I have an '82 frame that was bought and stored in a closet still wrapped in the factory paper. I am building it with NOS Campagnolo Nuovo Record and Super Record components. The newest bit are the Mavic Open Pro wheels because once the bike is complete, it will be riden. Granted it will be a piece of art on wheels.

Had one just like yours. Sold it to make room for some other bikes. Great build up. Liked all the parts on the table including the beer! Cheers!

Back in the 80's I had an Alan all Mavic SSC, Colnago Master all C- Record first generation, Pinarello SL all Super Record. The Alan was my favorite for long distance and climbing. Comfortable geometry and very flexible ! Loved it, specifically on the long climbs ! Unfortunately the top head lug cracked. I rode it that way for years until I replaced it with a first generation Merlin titanium. Wish I still had it ! Love the build and your enthusiasm ! 👍

John as you were in your "bicycle grocery store" aka "The Man Cave", I couldn't help but feel a tingle of jealousy. I love all your complete bikes but as I build my Alan, boy would I love to decent into your bike grocery store. Thanks for the video.

Only just got round to viewing this one. Derivation of "ALAN" ... new to me. Thanks for that. And the rest of the video of course. 😁 Particularly enjoyed the tour of the treasure trays. I've recently been busy with a 1988 MBK and a 1977 Carlton. The MBK is now ridable for the first time in about 12 years and the Carlton is now razor sharp.

Just saw this video today. Don't know how I missed it! Nice to see bike parts hoard, you'll never what you need when working on a classic bike. If I can add my tip, add a section of the Teflon cut from stripped open modern derailleur cables hausing and slip the derailleur cables through them under the BB. Makes shifting more slick and protects the frame too.

Rode Alan’s in the late 70s in Belgium loved them

My wife came to me with one in the same color scheme, though hers (now long sold-off) was a 'cross bike with canti-brakes. Guerciotti is Gwear-cho-tee. Paolo was a 'cross champ back-in-the-day. Met him once at his Milan retail store. Miche is mee-kay. Slight criticism on lever placement - Campy is/was very specific that a straight-edge along the bottom of the bar drop should line up with the bottom of the lever blade - not too high, not too low.

This one is a little special for me because for 34 years I have owned a 1988'ish Alan which has been absolutely wonderful. It wss the first year they came out with the Shimano 600 tricolor group which tjen became Ultegra. Every single one of those components lasted for 30-plus years, as have my Dura Ace components on my on my 1992 Merlin Titanium. My Alan was the carbon fiber model, though. It had the really nice tapered lugs like the steel bikes, not the squarish "plumbing" lugswith the Alan logo stamped into the headtube and fork. Best endurance bike I ever owned - I put almost 150k miles on it. Super comfortable ride, although a bit flexy on steep uphills which would make it occasionally autoshift, especially when I had it in friction mode. I was a lightweight, so mostly a nonissue all those years - not a sprinters bike, though. Bringing it full circle to 2022, I finally retired my Alan and wanted something special - something different. I really like Colnago and Pinarello, but those are dime a dozen in my area. I stumbled upon Guerciottis new aero bike, and that is what I own now. I was having a bit of regret because I wanted a bit of a historical bike because that interests me. I did not know Guerciotti was around in the 1980's (I thought they started in the 90's) and am glad to see it has a bit more of a pedigree than I thought. Makes me feel better about my choice.

Beautiful bike. Those were the days when we could swap rear hub axles/spacing to accommodate different speed freewheels. Now it's a about the cassette freehub.

Still my favorite bike of all time. It is a joy to ride on long rides. My Alan is still going after 30+ years. A few of the components have been replaced and I have avoided the common cracked head tube issue, knock on wood, so far. I am surprised how many of these have survived given their early quality issues I heard rumors of. I got mine in the late 80s. I waited almost a year for it to arrive and it came in the wrong color. I still do not regret accepting the frame when it arrive though.

Nice build! The correct pronunciation is "Ger cho tee" Always curious how you find your parts in near NOS condition. The C rec derailleur in your window display, brake levers alone appear to be unused. Good for you!

Nice looking Guerciotti! How do bikes survive the decades with so little wear and tear? The Campy parts were the obvious choice, and they look great. I am a fan of the SunTour sealed derailleur pulleys, so it pleased me to see you install them. How was it that Campy never made ones so good?

I had a couple of second hand Alan frames back in the day before upgrading to a Vitus 979. The lugs and fork ends were prone to cracking. :( Is yours still fine? I’d be sure to give it a thorough inspection if you are going to be riding it.

I'm a big guy and inherited a Bridgestone Radac many years ago. I don't feel I'm abusing it with my weight but I don't ride it much because of its dimensions - it's a 57cm with a 55cm top tube.

I have that EXACT frameset. I have 3 Guercotti's. This burgundy strung up in Record C ( panagraphed) crank/ rear derailer, Super Record shifts, Super record headset, Chorus hubs, Record C brakes, Cinelli bar/ stem, yellow cables, San Marcos Rolls seat, Mavic M4's w/ Pirelli PZero 700c Follding Clinchers and Look pedals.

Met life is going to raise your life insurance premiums - owned two screwed and glued Alans : mid 80's frame and 91 record model . Top tube came unglued at headtube on older frame (drilled through lug and pinned it) don't recommend this repair. Downtube separated from headtube on newer model ( made a clamping jig and reglued with JB Weld and flex coat epoxy using hyperdermic needle injection - after two decades it still holds. Alans are lightweight cyclecross frames that flex on sprints and climbs - rear triangle bends and drivetrain upshifts. I weigh 154 and get in a full tuck on downhills, at 220 maybe not safe. Aero seatpost and white C record brakehoods with old super record grouppo is a no go mix for me - lack of style. Classic all super record or complete C- Record on the same bike looks better.
