First Drives Are Frustrating

Build Something

On today's video I finally get to drive my Cummins swapped 4x4 project car around town. Unfortunately I had a couple breakdowns and some stuff needed fixed. This diesel swap Ford Explorer feels crazy to drive and in the end I think it's worth the frustration!
Now get out there and build something!

I have a radiator for an automatic in my manual transmission and ran the power steering fluid through the transmission cooler in the radiator. Works great.

I love this guy because he is doing the same idea as me and my buddy with very similar suspension and I’ve actually used some of his fab tips for my 4 link ttb

Thanks for watching. What's your dream project car, and what's stopping you from building it? ☺

Well my current project is a Frankenstein k20/k24 swapped drift ranger. I have an 8.8 in the rear out of an exploder and I've designed a 4-link and cantilever setup for it that will probably use r6 rear shocks and have the kinematics I want, as well as being easily adjustable for street vs light trail setup. I'm working on designing the front suspension around possibly a Corvette steering knuckle and for how custom the whole thing will be, a lot of my decisions come down to ease of finding parts if something breaks I didn't fabricate myself... most of my holdup at the moment is just practice and tooling for the fab work and the cost of everything. Hopefully I'll be starting to put up some videos soon myself and possibly build a bit of following to see if RU-vid can help me make the project more feasible, but most of the work I've done on the truck has just been restoring a bunch of stuff previous owners have ruined... including the rear axle, cause the 20" wheels the last guy had on it took the clutch and 7.5" axle out behind the shed.
@LifeInJambles
@LifeInJambles Год назад
Just the rear suspension alone will be at least a couple grand including the fuel cell I'll need in order to get the gas tank out of the way, and the engine swap will involve a plate to convert to LS-style transmission, that transmission, aftermarket intake plenum, custom exhaust, all the fuel lines and pressure regulator, and a standalone ECU for the things I want to do with the vehicle, and that's all before I even think of putting boost into it.. but each chunk of project should make it nicer one by one, so at least the vehicle isn't all work no reward until everything is done.

I have sooo many builds I want to do, but no room for any of it. Nowhere to tear something down to build, and nowhere to park when done. Plus very little ambition. One thing that I should really do is "build" my 1997 F250. It has the D50 TTB as well and could really use Solo Motorsport's coilover kit. Would love to do exhaust and a tuner on the 7.3l too. Plus some interior upgrades and finish the stereo. Will I though? That's the real question. 😂

@@amorton94 do a 4-link with canti coilovers! C'mon, it's what the cool kids are doing!
@amorton94
@amorton94 Год назад
@@LifeInJambles Nah, the Solo kit should be more than plenty to liven up this old best. Plus, it seems to be pretty straight forward. May switch up to coilovers someday, but IDK, might just save that money for a dedicated offroad build.

It’s worth it. You’ll have issues to solve as I have with my Cummins swapped f150. I need to bring my truck out your way sometime, I want to see this explorer in person!

Let me know if you ever plan a trip down to SE Idaho 😅. It would be cool to see the F150 as well.

@@BuildSomethingAuto that may happen in the next couple of months. I’m due for an Idaho trip. The truck is featured on both of my channels, it was built on the channel I’m commenting with and it’s freshly featured on my Bullford82 channel. Check it out!

I remember the first drive after I did my first swap I wa way over confident and had to be towed back. It was so heart breaking. After another two months I was able to drive it pretty reliable. Keep it up

A 1960's D200 Sweptline crew cab over my 98 12v Cummins extended cab long bed. Space, time, and money. And I still need to source the cab. God willing, one day I'd love to build it with my sons.

Based on some my experience. Project vehicles are interesting, always a bit of learning curb but you need to have tons of time and budget to get your project vehicle build up to drive. Btw, great video. Cheers!

Found your channel looking up modified radius arms for a ttb axle but I stuck around just to watch the cool Cummins explorer build. Congrats on getting it on the road. I know guys that have cars that have been on jack stands since before 2010, lol.

Awesome man 👍 good luck with the fuel problem. I’m sure it’s something simple that will be annoying to find. That’s how mechanical diesels are. You inspired me to do the 6 link ttb like yours but with air ride! On my 86 f350. I’m still working threw loads of other projects before I dive in head deep. Currently my Miata is under the knife getting turboed once it’s back up and running good I can justify ripping into the truck!

Dude, you're an inspiration to me. My dream project is to take my stock, 2wd automatic 89 Bronco II and convert it to 4wd manual...and also make it fully electric! Steering, brakes, and AC too! It's just a matter of time until I can start. It's going to take a long time, I'm going to make so many screwups, and I can't friggin wait. Ps, you're the only subscription I have the bell turned on for.

Its been a while since I originally filled it and decided on which fluid so I dont remember exactly, but I believe on a 12 valve the owners manual states not to use ATF. Later cummins i believe do though.
