I Found a Transfer Case! [ NP241 Rebuild Part 1 ]

In this video I buy and remove a dodge np241 transfer case to start the rebuild as well as starting an input shaft swap from 29 spline to 23 spline (the process is the same if doing the reverse). This transfer case will be used in my 12 valve fummins explorer swap project.
If you are wanting to swap a 29 spline input into your transfer case remember to check the size of the bearing since there are 2 bearing widths AND 2 spline counts to choose from.

I gotta give you one thing, putting that drive line in an explorer has to be one of the most creative ideas I've seen on RU-vid so far. You're the first guy to think it up, that I've seen. Having the nuts to even try it speaks volumes. I get you're trying to be thorough for the layman. But let's assume your viewers have a moderate amount of experience. Going over small details like you do, really takes way too much of your time and energy away from working on the given subject. Concentrate more on doing the task. You loose interest of viewers by turning the video into a lecture. You've obviously got skills. Yes, knowing why is a huge help to anybody. If you work on it, knowledge of it is needed. I've got 30 years of mechanics under my belt. I've ran dealership shops and my own business. You'd be a huge benefit to any shop. The idea of this forum is simple, entertain. Using the axels you've got shows forethought. I would've shortened them and had the shafts cut down or remade. Keep the width stock.

Thank you for the input, it's rare to receive such targeted and well thought out advice. You're not wrong, I do tend to over explain and youtube has a pretty sharp learning curve. There's always the balance between being informative and beating a dead horse and I'm hoping in my newer videos I did a better job of explaining the things that need explaining or are interesting, and leaving be the things that aren't. This video was a particularly tricky one since I sort of set it up as a vlog, but then filmed it as a how to. A HUGE number of people that view this video were searching for a how to which is why the view count is so high for me, but then like you said the retention is low and my normal audience would probably have just preferred a vlog and leaving out the nitty gritty details 🤷‍♂️. Always learning 😉

How close are the gear ratios of that gas transmission to the NV4500?

The ratios are the same on mine as on the cummins nv4500's. Its got the decently low first of 5.61:1, but not as low as you could get them at 6.34:1 on the early GM gas ones With 33's and 3.54's it should have the following ratios and speeds for shifting at 2.4k RPM 1st 5.61:1 at 10 mph 2nd 3.04 20 mph 3rd 1.67 40 mph 4th 1:1 70 mph 5th .75 90 mph at 2.4k rpm (2k rpm gives 75 mph)
