More business illiteracy and egalitarian BS. Yeah, it probably doesn't save them much money, if any, to produce a smaller screens. However, lower trim levels are often loss leaders. There has to be some sort of penalty for the fact that you didn't spend $50,000+. Otherwise, there would be no motivation to spend more on profitable configurations that are subsidizing your cheapy work truck. If you knew anything about running a business and making it profitable, you'd understand scale and cost spreading, as well as loss leading and the necessity of other forms of marketing strategy. Your sub-$30,000 work truck would not exist without them.

Why does the car based Maverick have more payload than a lot of these midsized trucks ?
@davep2945
@davep2945 3 года назад
A lot of unibody based SUV's have more payload than many body on frame trucks, even half ton trucks. But most people never bother to look at the actual door sticker for payload capacity and assume the advertised maximum payload for the base model work truck is the payload for all trucks in the lineup. That is never true. Of course, max payload on these SUV's and now, of course, the Maverick change with added options as well. Unibodies are not weaker designs than non-commercial or heavy duty frame based vehicles especially when kept in SUV form with the entire roof structure in place. The unibody design is typically lighter which helps keep payload high. It is also a much stiffer platform that almost always uses independent suspension which allows better ride and handling even with stiffer springs which allows a higher payload as well. The trucks could easily have 2000 pounds of payload capacity as many of their overseas counterparts built on the same platforms do but the ride and handling suffer dramatically and the average consumer in the states wants a comfortable ride more than they want massive payload capacity. In Asia, Australia and Europe the full size truck is all but non-existent so it falls to the mid size crowd to carry the load and so they beef them up over there. I suspect there's also a little fear in corporate offices that if they give their mid size truck a higher payload than their full size then why buy the full size for more money? But the manufacturers don't consider truck and SUV buyers as cross shoppers. And the Maverick is in a different class as well.

The hood is way too long. I can't tell if it's coming or going. Damn near longer than that short bed. Very cool otherwise. Nissan still has a long way to go with it's interiors. Unless you get a top trim you get a drab, way too plasticky interior. 7" Infotainment screen is ugly with that bezel. Shows their cheapness. Gave it a huge bezel just to use the same cut out as the larger screen. Still an overall improvement, just not enough of one. Overall feels like a great technology truck, for 8 years ago. Looks better, doesn't feel much better. Trying to pass off a 2014 era truck as a 2022.

Why is the payload so deceiving? Does this not have to have any seats at all in order to get up to the 1600lb payload? It always just seems so low no matter what trim you choose. This doesn't even have a hitch so what is that another 70+ lbs off that payload?

What I don't like about Nissan is they have a tendency to ignore known design flaws for years, they just keep cranking out garbage that they know will break soon after the warranty expires. Some examples: their CVT car and SUV transmissions, SMOD failure of previous Frontier/Xterra model transmissions, and Leaf battery degradation due to inadequate cooling. Nissan trucks have better specs than Toyotas but much worse resale value. This truck could be great but we won't know for 5 years or so and I'm not willing to risk it.

Philosophy, tradition, convenience, lazy engineers, cost savings, any lame reason.... The bed and the rest of the body are physically and conceptually compartmentalized, which makes it's slightly more expensive to add than it would be had it been unibody, or if it were a forethought. So, they look for whatever BS reason to not add it. If people still accept it, even though they're now paying $90,000+ for trucks, they really don't have a reason to add it.

@davep2945
@davep2945 3 года назад
They aren't skimping on payload capacity. Look at the actual payload capacity on the door sticker of any mid size truck in the same trim as this one and you'll find a very similar rating. All vehicles have build specific payload capacities which is why you never know what the actual capacity of any specific vehicle is until you check the door sticker. All manufacturers advertise maximum payload capacities in their commercials but unless you get the most basically equipped, two wheel drive truck then you will never actually have the advertised max payload.

I had high hopes for this truck. Have they improved it, yes. I have found out that it does fall short on a few things you can get with the competition now. 1. No telescoping steering wheel 2. Electronic diff. only on the Pro4X 3. Getting close to 40K and no power passenger seat 4. Ought to have the interior metal inserts match the body paint. It looks a bit plain. If the new Tundra isn't outrageous on price, I'll take a look. It very well might be the Tacoma if they can beef up the 3.5 or replace it with a turbo four.

Wife just Bought this exact same truck today with all 3 premium packages. Came in right around 44Gs out the door. She said goodbye to the Biggest POS we have ever owned. a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. The Jeep covered the loan. The only good thing to come from buying a Mopar Fiat product. Never ever again.

Actually most people will buy the two wheel drive version. Nissan has a swing and a miss with this truck. I owned a 2018 Frontier SL. Gas mileage was awful. I got 14-15 mpg around town. 21mpg was the absolute best on the highway. A full size F150 with 5.0 V8 gets better mpg. Nissan should have used their 2.5 liter 4 and added a turbo. I have already ordered the Ford Maverick pick up. My 2018 Frontier has been sold.
