I remember my dad had one of these (1979) loved the smell of the interior and going on holidays back in the day. He passed away with Covid last September nearly a year ago, I know he will be smilling watching this - he loved his old cars - I think his favourite was his Triumph 2000 with overdrive. Thank's for posting

So glad you rescued this car. It is famous to all of us who live in Whitefield / Prestwich. It has been sat at prominent traffic lights for ages. Please pass on our best wishes to the previous owner. Please restore this car. I wanted to do it but was unsuccessful. Lets hope you can drive it back to Whitefield so the previous owner can see it. Do a "CAR SOS" thing.

Wonderful video, so great to see that you are trying to rescue these beautiful cars from being scrapped. With enough time and some money this looks like it could be a great example of the series 2 P6, and they are lovely cars to drive and be driven in. I've had three since 1978, a 1968 series one, and two different 1972 series two cars. Sadly space and time stop me from currently owning a P6.

That four banger sounds wonderful. I was stationed in England '89-'92 and don't recall seeing one of these models. Very unique looking. There are quite a few Land Rover SUVs here in Kansas City even though I believe they are very expensive to buy and maintain.

I never understood the Kenlow fan thing - always a popular option. I had both the 2200TC and the V8S, and neither overheated. And as for saying that the P6 wasn't designed for the V8, it wasn't designed for the 4 pot, either. It was designed for the gas turbine. The V8 was made of aluminium and at the time perhaps people were worried that - if it did overheat - it would warp expensively, a common problem with the Shag, but never, in my experience, with the Rover engines.

My dad had two of these as I was growing up, the first was green and had black seats, he blew that up doing a burnout in it though! .. Second was a mustard yellow with tan interior. We took that everywhere and they had it until it rotted away to the point it was not weldable any more. good memorys indeed of both cars! :)

She has some serious potential, this wee beasty. Please try to keep the Webasto (Britax / whatever) when yu sort the roof.....if possible. It's a uniquely British thing and I think it adds something (besides water to the interior if the seals aren't maintained) to the class of the vehicle. A quick check of the VIN plate will give you the paint code for the original colour if you're interested in confirming what it was originally, but they DO look so good in white - especially with a black roof and the S wheel trims. I've always wondered why you created the new channel. Is it mentioned in any of the videos?

With no fan you get a faster warm-up especially in winter... back then people would blank off a lot of the front grill area to stop excess freezing air blowing in. Also there is fan noise at higher RPM / speeds when the fan is not needed, which is why slipping viscous fans came in with the SD1s as well as Stags, TR7s etc.

Hello mate yes they are ok in the P6 but they did suffer with overheating issues. I would have to disagree with you on the best engine they are dirty engines that love to block up breathers and eat camshafts and as for tuning 400HP is about it. Probably the worst car I've ever owned. It was as thirsty as hell, handled like a kipper in a frying pan and compared to other 2.0 litre cars of the time was glacierly slow. These cars were a perfect example of why the British motor industry was knackered. Just saying!

@@classic_britain it was right, it was perfect (for a P6) it had less than 40k on the clock when I bought it from a serving police officer and it had been maintained religiously by the local rover dealer. It rolled on corners because it was so heavy, did about 20 mpg and it was slower than my brothers Mk3 cortina. I know old duffers liked them because they were British but they were never a good car. I bought one because I remember my uncle having one when I was a kid but I should've spoken to him first because the first time he saw it he laughed and asked me why I had bought it, turned out that he'd had a volvo before but fancied a rover because they used them on Z cars or the sweeney? He only had it for a few months before he got rid and bought another volvo.
