@@candicehawkins2676 I guess my values are way different than yours. I don’t care if they are out on pasture for 12 months, they still need to be checked better. They may be dumb animals but they hurt and feel pain like us humans. By the way, I would appreciate if you’d let me know what facts you reference which are relative to the humane treatment of animals. Thank you very much.
That was a lot of disconnected frog harboring bacteria and dirt to come off. I hope the area can now dry and maybe a topical medicine is in order for the frog due to the level of moisture and how ill it looked. Hoping for a speedy recovery. For those not in the know - the frog should not look like that nor have the hole for debris and moisture to build up in and a healthy frog is the same color and consistency from the heel to the "v" in the center of the hoof. The frog has a blood supply that runs to it and is attached to the horse and for a normal trim I may cut the edges back a slight bit to ensure I can pick into the crevices on either side of the frog well so no debris builds up in them. . . . .it should never be falling off.
I had a gelding many years ago. On one hoof, he had no frog at all. I don’t know why, he was an old man when I got him. That entire leg was stiff. It didn’t bend at the hock at all.
Rubber shoes are not suitable for every horse and are not the solution for every situation. Metal shoes still have a place when support is needed for the hoof wall and to take pressure off certain areas of the hoof. Certain events also only use metal shoes. Rubber shoes are great for horses who need shoes, but for people who would prefer to not have to shoe their horse. People have also chosen to keep horses barefoot in pasture and then put on boots for riding and working times where the boots have different treads and cleats in the bottoms for different terrains and many boots come with adjustable options for the amount of cushion in the boots as well. There are many options available for how each person and horse team works together and the level of interaction, the activity, and most importantly the needs of the horse.
I don’t think these people know what they’re doing at all!! I’ve watched a few of their videos and I’m convinced they aren’t doing what’s best for these animals. This is clearly just to make money on videos. I feel so sorry for these animals.
