module on your computer with the latest firmware. When you bind the module to the RX for the first time, the Module will automatically send an updated firmware to the RX. Once that's finished, you should be fine.

@OneManUnmanned
@OneManUnmanned 2 года назад
Well, this radio does not come with Crossfire. It has an external bay, that can accept a Nano module like ELRS or Crossfire. For it to be compatible your drone, you'll have to buy the Crossfire Nano module, configure it, then attach it to the external bay of this radio.

@OneManUnmanned
@OneManUnmanned 2 года назад
Do you own the LiteRadio3 or LiteRadio2 SE?
@OneManUnmanned
@OneManUnmanned 2 года назад
In order to use ELRS with the LiteRadio2 SE, you'll need the new internal board or just get the LiteRadio2 with ELRS built-in. If you have the LiteRadio3 with Frsky built-in, you can just buy any ELRS nano module and have the best of both worlds(Frsky D8 and ELRS). If you fly D8 drones only, you don't have to upgrade to the new radio.
@scu-dub
@scu-dub 2 года назад
When the lite 3 came out the first thing I thought of was adding a crossfire mod and this radio would basically have the best of both worlds 😁 I mean other than not having open tx and that it's a game style radio that some don't like this is really all you need👍🏼lol
@OneManUnmanned
@OneManUnmanned 2 года назад
Yeh, the game style radios are super subjective. Imagine having ELRS and CRSF in the same radio. I'm sure the next version of this radio will have Open/Edge TX.

I am well past the 'fitment' issues, luckily I was able to move the electronics - the board and connected wires - into a compatible housing that fit my LiteRadio 3, as shown here (but shown to me previously in one of DrainMan's videos). What I DON'T know - is how this guy actually getting the module to WORK with the LiteRadio 3. Mine just keeps power-cycling exactly once per second, making true communication between the module and the rx in my drone IMPOSSIBLE. Is there ANY solution?? Obviously there is, its right here in front of me - I just cannot for the life of me, find that 'missing piece of the puzzle'!! I wish he would have explained in more detail ***HOW*** he was finally able to get the module working CORRECTLY ... and THIS VIDEO is the ONLY VIDEO on the entire internet, that shows it can be done!! So PLEASE, One Man Unmanned -- EXPLAIN how you made this all work!

Buying a LiteRadio 3 for $60 seemed like a no-brainer until I found that no U.S. retailers have any in stock. I ended up buying a TBS Tango 2 (for Crossfire) instead and then adding a LightRadio 2SE for FrSky D8 Tiny Whoops. I really like the small size, light weight, and simplicity of the LiteRadio. I’ll probably buy a LightRadio 3 once they’re available for sale again without having to order from China.
@OneManUnmanned
@OneManUnmanned 2 года назад
Sounds like a perfect plan. I do agree the simplicity and lightweight makes a portable radio on the go. I'm liking the capabilities of the light radio3. It runs Frsky, ELRS, CRSF, and all components can fit in its case.

@robi5722 2 года назад
I do have a TX16, I mainly use a Tango 2 Pro and I have gotten a LiteRadio 3 to use it mainly with the sim... nice one, compact, but gimbals are waaaaay too light, even if you install the hall gimbals with the adjustable spring tension... it goes from playstation type tension to light tension. In my opinion that's the weak point of this budget radio, the gimbals.
@OneManUnmanned
@OneManUnmanned 2 года назад
Yeh, It’s not a perfect radio, but gimbal feel is very subjective from one pilot to the next. I’m glad it worked, especially with the sim.

@@OneManUnmanned I'll tell you more, as I don't need it to be constantly recharged by the usb port, I've disconnected the internal battery from the board, put in a new extension cable connected to the board, and passed both extension and battery cable throgh the bottom expansion bay holes out of the radio and hidden under the bay cover, because I won't use the nano bay. The Litaradio now works as a usb controller with green light flashing when connected to pc. I asked BetaFPV if this was feasable before doing it, so I now have a sim controller not straining internal battery with overcharge, and when I need it as a elrs rc with it's internal module i just have to plug the extension in the bay. Same if you have to calibrate the gimbals, just plug the battery in the extension and switch it on. Obviously is all reversable.
