Have a 10x13 guide series. After 3 years of use, a really bad storm caused a rip in it. All I had to do was go to the warranty section on their website, show the damage and logo on the tarp in the same picture, and proof of purchase. 1 week later, I received a brand new tarp. A great company, a great product! Thanks for turning me onto this product.

how many people have proof of purchase after 3 years? just curious, i bet a lot of folks don't and I'm curious if that would have voided your replacement

thanks luke for the product review. it gives me great confidence that I'm purchasing an item that you stand highly by. i don't recall how many tarps I've purchased & been disappointed in. wind & rain here at the oregon coast can be brutal so when your camping for 10 days you expect your camping gear to perform its best. when the grommets on your tarp tears it just pisses you off. so I'm purchasing the AquaQuest for our camping trip this august I will let you know how well the tarp did😉

I've had a 10X10 AquaQuest Guide for over 5 years now and I use it several times a year. It has seen everything from alpine snowstorms to coastal rainstorms and I've never had any issues with it. Even with a 10X10 there are ways to pitch the tarp to fit 2 people and also be sheltered from blowing rain. I actually proposed to my wife under it with a rainstorm rolling over!

I am an old(er) woman that loves to kayak/camp. I am preparing for a 10 day water/camp trek of 82 miles and I need a decent tarp that can withstand the elements. I will probably purchase this tent...because I will be doing more and more adventures and decent gear will not have to be replaced often. Thank you for this review.

If you're kayaking and don't have to worry so much about the weight as you would do for backpacking, the Safari tarp might be the better option.

getting a longer than you think tarp for camping allows you to Make the ends into doors for a third wall to block wind and they are not that bad at all for weight. I am out of shape and hiked Grayson Highlands with mine and never regretted the weight of it. Canoe or Kayak is easy peasy.

I have a Defender 15' x15' that I bought a few years ago for car camping. the last trip we had 30mph sustained winds with gusts up to 50mph and the tarp handled it with ease. it is crazy how strong these tarps are. worth every penny I spent.

I just had my Safari 10x10 in the mountains at Fernie BC for a week. I’d bought it because I’d never heard a single negative comment and they are a Canadian company 🇨🇦. The tarp gave us a place to get relief from the rain. We got hailed on twice. The tarp was fabulous, no damage of any kind and not a single leak.

I have two AquaQuest tarps. I agree they are good tarps. If you really want to buy once, cry once…if you want a backpack tarp…consider a tarp made of dynema, cubin fiber. I have one, 9 ounces, and after a long, hard rain, I just shake it dry. It does not absorb water and it continues to fit in its bag. I know that Luke is a beast and can carry a massive backpack. I’m an old retired vet, not quite a beast, and I’m glad to go lightly.

What brand is made of dynema, cubin fiber?
@alexanderslee
@alexanderslee 8 дней назад
From what I've read, the cons outweigh the pros for Dyneema tarp. Reasons: double/triple the cost of SilNylon, poor packability, allows light to transmit through, so it doesn't block out the sun, loud in the rain, not as durable as SilNylon for punctures.

I have the 15x15 and I love it, it has done no wrong, and I love the camo accent. I purchased this size so I could use it in conjunction with my Pathfinder when out vehicle camping. I too use my elephant tent poles to assist in supporting the tarp. I also purchased a spool of shock cord to make my custom guy lines for some of the guy points. It may be my imagination, but, I think it helps a bit with the stretching aspect and wind. I agree with Luke, it is a good product.

I have been using the 10x13 heavy weight for 3 years. Its been thru everything without fail. I purchssed a 10x13 ultralight for backpacking which is just as good. Iv added some shock cord at the corner and peak loops to help minimize the stretch adjustments.. Yes, the bag is a pain if you dont fold it perfectly, and if its wet forget it. They are great tarps for the price.

I have several items that you have tested in the past. I have never been disappointed. I always come to your channel first when it's time to buy an item. When I was looking for a tarp the first time, I chose the Rab SilTarp1 which I really liked. Recently I purchased the AquaQuest Guide13 x 10. I haven't used it yet. I'm going to the park near my house next week in preparation for my next camping trip. I always check my equipment and practice with new items before. Hi quality tie off points with beefed up stitching and plenty of points to tie off on the tarp. Point taken on the size of the bag for the tarp. However, if the tarp is dry or wet I stuff it in it's sack and it fits every time. Price point for the product here in Canada is fair in relation to other tarps of similar quality I see out there.

I only car camp because of medical issues, so I'm not trekking or backpacking, so I can afford to use heavier gear. I will say though, if you get a AquaQuest tarp, replace the bag, because they're just so annoying to put the tarps back into after use. I replaced the storage bags with the snake-skin style bags and they make using the tarps just about perfect.

I have the AQ Guide 7x10 tarp (yet to use) and the AQ Safari King Camo 10x13 tarp which I use for car camping. The King Camo was a huge improvement over the budget blue Harbor Freight specials I previously used. To be honest, the cheapie Harbor Freight tarps did work, just a major pain to use as they were small and needed to be attached together just to cover a picnic table.

I have the guide and defender. Defender 10 x 10. Pretty heavy. 10x13 guide. Less than half the weight of the Defender. Both awesome. Have both for 7 years. Still look brand new. The make guide outs you can purchase.

A great tarp is worth the money. A tarp can be the difference between a great outing and a horrible one, or even life and death during extreme weather.

i bought the 10 by 10 foot defender. i had it out during a tornado warning and did very well. it only went down because a branch fell to the rear knocking down the tarp pole. it stayed up in the front and only had a credit card sized rip towards the seam at the edge. the one tigris tent underneath didn't flinch. would and will buy again.

I have the guide series but I accidentally put two holes in it while taking snow off the tarp when I was completing a winter survival course. We made a Quinzhee and snow beds and covered them with the tarps and snow. I love this tarp but bummed I put two holes in it.

Hello, I sweer by a MSR Outfitter wing. Never found a tarp better. Two poles no flap can take a 50 mph wind because of the way it is cut. Comes in a couple of sizes but is costly.

@3:47 Luke, AquaQuest listed metric weight for the 13x10' (4x3m) tarp is 800 grams, not 630 grams. Not sure at what point along the chain the error was introduced. This is the key problem with US Customary Units, mixing up pounds and ounces, with a metric (!) decimal. Ounces are subdivided into 16 drams, and 1 dram equals 27-11⁄32 grains. So Americans insisting on doing things the American way should at least use drams to be accurate. 16 multiplied by 16! Good luck figuring that out without a calculator! Or just convert to full metric as it's a superior measurement system in every single aspect.

I bought a West Coast Bivy used it twice the seam tape started to come off at the floor. I reached to out AquaQuest and they sent me a new bivy with no hassles. I even got to keep the my original West Coast Bivy. Added seam sealer and it is good a new.

I use my 13' x 10' Safari Tarp to pitch a lightweight Whelan Lean-To configuration. I have a canvas Whelan Lean-To, from Tentsmiths, but it's 14.8-lbs and not backpackable.

Have you ever considered buying a vintage Sears canvas tent for testing? I think it would be it interesting to see how they hold up. I was amazed how expensive they are on ebay.
