to easily scare away owls, you can string up cans bewteen trees by the coop, they hate the noise of them in the wind and refuse to fly near it. Ive had issues with them before, and this kept them away. like so Flair can see this

So I used to raise chickens (hundreds and hundreds) and I had a family of great horned owls on my property. Between them and the hawks I was losing 3 to 5 chickens per evening. Can;t kill them, so I eventually solved my problem. I got 2 Great Pyrenees dogs. I used the electric net fencing (8 of the 164' lengths) The dogs would patrol the perimeter of the brood pens, but they lived among the full size birds. Never lost a bird after that. One other thing you can try is put out a coyote decoy. Eventually they will figure it out though. You will want to move it every day. BTW I have seen flocks of geese walking around those coyote decoys after a few weeks, so the animals will get smart to it.

You need to get a guard goose, they are aggressive and will protect the flock. Check out Justin Rhodes on RU-vid he makes farm videos and it the chicken ninja master

An owl or hawk decoy can work, Perching spikes and night lights may help. You can try getting a rooster as well they’ve been known to fight off dogs , foxes and hawks. You need to make sure to look into the species you get though. Certain ones are more known to fight off predators more than others they will also alert you of hawks and other predators. They'll herd the hens and alert the flock of danger and get them to seek shelter.

Eagles and hawks kill owls ON SIGHT! I guess it's a competition thing. Only the biggest of owls come out in the daytime because they can fight back (Great Snowy Owl, Eagle Owls etc.).

Owls do regurgitate but unless it was a very small chicken or duck an owl wouldn't kill them. They regurgitate the bones fur and the parts they can't digest

Couple things Put motion sensor lights on the edge of the pen shining in. The more uncomfortable you make it for the owl he won’t want to come back. Keep beefcake Tom in the pen, turkeys alert gobble around owls and a turkey his size would be a real challenge for even a great horned owl! Last thing and I don’t advise this on camera 😂 airsoft gun will really piss it off without a chance of killing it

Great advice also get with the game warden. There is livestock protection laws. They will come trap or even kill the owl if needs be.

Last year, I collected owl pellets from my grandparents' ranch. These pellets mainly came from barn owls, but also great horned owl pellets as well. Related to what John said, I brought these pellets to my 5th-grade science class and we mainly found the bones of mice and shrews. I love every single video that you and the others make!!!

we've lost quite a few chickens to owls and hawks. the only way to fully protect them is to put a top cover on your pens. Owls and hawks do primarily hunt rabbits and mice so they're used to taking down fairly good sized game and hawks will take down pretty much any bird smaller than a Canadian goose (although there is a RU-vid video of one taking a Canadian down and getting beat up pretty badly before finally killing it).

You can buy radios and have them playing out there 24/7 and any animals will think it’s humans talking so they will avoid the area and you just turn them off when your filming so you don’t get copyrighted and turn them back on when you leave

Hi guys Here in the UK when we have duck pens or when we have partridge release pens on the shoot we put a predator net over the top of the pens to stop flying predators .the net is light but very strong like a fishing net .look it up on poultry or farming supplies on google , good luck Robbo

Flair, READ THIS. IVE KILLED AN OWL that was killing our chickens. Dig a hole and put in a tall post near the duck pen. After that, put a foot trap on the top of the pole with a dead mouse or small rat on the pressure plate as bait and wait. You will get it very quickly.

I've heard owls sometimes rip the heads off of there prey. Also adult great horned owls they have no serious predators, sometimes they can be killed by golden eagles, or goshawks. Foxes, bobcats, coyotes or domestic cats, can kill an owl if it was caught out in the open while mantling over prey. so if you put Milly out there with more prey on the trail cams, maybe Milly could kill it. It was just an "ACCIDENT" to (laughing emoji)

I wouldn't let milly at it. I just had to take my dog to the vet he killed a rabbit but it bit a huge chunk of flesh off his face under his ear. I'm sure an owls talons could do damage to milly

i have chickens myself and we’ve had an owl take the heads off of our chickens and we caught the owl in the act and killed it, you can kill an owl if it’s harming your livestock, ask any game warden

First two things that come to mind are 1) a good guard dog. Raise it with the birds from a puppy so it’s used to them and knows it’s job is to protect, 2) build a fully enclosed pen for them that way nothing can get to them.

One hell of great horn owl there man, we dissected owl pellets in middle school. We use owl sound to locate turkeys out hunting. Great horn owls will go after turkeys too

Hey flair! Put a radio near your pen and keep it on all the time and the owl fox and coyotes will leave it alone. They dont like noise. It worked for our chickens and my buddies dad that did the same

I have a tiny bit larger area for my hens and had trouble with predator birds both big owls and hawks and eagles, biggest is white tailed eagle on a daily basis. I use the green cheap nylon fruit tree net over my coop. In the middle i put a thin T shaped pole to give hight. keeps the birds in and predator birds out. It doesnt weigh much and can be fastened with Zip Tie Cords My net lasted 3 years before I had to replace it after scortching sun and truckloads of snow.

Buy a manikin and hang old CDs on pieces of string you have to move physical deterants every few days or the bird will start to realise there not dangerous and of your other options is diversionary feeding places long food out every day at a point where only birds can reach it

Flair try putting some kind of small device in the holes that makes some sort of sound by the traps to attract something just enough to bait something in to the hole anykind of device that might attract the coyotes from a distance so they come check out what it is ill find you something if you want

Run fishing line or rope zig sagged across the top so it can dive bomb them , I've seen people do it before and it works

Just get big LED lights in point them to the sky because they have big eyeballs made for the dark and they will not like the bright light shining at their eyes

Use three strands of hotwire. One on the inside to keep the goats from rubbing the fence. One along the top of the posts to keep Ricky Racoon out & one about 6 inches from the bottom on the outside to keep them yodel pups from digging into it to get to the animals.

Sink a tall (10-15ft) post into the ground in the chicken enclosure, then run rope or fishing line from the post to all the trees around to make a sort of net the birds won’t want to fly through to get at the chickens and ducks, I’ve seen it used to keep seagulls and pigeons away from beaches and pools

Try getting a mule or jackass and put it in with goats. They are used the deter prey animals. Their Brey is scary to almost all animald

Owls are the night hunters and eagles and hawks are day hunters. I wonder if you put up an old fashioned scarcrow- type thing in the pen with the fowl, if that would work. You could put lots of shiny streamers hanging from it that blow in the wind to create the idea of movement. Dont know if it would work, but it used to work for farmers in the old days to keep crows away.

You have to have a permit to kill owls and they have to be threatening your animals. After you kill the owl im pretty sure that you have to turn it in to the feds. Do that or just shoot, shovel, and shut up (I don't advise doing this tho)
