This was the song playing in the movie Saturday Night Fever in which ever person on the entire dance floor in the disco was doing a line dance perfectly executed in sync. I was not into disco in the '70s; preferred progressive rock to it, and they were two very different musical tastes. But hearing these songs now makes me remember going out with my friends in college to the dance clubs where disco was all they played.

The Bee Gees were asked to write songs for a movie that was later titled Saturday Night Fever but they didnt and instead offered the songs they already had recorded which included Night Fever. Those songs became the music for the movie. The band was never a novelty disco band. To really aprreciate what the Bee Gees had accomplished, you should react to the earlier songs from the 60s. There is treasure trove of great hits there, not to mention the songs they wrote in the 80s and 90s as well as the hits they wrote for other artistes, over a career that spanned 4 decades.

The soundtrack to 'Saturday Night Fever" was the height of Disco and the Bee Gees were on top of the charts. The whole entire soundtrack is full of iconic songs. However, the Brothers Gibb (Bee Gees) were not always singing falsetto and were not considered a Disco group until they hit it big time. Another Gibb was Andy. He had some hits as well where his brothers sang back up for him.

@SG-js2qn
@SG-js2qn 2 года назад
@@Pixelologist The way I figure it, disco as a genre definitely exists with the advent of Saturday Night Fever. I'm sure there's excellent examples of dance music from before that are very disco like, but SNF is where I draw the line for the music as a distinct movement. I count "You Should Be Dancing" as basically disco, even though it came out just before SNF. It feels like the unintended Bee Gees audition tape for getting the SNF gig. But ... y'know. Somebody has probably written a book it. :)

The Bee Gee's were asked to write the main song for the movie called Night Fever, hence the songs name. But just before the release of the movie into cinemas worldwide, the producers did not think Night Fever was a good title. Then they thought about it and most people in that time went out dancing on Saturday nights, so the movie was renamed Saturday Night Fever - and the rest is history. A challenge for Brad & Lex, is to react to a Bee Gee song from each decade 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000, 2010 where they wrote and recorded songs that went well in the charts worldwide. That way, you will get to understand how the Bee Gee's kept reinventing themselves in each decade and lasted so long until the deaths of Robyn and Maurice.

Great writers, great muscians, they used the falsetto tone and got a massive hit with it so continued with the same tone... You got the Stylistics of course, same tone... "You make me feel brand new" etc. If your getting big hits singing that way your gonna keep doing it... Their real voices are totally normal though, so it was a career choice.. Love them, love them...

Other falsetto groups - Doobie Brothers, and of course Earth, Wind, and Fire! Was definitely a very popular technique for some of the greatest bands in the 70s.

They actually started singing as kids. Out of all 4 brothers , the oldest one is the only brother left . All the younger brothers passed away. Barry ( the oldest brother ) said in an interview that the one thing he regrets the most is not getting along with his brothers while they were alive . And not being able to fix the problems they had. And that's the thing he will have to live with for the rest of his life .

Thanks! Higher vocal ranges are naturally more appealing to our ears. This is why we naturally speak in higher tones when we want something. Or when we try to attract another animal for instance!

High voices come easily to Manchester lads; though not quite as squeaky as scousers. Joking aside, my dad was well into them late 70s and it rubbed off a bit on me. I love the thick layered sound still respecting four to the floor. Fave track Spirits Having Flown.

The Bee Gees had an epic career as songwriters and singers going back to the 1960s. And they had that family-members-in-harmony magic. Check out the documentary "The Joy of the Bee Gees". I really like the way Lex's body came to life at 1:05 of this video. That chorus of 'Night fever, night fever We know how to do it Gimme that night fever, night fever We know how to show it' makes me move my body! I can understand why Lex had to start moving with the beat. That smile on her face shows the joy listening to "Night Fever" can bring you. Lex asks, "I don't know why I like this group, honestly. I don't know why.". I'll answer her question. It's because she likes to dance. I know from experience, because I like to dance. And then again at 3:38 of this video, the Bee Gees had her moving! If y'all ever get the chance, you should see how we used to dance to this song. This music had us movin' on that dance floor, for real!
