I forgot to add that I have more than a handful of short clips of normal hawker fare from old vlogs that my viewers have asked me to put up. So there will still be some of that being lived in the months to come, but that will eventually taper out

Hi, Greg. Google recommended this video to me. I also watched your previous video on your “health journey” last year. You were a “diabetic” 1+ years ago. The life changing decision to jump to Low-carbs / Keto camp maybe the smartest decision you have ever made. Keep it up! From your latest blood test result, my opinion: - 1. AST = 43 / ALT = 39 & GGT = 29 indicates your non-alcoholic fatty liver still persists, hence this can explain why your TG is still elevated after 1+ years of LCHF. Normal value of AST and ALT shall be < or around 20, for LCHF dieter. 2. Urea = 58.9 or even slightly elevated uric acid is not a concerned if you are metabolical healthy. You consumed higher meats in your diet. Hence, higher by product from protein is normal. Just drink more water to discharge it. 3. Lipid profile is a big concern. HDL = 47 and TG = 196 indicated your fat metabolism is not ideal. 4. Blood glucose still elevated with HbA1c = 6.0% and fasting insulin = 8.3. I don’t have your fasting glucose level, but with HbA1c of 6.0%, your fasting blood glucose potentially may > 6.0mmol/L. With that figure in mind, your HOMA-Ir shall be around 2.2~2.5. This indicates you are still with insulin resistance. 5. I suspected you still have high level of ectopic fat at your muscle cell, which inhibit glucose metabolism (Randle Cycle). 6. It will be a long journey to your health recovery. With determination, I think you are able to reverse your pre-diabetes and fat metabolism issues. I recommend you go and check Prof. Bart Kay Channel, on the explanation of “Randle Cycle”, on cell & mitochondria’s ATP production (either glucose or fatty acid, not both). Good luck on your recovery journey!!

Can I suggest an alternative which allows you to keep eating the food you are so passionate about. Exercise and doing weights will boost your metabolism which will help you become more alert and obvious positive physical changes. Now I wouldnt suggest going to the gym, but buying a compact treadmill at home and using that 30min a day for 4 times and a weight stations to allow you do peck, back and shoulder reps. At the core humans are hunter and gathererswhich meant running around to get that meat source.

Hi Greg, Please do not assume that having a CAC score of 0 means you are in the clear. The more accurate scan is a coronary CT angiogram which studies the coronary arteries for plaques. Soft plaques are non-calcified and you may be surprised to find soft plaques in your coronary arteries and still have CAC score of 0. These soft plaques may have an even higher risk of plaque rupture which cause heart attacks and even sudden death. Your LDL is extremely high and is not a good marker for cardiac risk in the setting of the presence of any plaques (which you have not definitively excluded) and borderline prediabetes. Please do a coronary CT angiogram to confirm the presence / absence of coronary plaques before you continue on your high fat diet. You may be required to start on Statins and Ezitimibe +/- blood thinners if any plaques are found. This will dramatically reduce the risk of future heart attacks and strokes if caught early. You may also want to consider intermittent and prolonged fasting in order to boost insulin sensitivity and facilitate the correction of your raised triglycerides. To further boost these effects, doing light to moderate exercise (brisk walk, slow jog, swim, cycle - these cardio exercises are more beneficial for the heart in preventing a heart attack than strength training. Strength training does produce other benefits but cardio work is more specific for heart health hence the word cardio) whilst in a fasted state may also be considered. Personally, I eat one meal a day (OMAD) effectively bringing my fasting time to 24 hrs. This encourages the phenomenon of autophagy - a natural process of cell recycling and rejuvenation. I brisk walk / slow jog 1 hr every morning during my fast and drink plenty of water during my fast to further boost the onset of ketosis and autophagy. My meal for the day is rich in veg, meat, nuts and occasionally low carb fruits such as berries and avocado. I maintain low carbs in my diet. I feel fantastic every day with this protocol. May God bless you on your journey to health and wellness. My 2 cents worth as a medical doctor.

Hi Greg, I have been your follower and have watched the videos of your health journey. I have even commented in a couple of them. What I have said above is in context with your progress so far. Your recent blood test results do raise some concern and warrant further investigation. I am aware of the findings of lean mass hyper-responders (LMHR). However, there is still no evidence so far to say these individuals have no risk of any cardiac event down the road if they persist long term with a very high LDL, low triglycerides, high HDL and maintain a lean mass (low BMI). They are being studied at the moment. I implore that you do take heed to some of the advice for the sake of safety, especially with a history of smoking, being overweight and prediabetes. You are definitely heading in the correct direction but may require some tweaks and refinements in your diet and lifestyle based on your unique set of clinical findings. Everybody is different and responds differently to any intervention. You have to do what is best for your body. Take care and Happy Chinese New Year in advance to you and your family! 🙏

LDL cholesterol is a poor bio marker for heart disease. It is but a mere snapshot in time. Inflammation in the arteries is what causes plaque to build up. (But of course since they are both contributory, keeping LDL low and inflammation low is key.)

What if you could be mistaken, and the increased LDL leads you to unstable plague ? Plague currently is irreversible. I am a believer of a high fat, more meat based, less carb diet, IF with it and consume statins at the most, minimal dose 5mg rosuvastatin alternate days, and boost it with low dose of ezetimibe if needed. All in the name of reduced side effects.

Hi Greg, it’s easy to resolve your issue. Just go on intermittent fast - one meal or two meals a day. No eating after 6.30pm. Or you can focus all food during a 8 hrs period only. And no binging snacking all days. Each time you eat, it spikes your insulin. Btw, saw you in the bus with a woman near 888 plaza. Very nice Mee Pok there. One of my top choice. ❤

You can have a "0" reading on your coronary calcium score and still have CVD events. Heart attacks are mainly caused by soft plague. Those are the one that are loosely attached to the artery walls. Those calcified plagues will not dislodge. The scan will not detach soft plagues. I have 0 calcium score and had heart attack. High cholestrol levels of all kinds are implied risk factors. The only direct risk factor is your lipoprotein(a) and ApoB level which is a subset of LDL. For general public health, LDL level is generally used to determine risk. But you can have very high LDL and low LP(a) and ApoB and still be healthy. Only refined carbs are bad. Complex carbs do not spike insulins as much as there are more fiber. If you want refined carbs, take non-soluble fiber like chia seed or supplements right before or together with them. Vinegar does the same. Sushi rice with vinegar has a Glycemic index of 70 vs white rice 100. Stay active(walk, move around, do housework etc) for 30 mins after refine carbs and your insulin would not spike as much. If you want quality content on science based health matters, check our "Nutrition made simple" backed by science. Prevmedhealth is pretty good too.There are so much misinfomation by so called "youtube doctors" including famous ones like Dr. Eric berg, Paul Saladino and many websites.

Dr. Gil Carvalho is a council member of the Truth Health Initiative, not to say anything about it, but its something to take note. It's not right to label some doctors "youtube doctors" to give a sense that they only do "doctor" work in the internet, but isn't Dr. Gils also a "youtube doctor" in this case? Many of the doctors holds clinical practice and treats clients, they just happen to have a youtube channel to help with nutrition education. Its not right to lump everyone together when you have not seen the work they do and just disrepect their work entirely without talking to them or their clients.

The low carb diet is not a fad and it is not a scam. I am a T2 diabetic who was diagnosed 2 years ago. Since adopting a low carb diet and eating a Mediterranean diet (but without the grains like rice and processed foods), I’ve lost 17 kilos (20% of my body weight), my blood sugar has gone from HBA1C 6.5% (diabetic) to 5.2% (normal blood sugars). My triglycerides has come down significantly and the rest of my bloodwork is all normal. @gregory, if you are reading this comment, as somebody who has done this for 2 years, I’ll recommend that you adopt low-carb breads, eat more tree nuts, and get a glucose meter to test the impact of all the foods you’re eating.

I am glad you decided to take the diet to a stricter level. I hope this works well to bring down that triglyceride value. Sometimes its can be quite persistent and challenging, but bringing down the carbs to near zero is a good way about it. As for CAC score, the score is only good when its a trend. If possible do one more CAC 1 year later (since you have high triglycerides) and hopefully the triglycerides are normal. If its still trending zero, then there is a good low risk for next 10 years. Given that people are still screaming that we will die of high LDL, just do 1 CAC scan every 2 years would be good. I did mine 2 years apart with LDL 200-300+ over the years and the trend was flat, meaning now new plagues (score of 9, then 6). But if you really want to be sure that the high triglyceride is not giving soft plague, you could do a CT angiogram, its quite expensive, not sure if your insurance will cover it, but it will give you a good baseline assurance.

When we know nothing is going wrong with our health, we'll eat anything and everything we wanted. But once bodily health go south, and with blood tests report showing undesirable results, we'll generally change if we want to be healthy. I was over 100kg in 2020 and laid on the operating table 4 times in the same year! That changed me no one, that knows me, can imagine. Weight dropped to 78kg from extreme diet (boiled veg and fish only) plus daily exercise. Yes, weight gone but I was so haggard with loose skin. Got into Carnivore diet (for me only beef) with scepticism to increase muscle mass without putting on body fat. Has been 22 months since I started such diet and I have never felt so good in my life. Blood test result was on point except higher LDL which Dr. is concerned but not me. Don't wanna go deep into LDL topic but what I can say is LDL is good for my body. My body weight has increased to 83kg and has stabilised for the past 12 months regardless how much I ate (carnivore meals). Physically very much stronger than 22 months ago and looks better than my army days! It's gonna be the way I eat for the rest of my life... Hi Gregory, I am surprised that you are talking about carnivore and keto. I have watched your videos years ago and RU-vid has recommended your diet videos recently. I have been on Carnivore for two years and i took a break for a year due to high stress during the pandemic but I have come back to following an animal-based diet for 9 months atm where fruits and honey are used as a carb source.. In my experience on animal-based, fruits, milk and honey does not affect me like sugar and vegetable do you might want to take into consideration and watch paul saladino on his transition and give it a try if you deemed necessary. I am glad your health has improved on just a hybrid keto and carnivore approach and wish you the best of health. It is true that being carnivore in Singapore is actually not that difficult just more expensive if you eat out as you can find roast pork stalls virtually anywhere. But finding the correct online grocers will save you significant amounts of money if you are willing to cook for yourself.

Greg I have been following your health journey for a while. Firstly I would like to applaud your commitment and effort in improving your health, and it’s amazing you manage to reverse your high glucose level / diabetes diagnosis with diet alone. And your cholesterol level although it has come down a bit it is still actually extremely high. Calcium scoring is unfortunately not the most accurate test in your situation. With your current cholesterol (total and LDL) level, it actually significantly increases your risk of heart disease regardless of what the calcium score show and irrespective of your triglyceride level. Can consider talking to a Lipid specialist / Cardiologist to discuss about this results if you are in any doubt at all and can discuss about what you read about Carnivore diet with them too. I understand that Keto / extremely low carb diet does help with managing your glucose level with evidence showing that, but unfortunately carnivore diet / high saturated fat diet do increase your lipid levels as shown in many large scale studies, thus increasing your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Greg, have you considered consuming more fish (or fish oil) to lower your Trig:HDL ratio? Fermented foods, for example kefir, are also worth investigating. (BTW, while it's sensible to be wary of hidden carbs, I'm not sure that those from vegetables/cheese are culprits.) I think your channel's proposed new direction (healthful hawker recommendtions that don't avoid animal fats or are even keto-friendly) is sorely needed in the Singapore landscape, even as your regular/previous hawker food reviews were already in their own league in terms of refreshing perceptiveness.
@GregoryLeow
@GregoryLeow 2 месяца назад
I do actively eat fish once a week but I avoid fish oil because I’ve read reports about how oxidised it can get once it’s extracted. Yes, my family eat fermented foods quite regularly - kefir, kimchi, yogurt and so on. Regarding carbs in vegetables and cheeses, some people do have problems with them. They go keto and they lose some weight and then stall when it comes to weight loss and general health markers. Then they find out that it’s due to an overconsumption of starchy vegetables and high carb cheeses, and not focusing on fresh meat, that is their problem
@ryang628
@ryang628 2 месяца назад
@@GregoryLeow Oh, I don't even think of starchy/root vegetables as vegetables; I guess I'm thinking that if one is at the stage where they think they are needing to count carbs in their vegs/cheese in order to maintain their keto-ness, then the bottleneck is quite likely elsewhere, that is, there are likely more effective modifications they can start making elsewhere (for example, fermented foods, a bit more sun exposure, etc.) than counting _those_ carbs (as opposed to the genuine hidden carbs that fly under most people's radars). Regarding the fish oil (which I mentioned only as the immediate thing that came to mind regarding lowering your Trig:HDL, which as you know is the most important metric in the entire cholesterol panel, for so strongly correlating with the size & density of your lipoproteins): if supplementing, definitely molecularly distilled (removes mercury) and encapsulated (airtight, so subsequent oxidation is negligible if regularly restocked and consumed soon after purchase instead of only at the end of its official expiry) and always stored in the fridge once its seal is broken (even though the manufacturer doesn't explicitly give this advice). Regarding kefir: just to point out that "KEFIR & robust KEFIR GRAINS" on Carousell is really good stuff (not all kefir grains are equally biodiverse, and certainly supermarket kefir is bogus, contains less than a fifth of the strains of probiotics in genuine kefir, and is by design never actually cultured from kefir grains). Thanks again, Greg! Was wanting to revisit old airport road after watching your parts 1 and 2 last night, but alas it is currently renovating till Sept.
@makoshark533
@makoshark533 7 месяцев назад
It's right to reduce carbs (especially processed carbs) but your high triglycerides is probably due to the high saturated fats you are taking in. In addition, you high animal related food is impacting your gut microbiome. Do increase your inputs of high fibre food (soluble and insoluble) and your HBA1C and triglycerides will improve significantly. Also practice some intermittent fasting so that insulin produced by your body is less frequent. Best of luck with your health journey.

In a study of 1346 Japanese patients with diagnostic criteria of NAFLD, the cutoff value of ALT for diagnosis of the Fatty Liver disease was estimated to be 25 U/L in men. Hey Greg, Great video again. I have been on a similar diet since circuit breaker, and have been successful in maintaining my weight and health. Here are some of my views/suggestions on your situation (purely for reference only, I am not a health expert) 1. Yes, anything above 50g of carbs is a dangerous limit if you want to stay in Ketosis, especially when you are on a high protein and fat diet... If you are out of ketosis, there is a chance you may be storing those consumed fats in your body instead of burning them, and you will have to go hungry for a while before your body start switching over to burn these stored fats for energy. I feel that you can still have a cheat day once in a while, but you may need to find a sure fire way for you to get back into ketosis again within 1-2 days, like using a egg fast/fat fast or intermittent fasting. 2. Some food which seems like protein/ fat rich foods has very high hidden sugar content. Bak Kwa is a perfect example. I only got to know the crazy amount of sugar you have to put in Bak Kwa after I tried making some on my own... (its basically candied pork) 3. Low carb reviews sounds like a great idea! Given that there is a heighten awareness in Singapore on low carb diet, and I think you will have more viewers! Might be great if you can make a video sharing some low carb recipes or tricks, like swapping out the noodles with konjac noodles from your favourite hawker dish (lor mee/beef noodles etc... ) Hope the above helps, I look forward to seeing more great contents from you!

Keto diets are not a good food channels and more than often not cost effective with hawker food. And food must come with different combinations to taste good, especially carb + proteins combined to give the well rounded taste. As time goes by, dieters end up tasting nothing with meat food, your interest will lost over time to even bother to eat out, just cook at home since all taste will be monotonous in the long run.
@GregoryLeow
@GregoryLeow 7 месяцев назад
Hi, personally the idea that you need alot of variety in food is a bit of an outdated thinking. It seems that if your body is nutritionally satiated, it has less craving for variety. And there have been hundreds of testimonials of low carb dieters who have felt this way. I still continue to eat out for social reasons but also have introduced more home cooking into my life. Both can coexist, imho
@JS-ev4xc
@JS-ev4xc 7 месяцев назад
@@GregoryLeow I am not referring to what is needed but merely saying what would not be a good tasty food RU-vid channel. It is good to eat healthy but the food you are introducing will be unpopular for the mass, it will be niche. I was on keto too so I know in the long run meat will taste tasteless.

Hi Greg, just sharing my experience with you. My triglyceride reached 6.6 mmol/L after 3 months of carnivore, high fat, close to zero carbs diet, from 2.1 mmol/L a year prior. I adjusted the diet, cutting down the fat/butter and actually added back some carbs, my triglyceride gone down back to 2.0 mmol/L after 6 months. I am not selling truth here, just a n of 1 experience. I have looked at the recent LMHR study. I suspect the triglyceride data might be doctored and filtered.....

I don't think it is right for you to make that statement that you suspect the TyG data might be doctored without proof. Everyone body reacts differently to different macronutrients, although I am not on a carnivore diet but my protein intake is usually around 30 pct my TyG is only 0.63 mmol/L last test. Before when I was on Myhealthy plate type it was much higher.
