Join me as I head to the Ohio River in search of anything from the past on this sifting adventure. We hit the honey hole of Artifacts , Arrowheads, Marbles and even have a run-in with a rabid raccoon.
Sir, these videos are so much fun. I used to hunt with my dad on hunting trips in South Georgia and fishing trips in North Georgia. Very amateur stuff, but amazing memories. He past away two years ago and I’m still slowly going through his stuff and I FOUND OUR discoveries. Cleaned them up one night and it really sparked the fever again. I’m 38 now and have a son (12) and daughter (17) of my own. We went out together for the first time ever with no direction or plan, and ended up in N. Ga. along the Etowah River and the original section of the Trail of Tears. Didn’t find anything, but I didn’t bring any shovels or anything. Just surface looking. You’re giving me lots of ideas and I’m learning a ton. Thanks for the content! If you ever want some hunting partners, we’ll drive up! 😂 Congrats on these finds here. Beautiful stuff!
New subscriber here, You find such awesome finds. My mother would look for arrow heads at the lake and in the plowed garden after a rain. I follow a few hunters and have a collection of my own. I am Cherokee decent. I love this. Thank you for all you do. Clegg's Adventures. Benge watching your videos.
Great to see you back out on the river. Awesome finds my friend. You had a great day! No matter how grown up we get we can always be a kid again just by getting outdoors and seeing what treasures we can find. How can anyone not love that? Thanks for sharing your adventures with us and taking the time to make a good entertaining video.
I enjoy your channel and I have always collected Arrowheads by different ways. I live in North Alabama where there are several dammed up waterways operated or built By TVA ( Tennessee Valley Authority), a Federal government agency. Over the last few years a federal law (s) and some state laws have been past that makes removing artifacts illegal in many areas. Signs are posted on lakes operated by TVA advising people of the law not to remove Indian artifacts. TVA is actively recruiting people to report people and be notified of exposed artifact sites and then the TVA covers these sites up with large rocks Not to say that many people tying their shoe would not be tempted to pick up a $5000.00 Clovis spearhead laying on the ground. For anyone who wants to know more about these laws they could google Federal and State laws prohibiting removal of Indian Artifacts . I do not believe these laws apply to private property.
I don’t understand these laws. We have a similar law, but it only applies to the Islands on the Ohio River. Maybe they’re afraid people are gonna start digging holes and stuff. But, I just don’t see where Surface Hunting hurts anything
I grew up between Columbus and Portsmouth Ohio. Muchos corn and soybean country. When the farmers would plow there fields, all the kids would walk behind him and you just wouldn’t believe the collection of artifacts found in this manner. Love your channel…new subscriber! Your awesome my friend!
I enjoy these videos I am a paralyzed vet now and can’t get to these locations anymore. So your taking me on these adventures withy You! Pretty cool. I have study the native american cultures all my life. I was in a Special Forces unit when injured. So I have a great interest in ancient weaponry and the means in which they survived by hunting and gathering.honestly I feel like I was born in the wrong year..
This was a really good video! Im already addicted to metal detecting and looking for native American artifacts but watching your channel has just made me even more fired up to spend as much time as possible out looking! Your lucky to live near a major river though.... I'm a little jealous of you there. Lol Keep up the great work!!!
Marbles were likely used as slingshot ammo from kids over the years, anything that size and halfway round work good, probably why some are broken in half
So, no joke here. I was watching your videos earlier today and I commented that never had found an arrow head. I decided to go to river and take my screen. I found an arrow head!!!! Going back tomorrow to see what else I can find!!!!
Not sure if you were already told why the water lowers when barges come through yet. But they pull the water into the engine to cool them. I was told about it when I was in kayaking the inlets down at the beach maybe 20 years ago lol
There used to be an old 1800’s house just above. I get everything from 10,000 years ago till modern time. Found several old bottles and things in there too.
The bow of the barge pushes water ahead of it and the prop pushes water behind it. Big ships can lower the water several feet stranding fish on the beach. In the Gulf of Mexico people run out and scoop up the fish. Just found your channel and love it!
So glad to see you again!!! Also, I see you have something on your head to protect you from the sun!!! I once recommended you wear a hat cause I was concerned about your head blistering. Lol. All foolishness aside- loved watching your videos- and how you educate us as you go- wonderful videos- and your sense of humor brings a smile every time!!!!
Thank You so much Maggie, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to get out but hopefully soon again. I try to always keep sunscreen on my ears when it’s sunny. Right now, in winter, sun doesn’t hit very hard. It’s always way low in the sky. ❤️
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Your enthusiasm and excitement is infectious. I used to find marbles now and then when I metal detected. A lot of fun as well.
I used to hunt points at some mounds in East Texas . Now they are protected by they State.Wish I would of keep all of the pot shards I found. This guy is fantastic.
What does someone actually use those dart points for ? I mean, how much "game" was there to kill 3,000 yrs ago in that area ? With all your finds, it's amazing they made so many points...arrowheads too.
I’m 71 years old and used to be marble games/ competitions when I was in elementary school and we called the marbles you refer to as swirls we knew them a cat eyes. Simple times serious competition at recess!
@@cleggsadventures can you point me in the right direction of the Ohio river to base my searches on? I'm really new to this and have hooked onto your videos alot and I'd love to actually be able to find something but I'm unsure as to what part of the river to actually look. Some advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I love watching your adventures. Born and raised in Weirton, moved to New Cumberland 46 years ago - can see the Ohio from my house. Been a local history buff for years (amazing how much history there is). Never knew I could go half a mile from my house and do what you do. My dad found a spear point and large arrow head? in our garden on Marland Heights in Weirton. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever heard of a book called "Dark and Bloody River"? It's a history book of the Ohio. You have to read it.
When there’s a tsunami water is pulled off the beach then the big wave comes in. On a small scale when a barge goes by it’s like a mini tsunami. Water is pulled out then the waves come in.
Shovel in hand... you head for the shore. Found some nice points... and a little more. You missed your calling... you should of been an actor. On your next job hunt... that career you should factor. I love your videos... they make me smile. I know that to make it... it took you awhile. 🤪😉🤛
@@cleggsadventures seriously bub, you make excellent videos. It's hard to do with one person. When Jenny is with me its easier to joke around and have fun. But you got the one man show mastered. Keep up the good work. I'm heading out to hunt now. This will be my forth hunt. Hope to find enough to throw a video together tonight. ✌
.Cultural vestiges of different stages in the history of the different groups, indigenous, colonizers and contemporaries. Good video my friend and beautiful places.
Not only did natives live on the flats above, but there have been houses there for probably 200 years. Not the same houses, but several houses though time.
It really makes you wonder just how many points were found and reshaped or reused? They keep backing up how long people have been here, so a 6k year-old spear point might have been used by dozens of people and changed over the centuries.
There don't appear to be many small round stones in the area. Could the marbles have been used for ammunition for a sling shot hunting ducks? Surely kids weren't playing marbles on the shore.
This stuff isn’t lost on the shore. It’s lost on the flat field above. The river knocks parts of the field away each big flood, ultimately it washes to the beach below. Everything from 10,000 years to modern
Why are there such perfect arrowheads existing there. I would think they were valuable to the hunters. Were they lost still attached to a wayward arrow or were they discarded due to a missed shot making them "bad medicine"? '

Man I’m so darn happy I found your station. I just recently found my first 2 . 1 arrowhead and 1 scraper. Now I have the fever, I wish I could find some spots like this to check around me. Got cancer and I’m not able to do too much but I’m going to try hard. I’m 53 and can’t wait for the weather to cool off so I can get out. Best station I follow , you’re doing a great thing for guys like me.
You found the China Crystal Skull! It was the last missing skull to make up the set of 13 that makes Time Travel.... Teleporting and endless reruns of My Little Margie on you I phone possible. Plus Albert Einstein will come to your house and sing Swanee River acapella. awesome ! Thanks for the adventure.
I used to enjoy working on the towboats on the Ohio River. The powerful props cause big roller wakes behind the boat. That probably causes the sucking away from the bank. Water can be pulled up three and four feet depending on the speed and the river bottom depth.
You had a good day sifting, with a couple of killer points and lots of other artifacts. There must have been an old dump there too, because you are getting a lot of marbles. I seldom find any marbles while sifting.
All these marble! Has to be somewhere near Paden City! I still have a collection somewhere from all the marbles I collected near the plant and river. Always was a find see which I dug up next!
thank you for the great show. Like it when you stop to look at the ground hog hole, or was it a racoon den?? And the geese, thanks for showin them. Protect our trees. Dont cut live old growth trees. Trees give us so much, the air we breathe, shade on a warm day and they help keep the earth cool and moist. We could not build our homes and cities w/o trees. Our earth would be like a dessert w/o trees. All trees are trees of life.
That blue one could be rare... i have some that look like those that my daddy had... he was born in 1924... nice one there the arrow head... i have all my dads marbles but no blue. One
Great artifacts, good information , good humor, Iam still laughing about the making it on a hillside lol!! very good video. You take care and happy hunting.
Thanks for that info! I always wondered that. Every time we would fish on bottom for catfish, when a barge would go by, it would pull the line tight and the water would drop a few inches
Scott awesome production!!! Great saves you had a phenomenal day!!! All great points!!! I’d really like to see those close up, I know the GP it’s not great for that maybe a clean up at the end?? Did you consider adding another camera to your adventures? Was the doorag for goose poo protection? Lol great job glad to see you back sifting!!
I’m originally from Kanawha County, WV but live in NC now. Used to hunt arrowheads in Buffalo, WV when I was a kid. I have a house in Pocahontas County, WV where I spend time in the summer. Have found arrowheads in the backyard when my neighbor used to have a garden there. There’s a creek that runs behind the house. Never thought to sift through the gravel in the creek. You have opened up a whole new hobby for me! Love your videos!
Any place named Buffalo should have big points. Near Ashland, Ky here, barges and tow/push boats really churn the water. I love the sound of the ground and water vibrating as they pass by.
I’m from south central WV but also have a house in Pocahontas County. Two creeks come together at the front corner of my property there and I have found fossils in the creeks but no artifacts. I do have a piece of pinkish colored coral from another location in Pocahontas County. It’s hard to imagine coral in those mountains. As a note of interest, there is a lava outcrop a few miles of south of Sugar Grove, WV in Pendleton County. Lava is something else you wouldn’t expect to find in those mountains.
The pieces you call “ bird points” are much bigger than the ones we find here in Missouri. Those you’re calling bird points we’d call arrowheads, in the truest sense. That beauty would be on an arrow shaft with a bow.
Marbles were a big thing back in the day and there were several factories making them in this area. Lots of old houses were along the river, And I believe there was one just above where I usually hunt. I find lots of bottles and rusted metal in there also. If you can locate an old small town dump, you can find a lot of them. Thanks for watching James and thanks for the comment. Much Appreciated 👍
Awesome, so many different finds in one area. When you find points accumulated in one area like that, do you think they were usually throwing it at deer and other game because it's all along a riverbank? Or could they even have used them for spear fishing?
These artifacts were accumulated over many centuries. From the things I find, I would say it was a village. Many villages over centuries. A lot of things can be dropped or left behind over 12,000 years. They probably fished here but I’d say it was more habitats than hunting grounds.
Scott we look forward to spring and more adventures and arrowheads thanks for your advice Longisland produces artifacts takes a little work thanks again Erik
Have a question. How would you look for artifacts in a smaller stream? Or better yet in the big cannon river near cannon falls Minnesota? It's in my area and I've looked a lot
@@cleggsadventures yes you have very good how to video. I've watched almost all of them. But I have put on miles in the shallow rock bars,. Walked the edge of the river there many times and I still get skunked,. Ok thanks for your advice and your great videos
I just started watching. Great channel. Keep 'em coming. The only improvement, right there on the river, would be to throw a fishing line out while you're there. It would be sure to double your audience. Give us a couple
@@davidmultari4555 If you believe what that guy says, you obviously don’t know his track record. Ask any arrowhead hunting channel that’s been around a while, they’ll fill ya in. This guy slanders everyone doing better than him, in hopes they’ll say his name on their channel. He’ll get no plug from me. He’s a like a jealous juvenile, not worth my time. Funny how he’s all quiet until I have a good video…. Then the stories start up again. I’m not going to defend myself from these lies every time I put a video out. Ask him why he’s on probation? Ask to see all this “so called” evidence on me stalking. You’ll get none or you’ll be ignored.
@@cleggsadventures I appreciate you replying. This is sad , I really enjoy watching both of you guys. I just don’t understand why all of you RU-vid guys can’t get along and learn from each other. Jealousy is definitely the root of all evil.
