I Forced Myself to Speedrun Klingon in Duolingo

Klingon sounds like the name of a company that only makes grappling hooks

Duolingo: “The Klingon language is beautiful” “no it’s not” Duolingo, the next sentence: “You are stupid”

Other languages on Duolingo when you just start: Mom, Dad, Water. klingon on Duolingo when you just start: *A warrior by the title Worf has challenged your mate Torg to a duel, Torg has perished.*

You don't "hate" Klingon. You're too passionate about it. No one dedicates nearly 2 hours of their lives to learn something they hate if they are not obligated, believe me.

"Even all the sounds, like, you can tell it was recorded at their house", can confirm, I recorded some of the voice lines for this, did so in my bedroom 😂

I own a Klingon dictionary and let me just say the struggle is real! Marc (the creator of the language) wrote the book and he gives a quick overview of the grammar. English word order is SVO (subject verb object) and Klingon is the exact opposite, OVS. It is just pain. Also, the fact that they included actual lore from the show is fabulous

Klingon is the language of the Klingons, a race of mostly warriors who honor the battles of Star Trek history. Klingons used to not like the Federation but then had to accept that a peace striving government is more powerful than their empire. Klingon was meant to be a language that is very different from English or “Federation Standard”, of course it is hard. All I can say is good luck. I tried to learn Klingon once because I’m a Trekkie. I could barely get past the first few lessons, but I like the neat references that always indicate it is form Star Trek, much of the sentences and language in Klingon reflect the series.

Brings me back to learning Esperanto on Duolingo. I'm fluent in the language now. I'm about midway through the French Duolingo course. I was top of my French class, getting 100% on my final exams. I wanna learn Russian next, because I'm interested in the county's history and culture, and if WW3 starts, I might be good enough to not get sent to the front (God help me if WW3 is against China.). I also want to learn Persian and Japanese at some point. I like anime and am interested in Persian history and literature. I want to read _The Book of Kings_ and _The Conference of the Birds_ in their original language.

Klingon is the official language of nerds the world over. Back in the early days of starcraft I played a game with a korean. He spoke no english, I spoke no korean. We both spoke klingon. It was a lot of fun.

I am a huge huge huge fan of Star Trek and am glad this is a thing, but seeing this is a thing makes me a bit mad when my first language is still not on Duolingo no matter how many professionals we try to get to convince them to add it. Literally a language with millions of contemporary speakers is harder to get on Duolingo than Klingon.

I'm currently learning High Valyrian, nearly finished unit 14 with a 71 day streak, and I can confidently say I've never been so amazed (that someone was able to create a whole language, so fleshed out and with so many oddly specific words and conjugations, from nothing) and also so confused at the same time.

The Japanese language, although has kanji you need to drill, it's logically constructed and extremely consist. Klingon, I haven't studied this language enough to make a great comparison.

I'm not really familiar with Klingon, but, even for section 1 of the skill tree, that IPA-less, wikiless run looked pretty smooth to me. Great intuition there.
