How to install an easy DIY sink and water system in an RV or camper van. I'm finishing up my hurricane bug out camper and this is a fast, cheap and easy way to add water to your camper but don't make the same mistakes I made. I'll show you how in just an hour or so you can have running water. I've got to replace the air conditioning on my camper and after that I'll show the completed cargo camper conversion. Thanks for watching!

Just in case anyone was wondering the "garden hose adapter" is 3/4” GHT Female x 3/4” NPT Male Connector, GHT to NPT Adapter Brass Fitting. Thanks for a great vid, couldn't seem to find anyone else that will show how to do any of this and your explanations were on point!

So an easy tip to help make it fool proof for not getting tanks switched. On your quick connects put male on one tank female on the other when and if possible. I do this any time I hook up multiple tanks for a project, I also do it with 12v wiring that has to have removable connections to keep from crossing positive and negative on hook up

Quick tip: If you swap the fittings on the quick connects, you can put a male on one jug, and a female on the other jug so that you can't get them mixed up.

I would store a couple more fresh water jugs so you’re not having to search for water so much. I’ve been deciding on outing a gray water setup in my van or keep in sink less. I think you convinced me.

Not sure if those hose quick connects are unidirectional or not, but it might be worth putting the male side on one tank and the female side on the other tank, that way you can't accidentally hook up the grey water tank to the pump.

Why even have quick connects on the gray water? Just put the hose a couple inches into the jug.

You might want to consider hooking the hot side up to a splitter on the pump outlet, that way you get maximum flow regardless of the handle's temperature position. You can always remove the splitter later when you get hot water.

You should split the water supply to the faucet through both the hot and cold, because that pipe you've blanked off will create a dead head of water which will go stale and potentially contaminate the supply.

Make up a Y connector to connect the fresh water hose to the sink faucets. When you winterize, just disconnect the hose from the Y to drain. You don't run the risk of forgetting to uncap the line on the hot water side, as you have it now. Don't ask me how I know that hot water side capped hose with water in it will burst when it freezes.

I was trying to figure how to hook up to the same kind of fresh water tank. Thanks for the info. Btw, I had the same problem with using a hot/cold faucet but went to the plumbing supply and just got a cap to screw on the hot inlet because I didn't want the hose attached and hanging down as it would hold water and be a problem when freezing weather comes. LOL, fortunately I thought about that before trying to run water thru it.

Well, great to have a muscle man to lift out that gray water when it's full. Works for you but not so much for ladies. Like the concept, wondering if alternative location might work. Also wondering if you could run freshwater intake to exterior of camper with a cover. Ditto the drain of the gray water tank. Now that would be AWESOME. Oh, and another thought, hot water tank or bladder on the roof, sunny heats it, no need for extra heating, gravity fed. Obviously you would have additional gray water tank for that.

lol I did catch it. I laughed cause I knew what happen... Also it would have been easier to attache the barb to the pump first then hook the hose and then clamp it so you didn't have to flip the hose around trying to screw in the barb to the pump. I haven't gotten to the water being turned on yet. But I'm guessing the leak at the beginning of the video was because the Hot water line was not hooked up or capped.

Great video! I'm having a hard time with my sink bowl drainage in my cargo trailer camper conversion 3rd time it's broke on me at the bottom of the sink, when i'm tryring to disconnect the grey water to the container. My setup is just have a pvc pipe going straight into my grey water container like yours, but no quick connects. My facet is simple just one those hand pump ones that you move the lever back and forth to have water. I don't know what i'm doing wrong..
@idahoverland_208
@idahoverland_208 3 года назад
I’d recommend a slightly smaller fresh water tank to ensure you never overflow your grey water tank. This would also ensure you didn’t mix them up. Alternately you can cut the freshwater feed tube a bit shorter so it can never fully empty. Switching the male to female quick connect on one would also prevent accidental swapping of the fresh and grey water hookups.

I see something you missed. The family is not going to be happy with only cold water for bathing or dishes. May I suggest a portable propane instant hot water heater. The unit needs to be placed out side and one of the models runs off of a small canister of gas or a larger cylinder (20 pound gas (grill) tank. Of course a portable privacy curtain may be required also. I'm not a manufacturer but you might be offered one with luck. You are also adding weight to your rig and may lose some space. My cabin conversion may have a French drain and a hose to take the waste to a near by drain or even a hose to a french drain. My bathroom unit is a C Head. Composting toilet. In my case it is only me, but you have a family and need to think about future needs. Children grow fast and needs change quickly. Just say' n. You have 200 watts of power and I have 2100 watts. I want to go to 3600 watts. Think Texas and grid failure. My plan has backups, to the backups to the backups. Ie pellet stove, wood stove, lp space heater; last one requires no electric other than a AA battery. Or a match. How about a solar fan to move hot humid area around. Run test senarios with the family. Push the plan and have a safe word so the family can stop the test before they tie you to a tree and drive away. (Lol). Also surprise the family with unexpected surival meals. Watch their reaction and ask your self How long could i actually eat this stuff for? It taste is really different. Do not count on wild game as a food source. Everyone else will be counting on it as well and it will quickly be gone. My cabin is 428 sq feet 12 x 28. I can not use a loft. Old guy, bad knees and hips. I am open to questions and tips. Remember, Be nice. I often think of the movie with Harrison Ford, Four Days and Four Nights where he and a passenger are stranded on a tropical island. The line is, Honey, it's an island! If you didn't bring it, its not here. Bugging out turns out to be an adventure of a life time. I am one person and you have to think this out for your whole family! If ONE OR MORE are not on the same page you all loose. Real time life and death stuff. Plan and practice. Leave nothing to chance. Building it is fun. Living it is another story. Best wishes. ASK ME! Ask me! ASK ME!!!

Bluetti is neat but yesh that thing is not cheap. You should build a DIY version using Optima batteries and a standalone inverter. You'd get DAYS worth of battery life not hours. You could wire it up to 12v aux in the trailer plug to charge off your vehicle or use any generic solar panel as well. Just food for thought. Love your content.

checking the mistakes you made in the furniture by having to cut it and the other by putting a clamp on the wrong hose, you would have changed the color of the containers so that you do not connect the gray water container to the faucet pipe and contaminate with a simple mistake or changing 1 quick connection for a different one so that you do not confuse the hoses Well it's just a suggestion to avoid mistakes
