I was plagued by F.A.R.R.T.S for so long. Now I finally have some relief. Would somebody steal my trailer when I wasn't looking? I don't worry about trailer theft anymore though! When it came to securing my camper/cargo trailer I chose the best trailer coupler lock I could find. If you suffer from fear and anxiety of recreational trailer theft syndrome this is the cure. They didn't take the whole thing, but my trailer was broken into and most of my expensive tools were stolen. I put a great lock on the trailer, so they just took an axe and hacked their way through the door while the trailer was sitting in a secured and monitored lot. I hate thieves.

I have always been told when your out with your trailer to always check before you leave to make sure your chains and pin is still hooked up. Some people think its funny to pull you hitch pins. Don't trust anyone, always check. A guy told me that he and his wife stopped to get something to eat. After there meal, he walked to the back of his truck to find his Hitch pin was gone and his chains were not hooked up. Could have been very bad from him or someone down the road. Lock are a Great Idea. Thanks for sharing Haxman. 👍

Around here, if they can't get to the coupler, they cross the chains over the ball on their hitch, raise the jack and drive away with the trailer hanging from the chains. Later, they cut the lock off at their leisure. If you can prevent coupler access, chain access and the easy ability to work the jack, then it's too much trouble and they move on to an easier trailer. I have a coupler lock, removeable chains and a power jack with a hidden ground disconnect.

A tow truck can still lift the front end of the trailer and leave with it. Don’t ask me how I known this can be done. I do. This happened to us. U also need wheel locks so it can’t be lifted and towed. A tow truck doesn’t need to hook up to a hitch. I had a bad case of the FARTS. But now we have wheel locks also. Got them at camping world

Gotta say... the intro to this was the funniest thing I've seen in quite a while! Hollywood, you'd better be watching if you want to stay relevant!! lol nice play on the f.a.r.t.s. I was thinking of my son in law. I have insurance on my trailers and that only for people that can take them with out getting shot. I do keep them locked up and blocked in most of the time. Good video keep em coming.

What happens if you release the ball lock armature? I have a lock that slides up against the hitch ball slot of the trailer. I like the idea of being able to lock the chains up though!!! I worry about that with the style I’m using

It has no effect on the lock system overall. The ball lock just serves to hold the plate and chains in place until you slide the steel casing over everything. Once you do that the ball lock becomes irrelevant. I should have explained that better in the video.

This is a dumb question but coming from a non-trailer-owner, can't a perp just hook chains of their own up to the tongue, lower the tongue jack, and drive off?

Well anything is possible. It would be very difficult to do that though and hard to pull. They would also have to preplan for that scenario and have the chains with them.

You can release the coupler, but that doesn't matter. Once installed, the two pieces interlock and can't come apart while the puck luck is secured.

Dumb question, what happened if you just open the coupler? What stops it from sliding off? When closed is it too tight?

It still can't move because the plate with the piece acting as the ball can't drop down because of the metal surround and the surround can't pull forward because of the lock. It kind of acts like a puzzle with the puck lock being the piece that holds it all together. Sounds kind of complicated when I type it out but it's really simple and effective. 😄
