Great to see this. Thanks for saving another British gem. I restored a 3500S about 15 years ago but changed the colour to Monza red from white, put the SD1 5speed in it, much more aggressive cam and heavier springs all round. It was a joy to drive, made all the right noises and even embarrassed some younger cars on the flowing Phillip Island race track in Victoria Australia. Great car & I misss it, but the engine note of my current Stag is probably better!

Very interesting thank you. This may interest you...Mexico Brown Rover's were a popular choice with the Mexican Embassy London...all chauffeur driven and impeccably maintained. I owned two Rover P5 both in Mexico brown and both owned by the Embassy. If there is an indication of an extra hole where the Mexican Embassy flag may be have been installed then that is what you have. Surrey is close to London and where a number of ex Embassy cars are sent to auction.

Greetings from Taiwan 🇹🇼. Years ago I had a Rover P5B Coupe 3.5 litre V8 in admiralty blue with chrome Rostyle alloy wheels with black painted inserts. It was my pride and joy back then, I also had a red 1974 Rover V8s and eventually ended up buying the SD1 vitesse version 1996 in moonraker blue. I also went on to purchase a 2nd Rover vitesse but this was the 800 series 2ltr turbo in metallic red and that was a 4dr version. This vehicle was particularly troublesome for me especially when it suffered an internal catastrophic gearbox failure at 24,000 miles. The car was transported to my local Rover dealer, gearbox removed which was stripped down, all parts were laid out and these were to be inspected by a Team of Rover technicians from the actual Rover factory. I never did get to find out the exact cause of the failure but Rover UK agreed to replace its clutch and its 5 speed gearbox free of charge BUT I had to take care of the labor costs. The day I collected the car after its repairs I hadn't traveled even 20 miles when the car lost total drive, it would go into the gears but nothing at the wheels. It was AGAIN transported back to the Rover dealer and when they inspected the car they informed me that their technician had installed the incorrect seals and therefore the driveshafts were incorrectly seated, not all the way into the gearbox, the 2 driveshafts had also been damaged as a result of this and Rover ended up fitted 2 new driveshafts. How crazy is that. I sold the 800 series as I no longer trusted it and I bought a Cadillac Eldorado convertible 8.2 litre V8 front wheel drive. Stay safe, respect from Taiwan.

Hi, according to James Taylors book on the P6, leather seats were an option even on the S. I have a 1974 S, ordered new in UK by an Aussie and black leather was ticked in the option list along with quite a few other items on that list. This car now resides in Sydney, whilst the leather is nice, looks and smells terrific, I think I'd have preferred the black box-pleat brushed nylon seats - they hold you better.

The Rover P6 is a nice car that still looks a beaut today. It’s a shame the original tooling that made the body panels wasn’t saved or salvaged from somewhere so enthusiasts could remake the shell again but using metals that aren’t prone to chronic rust. In comparison to the MGB, you can buy entire new shells but I can’t understand why nobody kept the original tooling for the P6 when it was iconic like the MGB.

My father bought a new 3500 V8S back in 1974 .... It was Monza Red, a manual, with ribbed black leather trim all round and power steering .... It had a metal spoked steering wheel and where the speaker was, it had a V8S badge there .... One of the favourite extras to have been fitted at the time was Dunlop Denovo Radial Tyres .... A beautiful motor, as I drove it many times .... He part exchanged it in 1986 for a new W126 Mercedes 420 S class .... Another beautiful car which stayed with him until he passed away in 2011 ....
