In my experience, if you find a restaurant that has English only menus, avoid it. They are catering to tourists only and the prices, quality and service will most probably not be up to the usual high standard.

StarHorse is an neat setup. It's the follow-up to Sega's Derby Owners Club, which was pretty popular at Dave and Busters locations in the US in the early 2000s. In later revisions of StarHorse (I think starting with SH3), it was actually connected to the Japanese Horse Racing Association races, so not only could you raise and race your own horses locally at the arcade, but it could act like a virtual Sportsbook for real races, simulated within the game.

Maybe it's good that you didn't get the Yakitori at that restaurant after all! I looked up that restaurant and it's Korean Izakaya, so I guess Yakitori isn't their specialty food. They do seem to have variety of Korean dishes instead. But the reviews I found for that restaurant were pretty much the same as what you were saying, rude service, subpar food, etc etc. For good Korean food, Okubo is the place to go.

"That restaurant is honestly shit" LOL - that happened to us near that area, coincidentally. It wasn't as bad, for us to say that it was shit, but actually finding a below average spot was completely juxtaposed to the seemingly infinite amount of amazing food you can find anywhere all throughout Japan.

The appetizers you get in Izakayas are mandatory in Japan. It's basically seating money like some other countries do but you get an appetizer in return. I've probably had tens of em last year and didn't like any of them haha. It's basically to avoid having people occupy a seat in small places like Izakayas with just a water.

I wanted to explain what "numbness" in the menu meant. There is a kind of Chinese pepper called Huajiaon(the spice that you said you never tasted in your life), which is served with the pork bowl/dish you had. Putting this pepper makes your tongue numb. Therefore, it is called "numbness". From what I could see, the menu did not explain this. in Japanese, it called Shibire Don/Zara and its literal translation is numbness bowl/plate but it fails to provide the context. In Japanese menu, it provides a bit better context.

Unfortunately, things have been deteriorating here in Japan. You should check keyword "sushi terrorism". You will find that some people do some unethical things at restaurants so unacceptable that they take such customers to court these days. It is just an example, it also happens at ramen shops and other chain restaurants as well.

I found your videos while searching for good videos to learn English. Now, I love your videos! It's too bad that you had a bad experience at that izakaya, but I'm glad and relieved you eventually enjoyed Ameyoko. Dipping sauce for Kushikatsu is very popular, especially in Osaka, but I understand your opinion. It's good and goes well with Katsu, but I think the taste isn't particularly special. I don't know if you're still in Japan, but I hope you come back to Japan again soon! If you love eating, I'd like you to visit Fukuoka, although I don't live there. 😂 It's famous for food, and I'd recommend you try Hakata Ramen (a type of Tonkotsu Ramen) and Motsu nabe (an offal hotpot). And if possible, I'd like you to visit the countryside in Japan. Each area has beautiful natural spots and delicious local foods. However, there's not much public transportation, so it might be a bit challenging to travel around in a short time. Thank you for this video! I look forward to your next videos!

8:38 It is very difficult to choose an izakaya in Japan.😂There are many izakayas, and the quality varies widely. One criterion I follow is to avoid izakayas that have store clerks calling out to customers outside the store. The lower the quality and the fewer customers an izakaya has, the more likely it is that they are calling out to people walking around the street outside the store. You may also need to be careful of izakayas where the clerks are looking for customers not only in front of the store but also in other places. This is because in Japan, it would be a crime to lure customers to an izakaya far away from the store. A store that has so few customers that it has to resort to illegal acts cannot be considered high quality. I hope this will be a hint for tourists when choosing an izakaya.

The izakaya where the yakitori was slow to arrive is, to be honest, our assessment is pretty low. Sometimes you come across not-so-great izakayas in my country, and we also feel the same feeling about them. I apologize for that. If you can manage to order in Japanese, or are willing to try, I suggest going to a standing style izakaya that only offers a only original language menu. @@dragonzord6615 oh yes I understand it alright. Its not about ruining a business. It wil get ruined on its own if it doesn't maintain itself but you should let people decide on their own what is best because it's all about the experience we take good and bad. We can look at the bad things and try to be better ourselves. If I would leave no review for a business then they have less reviews than compare to someone who has alot of good ones. It's all about being kind in this world and not be so nasty and leave bad reviews it's really unnecessary. It's known that the people who think of the negative things and write negative things are the ones who are unhappy with themselves and life. It's better to think positive. so again I only believe in 5 stars and 1 star and anything with 1 star doesn't get any review at all I don't even think about going online waste of time I just carry on doing something eles
