Lovely find John. I have to admit, I’m slightly envious that you’re able to find NOS bikes in the USA, there’s sadly very few of those available in South Africa. White Rolls saddle gets my vote 👍🏼
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage 2 года назад
Thanks! I think the White rolls wins. In the USA I call these bikes Garage Queens. Someone with money buys themselves or their wife a dream bike and they ride it twice and then they store it in the basement. lol

Beautiful Pinarello. I have a Pinarello Prestige S that was never ridden in blue metallic paint but it has all internal cable routing. The handlebar stem reads Pinarello and the same on down tube shifters. With Campagnolo Super Record all around including skewers. All the decals are just like yours, incredible how those bikes were so well taken care of.

You scored big time with that find! The white saddle would look great especially, if it’s a wall hanger. Love the hollow pin chain.

That's such a beautiful bike. Keep in mind that the high-end frames have Campagnolo dropouts. If you have a bike that has Gipiemme dropouts or dropouts with bikes brand on it, it's a club, entry level or training bike. Even if it's made of Columbus SL tubes.

The S.I. Genuine gel saddles came out in the mid to late 90's. I have a White S.I. Turbo that I put on my white Cannondale SR400, that I bought from Action, in 1984. I probably put on close to 80,000 to 90,000 miles on it, before I put that bike away (The bike was a real bone shaker). I wore the white off of the sides and nose, down to the skin colored leather. San Marco Rolls saddles look great, but the rails always break on me after three or four years (on three different Rolls). One of these days when the STI shifters on my Bianchi TSX dies, and there are no more replacements, I'll throw on some friction downtube friction shifters, and put on an old first-generation C-Record rear derailleur that has been sitting around for 35 Years.

@billkallas1762
@billkallas1762 Год назад
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage Yes it is. I probably changed just about everything on that SR400, after I bought it. Bar, stem, wheels, crank, and derailleurs. After all of those component swaps, I decided, after that, it was always frame and fork, and components I could find on sale, or close out.

Nice find, John. I like the 80s color. As you let us vote, I like the white Rolls over a black saddle. Drivetrain-wise is the trick Campy shift off upper cog (?) mechanism that’s the shifting system item you challenged us on? I’ve not ever really seen one.

beautiful bike! If you aren't going to ride the bike, I'd leave the current saddle on it, but a white saddle does look great. Regarding the yellow stuff on the brake caliper, it might be some grease that migrated. Perhaps try some rubbing alcohol to remove it?
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage 2 года назад
You're correct on all accounts. I will probably put a more appapoe saddle on it. Possibly a Rolls. Most likely the bike is coming apart. I'll polish everything, repack all the bearings and then probably polish the stain out of the caliper. It does look like migrated oil or grease.

You're growing on me getting to really like your RU-vid bike videos. Does Syncro 1 lever in friction mode work with older design SR derailleur?
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage 2 года назад
Thanks for watching. Still trying to find my way doing these vids. My goal is to make "comfort" tv with Vintage road bikes as the subject matter. Yes, You can use that in friction mode. It will work fine. But I am going to put some SR friction levers on it as it should be specked. The shifters on it I'll probably sell. I NEVER liked that era of Campagnolo Syncro shifters. They never worked well.
