I loved watching your videos on your Jaguar XF. I bought a 2011 Jaguar XF 3.0 litre Sport Portfolio pre-face lift, with now 32,500 miles, around the same time. I've watched all your repairs and upgrades videos. Your videos are very informative and they helped me carry out repairs and upgrades on my own Jaguar. I keep all your videos for reference for future repairs. Thank you and keep up producing your excellent videos.

Nice to see a new video from you it’s such a shame about the condition your first XF is in. Someone clearly did not look after it and those scratches are just heartbreaking in my opinion. That why I never want to see a car I have previously owned in case it’s not been looked after.

Really enjoyed your Jaguar XF videos - I've done 133k miles in my 3.0 S premium luxury, I've owned it for 10years. I also saw your woes with the MkII - I came to your videos pondering buying a MkII ... seriously thinking of not making that move. I have loved my MkI XF, best car I ever owned. But low emission zones here in the UK mean it's not welcome in many citiy centres.

If you really want a mark 2, I would say go for the facelifted version which was produced in limited numbers before Jag pulled the plug. They lifted the quality of interior materials and brought it up where the Mark1 used to be with the tech it offers. But I would just stick with a lower mileage mark 1 to be honest I will probably buy another one in the near future to save but never an X260 again. It didn't have any soul.

My first Jag was (and still is because I haven't sold it yet for reasons I'll go into) the 3.0ltr V6 petrol premium luxury, it appeared in your fan showcase video and I sent the poem "a cat amongst the Pigeons" with it which you read out. I've lavished love and attention on that car, having most of the rear suspension set up poly bushed as well as the front Caster arms. I was scrupulous with maintenance and had the gearbox serviced at 85,000 miles as recommended. That however proved to be the cars downfall, the gearbox that is, it started missing gears on the downshift then upshift, I tried reprogramming I tried a new Gear selection module all to no avail, I eventually got the gearbox completely rebuilt at a cost of £5000 and guess what, it still has the same if not worse problems. It's back with the gearbox specialist now. Meanwhile I got so pussed off with the car that I went on Autotrader and found a late 2012 3.0ltr supercharged XJ portfolio with only 16,000 miles, a full service history and one owner from new for £19,000. I test drove it and it drove like a brand new car and what a car it is. I bought it straight away. The original bill of sale was with it and it cost in 2012 £67,500 so I'm happy. As for the XF either the gearbox people will sort it completely or I'll get money back, if the latter I'll sell the car for £1500-£2000 but if the former then I'll sell for £6500. It really is the best example of it's type and year and it's been maintained to the limit.

Hello Hilton, good to see you again and hear the latest news on your first Jag. Must admit, I often track the history of my past cars and via published annual MOT tests that are obligatory here in the UK. I can still see my XE but my beloved XF must now have a personalised registration plate and I can no longer locate it. Always a shame to see one of your past cars slipping towards oblivion, but hey it's no longer yours and the current owner can do with it as they please. Any thoughts about a new Jag, say a F type convertible................
@carfanfan
@carfanfan Год назад

Lovely to see you back making a video about your old Jaguar, Hilton. Jaguars do capture our hearts, they are much more than a means of transportation. I totally agree about the curves on that beautiful bonnet (US: hood). Your interior shots look exactly like the interior of my own XF 3.0d Premium Luxury before I sold her. What a great car to sit in, let alone drive! That is an impressively thorough condition report on your old car. Sadly, that car would need a lot of TLC before it gets back to the standard at which you sold it. It really shows how much difference a careful, considerate owner makes! Drive safe!
@carfanfan
@carfanfan Год назад
Hey Michael, yeah, it really made me sad to see it in that poor a mechanical condition and the rust shocked me to my core. It never would have rusted if I'd kept it. I just thought whoever bought it would care for it like I did but sadly they just took care of the services. I wouldnhave done way more for it. But life must go on and I guess some day I might have one that can have smaller wheels and thicker tires to cover with our poor roads.

Great to see another video from you! That gray jaguar was such a head turner. I bought an Audi a6 and have had so much trouble with it, thinking about selling it and going back to Jaguar. Theres a 4.2 V8 XF for sale here, do you have any experience with these engines? Does anybody know if theres a different (stronger?) gearbox for these cars too?
@carfanfan
@carfanfan Год назад
I had an A6 many years ago and spent 4 times more repairing it than it was worth. I sold it eventually even though I loved that car, but my bank balance has never looked healthier 😄. The V8 4.2 is a good engine, naturally aspirated is the way to go. The superchargers are a pain. They need maintenance which is expensive as the couplers usually go after 60k miles. As long as you change the engine oil regularly you won't have issues. Don't change that oil and it will throw a piston through the block. I saw 3 at my dealer 5 years ago. All 3 of them holes in the block due to poor maintenance. Never seen an oil change in 3 years. One was a 4.2 and the other 2 were 5.0L. Due to using synthetic oil, the oil degrades when it gets hot and becomes like thick grease. The friction increases and eventually a cobrod goes through the block as it breaks. That will happen to any car using synthetic oil though. But with regular oil changes and oil filter changes, they are solid.

The mk1 facelift 2011 to 2015 is also the best looking with a nicer interior than the MK2. The mk3 has more tech but I would not buy one with the later 2.0 diesel engines.....and I work at JLR!!!!

Hi Hilton. Looks like your old XF hasn't had the same level of TLC it did under your ownership - some of the items are wear and tear but I reckon the leather dash would be expensive to fix due to the dismantling involved. Strange about the rust bubbles on the door - I've heard of a couple of cases in the UK, one person even managed to make a claim against JLR. Isn't the climate in SA a lot drier though? Interested in the prices of Jag's in SA - I have a very similar XF to your old one with the petrol engine (quite rare in the UK) and I would say prices a bit higher in the UK. Prices here have been crazy the last year but I think are starting to drop now.
@carfanfan
@carfanfan Год назад
Hey Steve. The rust shocked me. Our weather is fairly hot here so the rust perplexes me. We don't get snow so no salting of roads. I think whoever owned it lived on the beach. The dash wouldn't be an issue for me. Easy to pull out and have recovered properly or throw in a good used one. But the ECU issue was a big one for me. Hard to tell what's going on there.
@steveegginton535
@steveegginton535 Год назад
@@carfanfan Think that can be the only explanation for the rust! A few classic cars from SA turn up in the UK - they are popular as they are often rust free due to your climate. Never really looked at what's involved in removing the dash. Agree with you that the ECU could open a huge can of worms!

I don't know of this being a common problem, but since you have the same issue in the same place, maybe it is. The vents also use stepper motors to open and close, these exact same motors are all over the hvac unit to move air from feet to vents to windshield or left and right. If your ac is set on cold and it's blowing hot on the driver's side, then the stepper motor directing air to the drivers side is faulty. If you remove the glove box you might be able to get access to the faulty stepper motor but a diagnostic will also tell you which one is faulty. If it doesn't, the electronics of the motor are fine but just the plastic gear the motor drives to open and close is broken. I'd still install a complete motor though.

Hi question what torx sizes are common you have used while working on your XF I have a regulator issue it is dropping the window but not raising it square

@carfanfan Год назад
Hey. Sorry, only saw this now. 27 was mostly used around the car. But also 30, so not sure what they would have used for the regulator. But at a guess, I'd say 27.

It can be quite upsetting to see your old car again, particularly if you have looked after it very well and the new owner does not care.

Why did you sell the car?
@carfanfan
@carfanfan Год назад
I kept having issues hitting potholes and had to replace wheels tires etc. I became fed up with dealing with all that. Then I bought a Mazda CX5 and then we moved to a city where the roads were better, so I bought another Jag andbthen the XFR. But then the roads got worse due to bad weather so I went back to an SUV.

@@carfanfan I see. Could have you fitted smaller wheels to the car made a difference?

I sold it because the mileage was getting high. In hindsight, it was a dumb move 😊

110,000 miles is nothing on a modern car like this providing maintenance has been kept up with.

Absolutely, but the smell inside and ECU not talking to the OBD connector I foresee major issues with my old car now.

Hilton you should now buy the Mercedes ML class
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 3 месяца назад
I'll be honest, I've looked at the ML. But unfortunately, they all have very high mileage with no service history. Owners don't maintain them, and when they break, just sell them to some poor guy who is in for a world of hurt.

@@carfanfan ok so I’ll take that as a suggestion, coz I was looking for a ML but wasn’t sure, thats when I saw your Jaguar videos 😊
