Them plastic boxes you don’t need shelves for because they are strong enough to stack 5-6 onto of each other, that will save a lot of space, I have the cheap boxes and they stack 4 on top

its expensive but I get it your already paying for storage, you may as well invest in your own space saves time travel and everything else on top of the storage cost. And then you have no cost after the final is paid, seems like a sensible idea

Get some guttering on the eaves George. If not, a wet area will pool up on either side of the shed and will eventually lead to subsidence. (I’m an engineer).

George, I’m no way a negative Nelly mate. But you will out grow this in no time. This is pretty much the same size of your storage container. And let’s not forget all the stock you have hanging around at home also that you will be putting into it. Looks good though.

Interesting, honest and detailed account of the new building. Will also save you the time (and fuel) travelling to and from a container. A positive step IMHO. Your H&S/logistics manager also must be a boon to the business.

£4k to £9k for a 20ft conversation shipping container on ebay. The 4k ones look decent being full insulated and electrics with a dearer option of having the outside cladded for around £9k

Maybe for the future lookout for racking bays with wheels on, you could just shift your stock out the way during your what-not streams then push back during the week.

Lovely looking shed ... okay, in an ideal world you'd have maybe come in under 10k and have a few more square metres to play with, but guess what happens then? You'd have a noticeably smaller garden, which in turn devalues the property. So contrary to some, I personally think you went for the best size to keep everything in balance out back and not allow the outbuilding to be too intrusive in the garden. If you outgrow it, well, you're in a bigger house now so can always make more room for a little surplus stock somewhere indoors without it taking over the living room. Also, cutting corners to do things yourself, always ALWAYS = more cost down the line, so better to get it put up by the pros as you have done, and by an established firm who can help with any future issues. I'm currently recreating an approx 8k kitchen for half that by buying all the separates for less and doing all the work (except plumbing/electrics) myself. Tiling & painting is easy but the rest has quickly become the kind of hell on earth I would gladly part with the money saved two times over NOT to have to go through, it's that stressful! So all the very best to you & Amy and don't look back - you deserve it. 🤩

Amazing, expensiv however in the end it will pay off. Best think its insulated and you can work out of this unit during the winter months and it wont be cold and damp like my garage...

TOP TIP: Keep some paint handy for the next few years. You will find that you're constantly 'touching up' when the joints expand in the summer and show the bits you couldnt paint when it was contracted

Wow, big investment but can understand why you didn't want all the aggro of doing it yourself and it should make things much better for you, work/balance-wise... your workspace will be at your fingertips and you don't have to drive to some dingy, expensive storage unit. As you say, time-flies and before you know it it will be paid for, and it's much better to invest it in an amenity for your property than throw money away each month on something that isn't really yours!

Nice having having it in your backyard but I had to move mine out of my house into a storage unit when I found out I nearly invalidated my building insurance by getting close to having £5000 worth of stock in a residential property so be aware anyone thinking of doing this check with your insurance company first or your landlord.

People have come up with lots of great name suggestions, maybe you could change it with your mood. Cash Cabin when things are going well. Crap Cabin when they are not. Boot Boutique in car boot season. Shoe Chalet when you are having a major footwear run. Et cetera. Just as long as it’s alliterative 😂

I used to sell high street clothing on eBay. I used to do really well and then things just suddenly changed as people were offered many more options online with cheap companies (poorly made of course!) It all took up so much room. I changed to cosmetics in the end and do equally well. Luckily everything takes up so much less room. If you want any ladies clothing then let me know! I have lots that was never relisted. All new with tags. 😉

£250-300 a month over 5 years aint bad for storage with power 👍But it's a capital asset so at least you can get some tax relief and its on your doorstep.

Think you're going to need to invest in a storage shed of sorts, otherwise youll be spilling out of there in no time when the boots are in full flow (plus if youre dabbling in furniture etc) Couple grand well spent, dont need to do much more than sticking your own insulation panels on the panels etc

Good business move. Travelling costs / travelling tome / storage fees, convenience- no brainer. Save you a fortune in the long run. Congrats

It is looking really good and you will get your money back in the building including time spent not travelling to the other storage unit. Plus it was put up by experts efficiently and quickly. What colour are you going to paint the outside? I like the way Amy is planning it and keeping the cardboard pile in check!

Dont want to worry you but if you use the shed for running a business out of you may have to pay business rates on it i would look into it
